Quote# 77576

We have feminized the Medal of Honor.

According to Bill McGurn of the Wall Street Journal, every Medal of Honor awarded during these two conflicts has been awarded for saving life. Not one has been awarded for inflicting casualties on the enemy. Not one.

Gen. George Patton once famously said, "The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other guy die for his."

When we think of heroism in battle, we used the think of our boys storming the beaches of Normandy under withering fire, climbing the cliffs of Pointe do Hoc while enemy soldiers fired straight down on them, and tossing grenades into pill boxes to take out gun emplacements.

That kind of heroism has apparently become passe when it comes to awarding the Medal of Honor. We now award it only for preventing casualties, not for inflicting them.

So the question is this: when are we going to start awarding the Medal of Honor once again for soldiers who kill people and break things so our families can sleep safely at night?

I would suggest our culture has become so feminized that we have become squeamish at the thought of the valor that is expressed in killing enemy soldiers through acts of bravery. We know instinctively that we should honor courage, but shy away from honoring courage if it results in the taking of life rather than in just the saving of life. So we find it safe to honor those who throw themselves on a grenade to save their buddies.

Jesus, in words often cited in ceremonies such as the one which will take place this afternoon, said, “Greater love has no one than this, that someone lays down his life for his friends” (John 15:13). So it is entirely right that we honor this kind of bravery and self-sacrifice, which is surely an imitation of the Lord of Lord and King of Kings.

However, Jesus’ act of self-sacrifice would ultimately have been meaningless - yes, meaningless - if he had not inflicted a mortal wound on the enemy while giving up his own life.

Okay, this MUST be a troll. Merely killing is not heroic. The point is that you are killing for a CAUSE, in DEFENSE of something, and not just to kill. The Medal of Honor doesn't go to the guy who wipes out an entire enemy platoon for no reason.

WHAT IS YOUR MAJOR MALFUNCTION, BRYAN? THERE ARE FEMALES IN THE MILITARY THAT COULD KICK THE LIVING SHIT OUT OF YOU WITHOUT BREAKING A SWEAT, YOU PUTTY-FACED MORON! ... AND THEY WOULDN'T BE LOOKING FOR A MEDAL, THEY'D JUST KICK YOUR ASS BECAUSE IT NEEDS DOING! PUT YOU IN ONE OF THOSE SITUATIONS AND YOU WOULD DISTINGUISH YOURSELF BY THE PISS RUNNING DOWN YOUR PANT LEG, WOULDN'T YOU MOMMA'S BOY?

IF YOU SEE ONE OF THOSE MEDALS OF HONOR WALKING TOWARD YOU, YOU WILL SNAP TO, AND PLACE YOUR RIGHT HAND OVER YOUR HEART IN THE CIVILIAN SALUTE OR I WILL PERSONALLY FIND YOU, CUT OUT YOUR LEFT EYE, AND SKULL FUCK YOU! DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?

General George Patton also said, though I must paraphrase because I don't have the book in front of me:

"There's no reason to rough them [prisoners} up. If we give them a hot meal? They'll give us Hitler's address. If we give them a cold beer? They'll introduce us to their sisters."

However, Jesus’ act of self-sacrifice would ultimately have been meaningless - yes, meaningless - if he had not inflicted a mortal wound on the enemy while giving up his own life.

What, hurting the Devil by protecting humanity?
Like the soldiers who hurt the enemy by protecting their comrades?

This sounds like it was written by a teenaged boy with developmental issues that jack up his testosterone levels. To "kill people and break things" has nothing to do with letting families sleep well at night.

Jesus, being god, knew he wasn't actually sacrificing shit since he pretty much pre-paid for his ascent to heaven.
Had he stormed the beach at Normandy, I would be much more impressed. He would have much bigger wounds to stick my hand in.

Let that sink in--the man who supports annihilating grizzly bears from the face of the earth, who voiced approval of fire departments letting peoples' homes burn to the ground, and who blames homosexuals for the rise of Adolf Hitler, has been given a public forum to air his views and a position of some importance. And Donald Wildman apparently approves.

A soldier's job is not simply to run around killing people.

A soldier's job is to defend his/her country. Period. That involves saving lives as much as it does taking them.

Nevermind that wars havent been fought WWII style in OVER FIFTY FUCKING YEARS! And even if they were, in Afghanistan and Iraq the battles are against pissed off residents many of whom don't even know why we are there, NOT a well funded government military with years of prepartation and vast resources to get pillboxes and the like built.

In short, you can't compare wars against nations to wars against insurgencies.

Ok Bryan here is the criteria of being awarded the Medal of Honor:

"[Conspicuous] gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his or her life above and beyond the call of duty while engaged in an action against any enemy of the United States; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; or while serving with friendly foreign forces engaged in an armed conflict against an opposing armed force in which the United States is not a belligerent party."

Now tell me Bryan, where does it mention anything about killing or incapacitating the enemy in numbers not seen outside of a Rambo movie?

Hopefully that should answer your concerns about the Medal of Honor being "feminized".

Spec. Monica Brown from the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, stands over Forward Operating Base Salerno in Khowst province, Afghanistan. Brown is the second woman since World War II to earn a Silver Star for gallantry in combat.

Sgt. Leigh Ann Hester of the 617th Military Police Company, a National Guard unit out of Richmond, Ky., received the Silver Star.
Hester's squad was shadowing a supply convoy March 20 when anti-Iraqi fighters ambushed the convoy. The squad moved to the side of the road, flanking the insurgents and cutting off their escape route. Hester led her team through the "kill zone" and into a flanking position, where she assaulted a trench line with grenades and M203 grenade-launcher rounds. She and Nein, her squad leader, then cleared two trenches, at which time she killed three insurgents with her rifle.

Fucking christ, if you guys are going to be so military gun ho, would you atleast know what the medal you're bitching about is for?

MoH is awarded to enlisted persons who did something heroic in a deadly situation.

I'm sure you remember those snipers some decade or so ago that repelled from their helicopter and held off a rampaging mob from killing a downed helicopter crew? They didn't get that medal for killing, they got that medal for placing their lives in peril to save their fellow soldiers.

Hence the mother fucking reason why so many MoHs are presented to the soldier's next of kin for his/her gallantry.
