Thing is, Bryan, not only does the modern enemy not have pillboxes, it doesn't actually do us any good to kill them. Killing them is bad for us. It leads to more people who want to kill us. Killing guys not actively, right now attempting to kill you is a terrible, terrible idea, and the current enemy does not offer themselves up for the slaughtering.
So killing the enemy is not, currently, a heroic action unless you're, say, throwing yourself into the line of fire to snipe the guy about to blow away a platoon--in which case, we're back to saving lives. Dumbass.
What does he think 'medal for saving lives' even means? That it's necessarily non-military? Apparently he does think it's necessarily non-aggressive. How stupid is he?
No, I know: stupid enough to think that "soldiers who kill people and break things" is a positive description, and that it automatically does a lot to help our families "sleep safely at night."
Also, my first thought for the Jesus thing was that it was a really weird interpretation of the Harrowing of Hell (which is very possibly the coolest thing Jesus is ever supposed to have done, right up there with walking on water and bringing other kids back to life so they could attest he hadn't killed them)--but Bryan is pretty clearly non-Catholic, so that doesn't fly.
