Revenge is a Dish Best Served... Stupid?

Because protesting the funeral of children who did nothing wrong is the perfect solution here.

Quote# 77667

A controversial Kansas church is changing its protest plan after an incident in Oklahoma last week.

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church said they want revenge after someone slashed the tires on their van during visit to protest a military funeral in McAlester. The group said it plans to now target funerals for Oklahoma children.

The group said it planned to picket the funeral of an 8-year-old Burneyville girl who died in an accident at the Love County Fairgrounds last week, although no protesters were seen near the services. The group said it would be in Owasso on Thursday to protest the funeral of a girl who died in a car crash.

The Westboro Baptist Church's website now reads "God Hates Oklahoma" and "The Lord curses them by killing Oklahoma's children and casting them into hell. Thank God for more dead children in Oklahoma."

Considering the WBC now has a case before the Supreme Court, Snyder vs. Phelps, this new tactic seems guaranteed to make them fail as hard as possible. Then we can all celebrate.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/10/06/AR2010100602605.html <<

This.

How can they not understand that when the judge is considering if you are guilty, it is a very bad idea to do something even worse?

Also: I wonder a bit about Phelps' health. He's 81, and I thought that being angry all the time was bad for you.

I really...I don't know how I manage to still be amazed by the WBC. Even the KKK loathes them. And yet, here we are, coming together as an American society to shake our heads sadly at this latest shenanigan.

It's almost like Fred Phelps is some genius scapegoat martyr holding American society together.

One, I'm not saying they should burn the place down while someone's inside. But left without a proper place to congregate, they'll have a harder time organizing their pickets.

Two, they can't sue you if they don't know who you are.

Three, through actions like these, they have more or less rendered their rights as citizens, hell, as human beings null and void, as far as I'm concerned. Picketing a child's funeral? There's a certain point at which taking the moral high road just doesn't cut it.

Four, they are a paper tiger, and will likely fall apart at the first sign of real resistance. We've been far too nice to them. It's time they learned that this kind of behaviour is not acceptable. Remember:

"Members of the Westboro Baptist Church said they want revenge after someone slashed the tires on their van"

Here is a sign on a Unitarian Unversalist church:

Note it - nor any other UU church - has had it's windows broken.

Here is the word 'Hint':

Hint

Your call WBC, you inbred subhuman fundie filthbags. Oh, and speaking of revenge, you'd better cremate that inferior waste of oxygen Fred Phelps, if you know what's good for you. As there'll be a queue miles long, of people wanting to dance, spit, piss & shit on his grave - and I'll be tempted to dust off my passport & book a plane ticket to Kansas, when the glorious day comes that he's no longer infecting our sacred world with his subhuman presence.

He won't live forever, Shirley & co. Your days of 'protesting' funerals are numbered, and you know it. The glove will be on the other foot - and soon.

Revenge will be sweet indeed. But not fattening. X3

"Okay, they were horrifying enough before, but this constitutes a Moral Event Horizon. I now declare them to be Complete Monsters."

Oh, the place the eponymous experimental fold-drive ship went to (then came back from & ultimately returned to) known as the 'Chaos Dimension' in the film "Event Horizon" is a walk in the park, compared to that area of Topeka in Kansas.

Documentary maker Louis Theroux was one person who voluntarily entered that area, in his BBC TV production "The Most Hated Family in America":

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Most_Hated_Family_in_America

And I can only admire his bravery, fortitude and patience within that wretched hive of scum and villainy.

@Priestling

"I'm waiting for the day someone just snaps, and pulls a Rasputin death on every one of them. You know, shot, stabbed, beaten, set on fire, drowned. The works. They can't sue if they're all dead, right?"

And there won't be a jury in the land who'll convict them. Indeed, they'll be found innocent as what he/she did was considered an act of Justifiable Homicide, and even be praised by the judge for having the cojones in ridding the world of these subhumans.

@Raised By Horses

1.) You can never guarantee that, though. There's always inherent risk if you're going to do as you suggest. Even if it's empty, unless the church is alone on a barren hill, there's a chance of collateral damage, or injury to the firemen putting out the blaze.

2.) Assuming one does not get caught.

3.) Yes, I wholeheartedly agree they are repulsive and loathesome to the point of being beyond any insult I can imagine. However, acting against them merely makes them louder.

