I am a Jesus Freak so what surprises me even more is when Christian's don't read their Bibles at all. Scary movies are from hell, why a Christian would want to watch hell glorified is beyond me.. Now give me a good fighting action war movie without obscenities and I am there! I love the bloody battlefield movies, I don't know why.

Most the time Christianity loses in horror movies. In war movies he percieves the Americans as Christians who win most the time. Since he's specifying without obscenities (I suspect he means profanities) he's refering to older war movies where the Americans always win.
Because killing people's not obscene to him in any way.
Now give me a good fighting action war movie without obscenities and I am there! I love the bloody battlefield movies, I don't know why.
I always found it odd that it's okay to depict a man's leg being blown off but not the expletive he utters.
War is hell.
Your fighting action war movies, are glorifying hell.
War is nothing but obcenities;
Terrified civilians fleeing in every direction to escape the destruction that ravages the land and people indescriminately.
Mangled humans clutching their bleeding wounds to try to slow the gush of blood.
Fire and smoke and the stench of blood and vomit and shit, fills your senses.
I give you 30 seconds on a battlefield before you mess in your pants and run screaming.
So, why haven't you enlisted? Is it because the bloody battlefield scenes aren't so fun when it's you and your blood splattered?
Oh, that's not it, you say?
No, wait... wait... don't tell me! It's because the wounded soldiers on the battlefield scream too many obscenities for your delicate sensibilities, right?
This, ladies and gents, THIS is why the American MPAA/ESRB rating systems are so fucked up.
Blowing people's arms off is OK, but saying a naughty word isn't? OMFSM, you people were scary enough BEFORE you were conditioned to believe that violence is OK - even good - as long as you're on God's side. *shudders*
I can't help it, but I lolled at so much unknowing and probably unwanted honestness.
Well, it does explain why you like the old testament too :D
Blood for the blood god and all that, eh ?
I voted WTF and MEH because he's right -- if you really believed the Bible were hand-written by God, wouldn't every word be of utmost importance to you?
And then he just shows that weird, small little mind, and I click on the first button.
Yeah, let's glorify the obscenity of war and mass slaughter but for fuck's sake don't swear! Oh, and the inhuman horror of war is much, *much* more scary than any film.
Idiot.
"I love the bloody battlefield movies, I don't know why"
Because you are a psychopathic christian freak.
"I am a Jesus Freak so what surprises me even more is when Christian's don't read their Bibles at all."
I am not that surprised. I have seen a lot of evidence here that the christians in RR aren't that well aware of their own mythology.
"Scary movies are from hell, why a Christian would want to watch hell glorified is beyond me.. Now give me a good fighting action war movie without obscenities and I am there! I love the bloody battlefield movies, I don't know why."
Lad, try watching Hard Boiled. You should respect the work of John Woo.
I hate war movies without swearing of any kind. They just seem so unrealistic. I mean if you are being shot at and theirs bombs going off everywhere wouldn't you be swearing your face off? I know I would.
I find it funny how, blood and gore are all fine but if obscenities or profanity are uttered its a horrible movie. Same with violence over sex, its ridiculous.
I love the bloody battlefield movies, I don't know why.
Because you have never experienced a battlefield first hand. Otherwise, you wouldn't think it was so peachy.
"I am a Jesus Freak so what surprises me even more is when Christian's don't read their Bibles at all."
Surprises the hell out of me too. Though I find it quite amusing that I, an atheist, often knows their holy book better than they do.
"Scary movies are from hell, why a Christian would want to watch hell glorified is beyond me.."
I was wondering why such a sensible sounding person ended up on this site. And now I know.
"Now give me a good fighting action war movie without obscenities and I am there!"
Yes, lets glorify war--a real world event that happens all too often--and, if you'll pardon the pun, demonize horror flicks. That makes perfect sense.
"I love the bloody battlefield movies, I don't know why."
You've been reading too much Revelation would be my guess. Or the OT. Maybe both.
Just remember what Sheila Broflovski said:
"Horrific, deplorable violence is OK, as long as no one says any naughty words!"
Do you think they'll still be making war movies or, come to that, scary movies even, when the rapture happens? Or will humanity have been long extinct by then, so there'll be no need for a rapture in the first place?
I wonder if you know if the predicted persecution of the Rapture Ready site by the President of the USA, Barack Obama, has started yet?
When I saw the movie Saving Private Ryan in the theatre, I had an aisle seat. On the other side of the aisle, about two or three rows in front of me, there was a man, presumably at the time in his mid-to-late 70's, watching the opening sequence through his fingers.
One thing about horror movies that works to their credit, is that the depictions of fear and death are actually educational enough that they do not desensitize us to carnage resulting from senseless violence.
Only in recent years have war movies caught up with that lack of desensitivization (if that's a word).
You are simply a fundie freak.
Go find a burning bush and talk to it!
Better yet, take my memories from me of a bomb exploding in a city street and seeing two friends being shredded into strips of flesh and broken bone.
On reflection, you are worse than a freak. You are a disgusting ghoul, and no amount of Jesusing excuses that.
I love the bloody battlefield movies, I don't know why.
That is because you are member of a death and torture cult, you sick fuck!
Dude, horror movies are usually fairly conservative as far as morals go. Y'know, at least the slashers, what with the "you have sex, you die" thing and "the virgin survives." I mean, it should be right up the fundie alley.
