I agree with Geoff Rogers on one point only. He says "our laws should be based on observable reality". So take your blinkers off, Mr Rogers.
Yes, observable reality, like the knowledge that activity X will directly harm person or persons Y.
The evidence for the existence of God can be clearly seen in the wonders of the universe...
No, that's evidence that the universe is a complex and awe-inspiring place. Not that Goddidit.
...and therefore God warns us in Romans 1 that nobody will be without excuse on judgement day.
Like, say, why he sent a bunch of lunatics to screech about what he does and sdoes not like or want instead of parting the clouds, and going "Hey! Knock it off!" If we offend God so grievously, why does he not do something about it. Personally. Directly. No fires in a fire riddled portion of California to warn the gays. no hurricanes in a place prone to hurricanes to warn the partyers...
People choose to ignore the evidence so they can do what they like, foolishly thinking they are not answerable to anyone.
Of course I'm answerable to someone. The law. The government. Those I love. And most importantly, myself, and my conscience.
Take God out of the equation and we can legalise anything. All kinds of evil can be justified.
Evil like having the audacity to love someone of the same gender, or allowing a woman to decide what's going to reside in and feed off her body...?
You mockingly talk about faith in God, Mr Rogers, but let me tell you it takes more faith to believe we descended from monkeys (where did they come from by the way?) or that we and the whole universe resulted from a giant explosion out of nothing. Come on! Get real.
First, apes, not monkeys, you moron. There is a difference. Second, dunno, but I bet a little time on Google would answer that...but real answers would get in the way of your righteous indignation, wouldn't it?
The euthanasia lobby is loud and forceful with regular letters on these pages trying to deceive us. The pain factor is not the issue at all, it's about usurping God's power and control over us.
Yeah, we don't care the Aunt Tessie's every moment alive is unmitigated agony, we just want to have the right to decide when she dies to give God a big screw you. You got us. Ass.
Did we have a say in our birth? Why then should we have a say in our death?
Perhaps not, but something tells me if your body was riddled with tumors, and the mere act of existing caused you unrelenting pain, you'd be begging for anyone to let you go. And what about the people who are all but bead, kept alive by machines? You have the nerve to accuse us of playing God, when these people, who should not even be alive are kept in a suspended state, trapped in their own body, unable to experience life AT ALL?
Nobody has mentioned near-death experiences yet. How do you explain them, Mr Rogers?
Personally, I believe in the soul, but I also know that trauma makes the mind do some funny, funny things, too.
When describe their soul/spirit leaving the body and can accurately report back all that was going on and said while clinically dead?
Good guesswork, the doctors unwittingly filling in details, perhaps there was flickers of consciousness in there as well. There are a number of things that can happen.
What about those who see Angels and meet Jesus in heaven?
Your mind is reeling. It's not a surprise that it rests on something that will sooth itself before it shuts down.
Some I know have even seen hell. They come back changed people with a different view on life after death and the reality of Jesus Christ.
And ten bucks says an easy half of them are liars preying on a gullible fool. The other half likely saw the path their life was on, and, when faced with their own mortality, opted to change it. Whether it was actual "hell" or their own subconscious giving them a wakeup call cannot be implicitly clear.
And just how do yo know so many dying people anyways?
