[In response to: American Muslims Ask, Will We Ever Belong? ]
If they want to blend in and not impose their religion on everybody else, then yes, maybe they can belong. But Muslims are not willing to do that.

Well, that explains the hostility in Tennessee, where Muslims wanted a mosque in which to blend in and not impose their religion on everybody else, and their reward was hate speech.

If they want to blend in and not impose their religion on everybody else, then yes, maybe they can belong. But Fundies are not willing to do that.
Andrew: hate to disagree, but...
no, actually, I have no reason to hesitate in disagreeing with you. I have never had a Muslim in America try to push their faith on me, ever in my life.
Aside from the hilarious hypocrisy, the first statement isn't all that fundie. In fact, I agree with that statement; if people want to peacefully coexist with everyone else they shouldn't push their religion on others. And while the second statement is a bit more fundie (being an ignorant sweeping generalization), this is something even some moderates ignorantly think. So this quote gets a meh from me.
As long as morons like you continue to refuse to accept people with different beliefs, such as Muslims, then of course they will never be able to fit in/blend in. I'm sure they would be happy for others to leave them alone about their beliefs and allow them to carry on with their lives.
"We're not asking to come in, we're giving you 10 minutes to get out."
Oh wait, that punchline is about Christian terrorists!

There's another group like that. What were they called again? Damn, it's right on the tip of my tongue...
Andrew and Kat S.-
I have never had a Muslim tell me about their religion unsolicited, much less try to beat me upside the head with it like Christians do very often. Most Muslims here in the US are trying to blend in and assimilate, and they usually don't go around trying to make every single person they meet Muslim. Christians, on the other hand... well, the quotes on this site speak for themselves.
So when will conservative Christians stop imposing their religion on everyone else? Oh, I keep forgetting, the Founders WANTED it that way (cause you know exactly what they would want, am I right?)
I hate hypocrisy. Nothing pisses me off more.
I can't speak for America because I've never been there, but here in South Africa we have a very substantial Muslim population. And in all the decades that I have lived here not once has one attempted to "impose" Islam on me in any form whatsoever.
I'm willing to wager that the same would be true in the USA.
Dear American Muslims: You do belong. If it were up to me, the fundies would all be on some distant lump of land far out to sea, and the rest of us could turn this country into something so much better than it is.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
