Does anyone know what he's babbling about?
Edit: I think I understand a bit what he's talking about. He says that the United States (the government) is secular but America (the nation) is Christian. Just one problem. Before the Constitution there was no America. America was an idea in the heads of the same guys who wrote the Constitution. The rest of the country didn't think they were a country, they saw themselves as Georgians or Virginians or Pennsylvanians. It took the formation of the United States to create the national identity of America, an identity that is open to everyone disregard of religion, race, and gender. America is the creation of Americans.

"Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ the King."
Howdy, in the name of Jesus Christ the Farce.
"I have been given some material by a man who wants to convince me that the United States government is founded upon the Christian Religion."
I'm sorry. You should give that material back and inform that man that he is mistaken.
"One of the papers he gave me is titled: 'America founded by Christians?? You bet it was!!'"
Uh, no. You need to check your facts. The United States of America was founded by persons some of whom were Christians, but many were deists, atheists and other non-Christians.
"Let me clarify this title. America is not the United States. America is a creation of YHWH, God."
Uh, no, again. America, as in the continents bearing the name "America," are the result of continental drift.
"The United States as we know it today is a creation of a few clever men who wrote the Constitution of the United States."
At least we agree upon that.
"There is a difference between America, God's creation; and the United States, man's creation."
Indeed. The United States of America is real, "America, God's creation" is all in your tiny mind.
"You cannot link America with the United States."
Uh, yes, yes we can. We've been doing that since the revolution.
"America belongs to God; the United States belongs to a few clever men."
Caleb, wake up. Come on, wake up. You're having a bad dream. Now get dressed and go to school.

I have been given some material by a man who wants to convince me that the United States government is founded upon the Christian Religion.
>> And I would urge you to do just a little research on a document called the "Treaty of Tripoli".
"America founded by Christians?? You bet it was!!"
>> FAIL. The founding fathers were deists, which was a lot different than being a Christian.
America is not the United States.
>> ANOTHER FAIL. If you are abroad and you hear people talking about Americans, you can pretty much count on they weren't referring to Venezuelans or Canadians, which these two countries ARE in the Americas, but it's not the part of the Americas they were referring to. Say America and 90% of the time or better the were talking about the United States.

Allegory for Jesus
Well...at least he doesn't believe in the "Christian nation!!1!1" crap. I think. If he is trying to distinguish between America as a continent (or, rather, two continents that are rarely ever referred to collectively as simply "America", but whatever) and as a country. Otherwise...I have no f$%#ing idea what he is trying to say.

I guess he means America as a physical land.
"You cannot link America with the United States."
It is linked with the word of, like the United States of America.

There is no country called "America" - in fact some people in other parts of the hemisphere get a bit annoyed when the US is referred to simply as "America". It's like if France suddenly started calling itself "Europe".

This sounds like some of those Tax Protestor arguments I hear from time to time. "The Federal government isn't the united States, it's the secret creation of a bunch of lawyers who want you to THINK it has power over the united States. You can tell this is true because they capitalize 'United States', proving it's a fictitious entity separate and distinct from the REAL united States. Therefore, you don't have to pay income tax."

@Morrigan: You know what, i'm already sick and tired of stupid people from the united states saying that America is just their country.
I'm really sick and tired of Canadians complaining that the citizens of the U.S. call themselves "Americans" as if it's an intentional slam on you guys. We call ourselves "American" because it's the most logical portion of the national name to use to identify us. We were the first of the European colonies to break away from the motherland and start our own country. At the time "United States of America" made sense. We were 13 individual, sovereign states that decided to unite as one nation. Thus, the United States. Since we were located on the continent of America, that was included. Thus, the United States of America.
Do you have a better idea of what you feel we should call ourselves? Please, nearly 300 million people are waiting with baited breath to hear a foreigner's opinion on what we should call our country after 233 years of sovereignty, compared to your 27.

United States of America. USA. And it was founded secular. Before it had the Constitution it had Puritans running it as a theocracy. Of course we can ignore the people who were killed off for being heathens and heretics though. According to you anyway
