I do not understand how people CANNOT believe in God. There seems to be an overwhelming amount of evidence. The Bible is not only just a religious book that forms the basis of the entire Christian religion, it is also a book of HISTORY. Denying there is a God is like denying the Holocaust ever happened.

The bible has in it equal parts fact, history, and cheesecake

"I do not understand how people CANNOT believe in God."

Well then, I dare say there are probably a huge number of things you don't understand.

Let's start with the fact that there is no credible evidence that God DOES exist.

"There seems to be an overwhelming amount of evidence."

But no credible evidence. No reproducable test results showing God exists. No evidence which cannot be explained by a natural cause.

"The Bible is not only just a religious book that forms the basis of the entire Christian religion, it is also a book of HISTORY."

Many of the Bible's historical accounts turn out to be wrong and others are of ridiculous scope and unverifiable.

"Denying there is a God is like denying the Holocaust ever happened."

There is plenty of concrete evidence that the holocaust happened. No one iota of real evidence that your God exists.

"Denying there is a God is like denying the Holocaust ever happened."

The Holocaust has millions of known witnesses and plenty of physical evidence.

Your God has a book of compiled stories, we don't even know for sure who wrote them and there's zero physical evidence.

But the bible only works as proof if you believe in it first. If you don't believe it's anything other than the ancient book of superstition that it is, then there's not much to make you literally believe what's written in it.

I do not understand how people CANNOT believe in evolution. There seems to be an overwhelming amount of evidence. Evolution is not just a scientific theory that forms the basis of the entire field of biology, it is also a theory of OUR ORIGINS. Denying evolution is like denying the Holocaust ever happened.

Far to easy (although I would have liked to leave that last part out...)

I do not understand how people CANNOT believe in God.

I do not understand how people CANNOT believe in Allah, or Vishnu, or Odin, or Zeus, etc.

There seems to be an overwhelming amount of evidence.

Swing and a miss!

The Bible is not only just a religious book that forms the basis of the entire Christian religion...

He makes contact...

...it is also a book of HISTORY.

But it's foul.

Denying there is a God is like denying the Holocaust ever happened.

Strike three, you're out! Thanks for playing.

I can find outside corroboration that the holocaust happened (Germans are notoriously efficient at record keeping not to mention the witness accounts, the documentation, camps designed to kill and destroy large amounts of bodies)

Not so the Bible. At best it references a few places and events that were commonly known in the day. But no outside proof that the supernatural events occurred and we still can't really be sure anybody named "jesus" existed much less performed miracles.

Oh and big Godwin fail for not only presuming all religion is Christian but painting atheists as holocaust deniers.

... If the only "evidence" for the Holocaust came from anonymously-authored documents of unknown provenance that contradicted one another, and asserted miraculous origins and abilities for many of the main characters.

It's true. They really don't understand how we can't believe in God. I guess actually believing that we don't believe is an improvement over denying that atheism even exists. You know, we secretly believe in God and all that...

Well, you've got a point, there. There's absolutely nothing precluding anyone from believing in whatever god(s) they want, which is what your use of 'CANNOT' states.

Corrected to say 'can not', as I'm sure your short-circuited little brain meant, but couldn't quite grasp: It's incredibly easy in the face of a total lack of verifiable evidence and utterly contradictory nature of the text in question.

See? Simple.

Another pathetic asshole that insists on trying to justify his lame attempt at logic on the pain and suffering of millions of human beings. My hatred for this type of religious nut case goes beyond what mere words could ever describe.

There seems to be an overwhelming amount of evidence.

The sort of evidence that's admissible in a court of law?

Nope.

It's very easy to believe in a god when you already believe in it. All you have to do is have loose standards of evidence when you want something to support your beliefs, and have extremely stringent standards when something contradicts your beliefs. Then just keep reinforcing your beliefs by surrounding yourself with like-minded people.

The "evidence" is underwhelming, especially when you consider the existence of numerous other holy books that also form the basis of religions and contain elements (emphasis on elements) of history.

Well, since you put it like that, I do believe in God just because of the amount of corpses he's left behind.

Not what you wanted?

If you require evidence then your faith is weak. You must believe despite any evidence to the contrary. You must be completely taken in by the whole thing. The dafter and odder the beliefs the stronger your faith must be in them. Not only that, you must strongly identify with the people around you who share your religion, you must be comforted by their presense and shared beliefs. Even if you are a gullible and unprepossessing numbskull, you will be made to feel morally superior to the folk not of your village or tribe. You must be superstitious and illogical and become an interferring busybody. You'll learn how to be a hypocrite, a bigot, a liar, a misogynist, and possibly a racist along the way. You'll also know the importance of having an extreme right-wing outlook.

If you can master all those, to start with, you're on your way, and it's easy to believe in God.
