There's always been some to whom human life is not precious. But that's got no actual relation to abortion, because that's not taking a human life.
Once they are "babes" (and why you ninnies choose to cling to silly antiquated language, I do not know) it's illegal to have an abortion unless there is some extreme circumstance such as catastrophic handicap or the mother's life is in danger. Unlike some of you Christians, we liberals ALSO value the mother. I realize it's a difficult concept.
Furthermore, you ARE allowed to discipline your child. You are even allowed to spank your child. Sadly, us bastardly liberals won't let you ABUSE your child any more. And why, exactly, are you so upset about not being able to abuse them after birth when you're so hell bent on stopping abortion? Before they're born, it's a horrid sin and a crime, but after they're born, it's practically wrong NOT to beat the hell out of them. I don't get it.

Abortion has always existed. Yes, even before coat hangers. Women (or more often their fathers and husbands) used natural poisons to induce a miscarriage.
Abortion is not a *GOOD* thing. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone who says so. But it is sometimes the best option for a woman who finds herself in a difficult situation. The vast majority of women who elect for abortion struggle with their decision and, though they may come to terms with it, they are not proud.

What's surprising about this?! The ROI was paltry and the EBIT from sales was terribly poor. From a market-positioning viewpoint, it made no sense to continue with this under-performing brand. Levitt & Dubner point out that 1991 is the year the first legally aborted babies would have turned 16 and suggest that the drop might be due to fewer unwanted babies being born to unfit and underage parents.
If Christian fundies were that worried about abortion, they'd be calling for more sex education and birth control. That would eliminate more abortions than all the whining and shooting abortion doctors ever accomplished. But no, they're against that, too. What they really hate is pre-marital sex without consequences. They view unwanted babies as a deterrent and a punishment for having sex. They don't really give a flying f--- about the babies themselves. That's why they don't lift a finger to help after the birth. They want the moms to grovel in their "sin".

I can tell you that abortion has been legal and publicly funded part of UHC since the 1960's in my homecountry and the number of citizens killed is less then 1/200th per capita of the number of murders in USA.

A fetus is not a human life, especially early on when it doesn't even have neurons yet. I'll ask my favorite question which I have yet to receive an answer to from any fundie: why is it okay to kill millions of sperm and eggs by masturbating, being celibate or even having sex (because only one sperm causes pregnancy, the rest die) and it's okay to kill eggs by being celibate or simply not having sex during every ovulation yet, it's not okay to kill them once they've joined together?