You love war movies because they are deeply religious. You would not like the infantry itself, however. Guys were constantly saying, "Oh, fudge!" and "doo-doo!"
@ Xotan: I'm not sure what to say as there is nothing that would dispel such a horrific vision. I keep hoping as the days and years pass maybe the world will realize war and such do not solve anything. My hope is not so strong as I am 55 and war and violence seem to be a trait of the so called human race.
Iruntherace....you're a jackass. My father left a well known university(football scholarship) here in the U.S. to enlist in the USMC. He was sent to Korea after 6 weeks of basic. He later turned his back on OCS because he'd seen too much blood. Want to hear your father crying in his sleep every night and shouting "NO!NO!NO!?"
He never talked about his experience and he never touched a gun again. As for the movie "Saving Private Ryan" he would not see it. He told me his nightmares were enough but at least somebody will show the true nature of war: Not glorious. He died 3 years ago of a massive brain tumor but if you related what you typed in your post he would have blistered your ass. Talk to somebody that has seen the atrocities of conflict/war and they'll set you straight.
So what, exactly, is the difference between horror and "bloody battlefield movies"? They're both fiction. They're both (generally) full of violence. One just usually won't happen in real life while the other happens all the time. . . .
Several years ago I took a job working for an old farmer who was German.
After several months working together, we became freinds.
One day after all the work was done, he got drunk and started muttering in German.
I learned over the winter that he hated snow, And he had gotten that way from his experiences in russia between 1941 and 1944.
Old Heinrich told me a lot about those years, He had a lot to say, and I was the only one that he thought would listen.
Shitheads who love war need to be forced to listen to people like Heinrich.
"what surprises me even more is when Christian's don't read their Bibles at all"
So you're familiar with "2 Corinthians 10:2-4", "Romans 12:17-19" and "1 Peter 3:10-11" then?
"give me a good fighting action war movie"
Apparently not.
why a Christian would want to watch hell glorified is beyond me.
According to St Thomas Aquinas the blessed often walk over to the battlements of heaven to look down and enjoy viewing the justice of God being executed in hell.
" I don't know why. "
Really?
...REALLY?
So killing, senseless torture and human suffering are alright, but if someone takes their clothes off, that's ungodly, right?
I thought so. You're a moron.
War is very much "hell" for innocents caught up in it, in fact it's hell for many soldiers too, when they finally realise what they are signed up to do.
War is hell on Earth, if you were in a war, you'd know. War is evil.
(I know, I've never been in a war but I can only imagine and all the war history I've read...)
Edit: Oh god I sounded corny...
My point was, all those depictions of hell you hate yet you love movies with people getting blown up on a battlefield amongst junk and smoke, women being raped and kids dying in villages, and you think that is not horror?
The funny thing about the conservative Christian dislike of horror is that the genre often backs up their worldview. The unknown and the different or strange are coded as threatening and evil; weird foreign religions often are as well; sexuality, especially female sexuality, tends to be portrayed as gross and scary; the authorities and symbols of Christianity are often portrayed as having power against evil; rationalism, science, and the spirit of curiosity and exploration get portrayed as foolish, ineffectual, or even sometimes actively malicious and harmful.
And, to be clear, I say this as someone who loves horror movies.
I am a Jesus Freak
Translation: Complete idiocy to follow.
what surprises me even more is when Christian's don't read their Bibles at all.
It really shouldn't surprise you. If you'd read the bible, you wouldn't be a Christian.
Scary movies are from hell, why a Christian would want to watch hell glorified is beyond me.
As I said, complete idiocy.
Prove to me biblically that horror movies are from hell. I'll grant you that the nudity that generally is contained in them goes against your values. I'll grant you that they often contain elements of devil worship/demons. But it's fiction, and never tries to be anything else. Please explain to me how something that is admittedly complete fiction could be from hell?
I love the bloody battlefield movies, I don't know why.
You're like your god, in that. Only he prefers the real thing.
[Scary movies are from hell, ]
Yes, and where is "Thou shalt not watch House on Haunted Hill" found in the bible?
[Now give me a good fighting action war movie without obscenities and I am there! I love the bloody battlefield movies, I don't know why.]
Yes, you can't watch "My Bloody Valintine" or "Saw" because of the gore but it's okay to watch "Saving Private Ryan". Even though army movies have the exact same amount of gore and violence but without vampires (or some kind of monster), cursing, and nudity.
Not much fun when you can't see the enemy (like in psychological thrillers), is it?
War ain't glorious - it's full of dirt and dust, flesh and bone, and adrenaline and power-thirst. It's full of the ghosts and blood of innocents who got caught in the crossfire. It's a filthy job to fight in war, but at least there used to be some sense of honor about enlisting, however biased that was based on propaganda; now, I have a hard time seeing the honor and glory of signing up to essentially be a live piece of cannon fodder.
"Now give me a good fighting action war movie without obscenities and I am there!"
this perfectly sums up Christians.
violence, torture, rape, murder, things like that are all perfectly fine.
but god forbid people should be exposed to horrible, evil things, like words or consenting adults giving and receiving pleasure.
@MPW: There was actually a lecture at my school last week that compared horror tropes to Orientalist tropes. I really should have gone to it.
If only because the title was Zombie Orientals Ate My Brain.
"I am a Jesus Freak so what surprises me even more is when Christian's don't read their Bibles at all."
Be thankful that they don't. Nothing creates an Atheist faster and more effectively than reading the bible.
Confused?