4.) Except as they have proven, they do not fold. They just get louder, more obnoxious and more repugnant. If they do this after their tires got slashed, what do you think they'd picket if their church burnt down?

I confess, maybe it's easy for me to say this when it's not my child's funeral they're picketing. Maybe it's easy for me to say this in a country where they're denied entry. Maybe I'm entirely too passive, but frankly, I do not see these trolls worth the effort of endangering lives, property or personal freedom to act against in the manner you suggest. They are vile, repulsive and I am confident that when Freddie kicks it, they will get their desserts, both when the inevitable protest for HIS funeral kicks off, and when they realize how marginalized they are by society as a whole.

Hoo boy...I was always dismissing WBC as crazies, but this is a step up. I no longer hope reasonable people will protest his funeral; I hope they'll throw a party! If I've got my life right enough, I'll happily go to his funeral/party, and laugh as the WBC people attempt to stop it.

I took a look at the pdf file that an earlier poster linked to. (Too tired to check - try page 3). There on their poster is picture, I'd like to post it as RaisedByHorses did, but can't see how, so here's the url:
http://i447.photobucket.com/albums/qq194/deeplyblue42/th_Mania.jpg?t=1291179175

It shows a car with a slashed tire and 2 arrows pointing to a churchyard full of gravestones as a consequence.

"You touch my property and God will kill your children."

This puts WBC one up on Moses plus the entire collection of the Children of Israel - God only killed the firstborn of Egypt as a last throw of the dice to get an entire nation free of slavery.

The IRS had better not send any tax demands to WBC, or the entirety of Washington will be destroyed by a freak hurricane.

You watch Fred Phelps and you start to see how the Caligulas of this world develop. You go over the top on one issue, and discover how heady is the power of irrationality. First anyone who disagrees with you on that matter is not only wrong, but headed for eternal torment. Then anyone who agrees with you on any matter is similarly doomed. Then anyone who annoys you and finally anyone you just feel a bit cross with is going to be smitten by thunderbolts.

I suspect that the man is clinically insane by now, and dragging his family down into madness with him (think Jonestown).

Fortunately, at the moment, Fred Phelps and his brood are only distressing and harassing grieving families. That's bad, but it could be a whole lot worse.

Let's hope they never get hold of tactical nukes, and that whoever has his finger on the button in North Korea never becomes as mad as Fred Phelps.

I'd laugh and be happy about it, except for the fact that two little girls still died and, maybe even worse, their families have to go on with that kind of blind hate.

Though on the bright side, this will make people hate them even more.

Eventually, some grieving parent is going to go full-bore loonytunes and drive a cargo van loaded with barrels of ANFO and ball bearings through the wall of the WBC some Sunday morning.

@Giveitaday

Members of the Westboro Baptist Church said they want revenge after someone slashed the tires on their van during visit to protest a military funeral in McAlester. The group said it plans to now target funerals for Oklahoma children.

"Hopefully this will backfire and blow up in their faces."

Oh it will do, no doubt about it, my good sir; as surely as day follows night. After all...

Remember how Joseph McCarthy's anti-Communist 'crusade' (read: paranoia) ultimately blew up in his face, when he turned his insane witchhunt attentions towards the US military.

It's going to happen to ol' Freddy-boy (if not Shirley, once that subhuman filthbag carks it) & the rest of those inferior inbred ignoramuses one of these days, you mark my words. As with McCarthy, Faggard et al...:

I love the smell of Hubris in the morning. Smells like... victory.

(*Sings*):

'Instant Karma's gonna get you...!'

In fact, I for one encourage the WBC to make good their latest threat. All they'll do is exhibit how unimaginably low they're prepared to go, in the cause of their attention whoring. Therefore displaying the more than infinite evil of their way of thinking. And the media coverage of their vile activities will create such a massive public backlash, that those in Congress/HoR will have no choice but take notice, and finally bring out a law that'll make everything the WBC say, do and think illegal. Rights (such as the 1st Amendment) have no right to be abused - least of all when such are used the way they are by the WBC.

With rights come responsibilities after all. Protesting against injustice is a basic human right. The unjust abusing that right - in the manner of a 'protest' - isn't.

So go on, Fred & co. 'Protest' at little childrens' funerals in Oklahoma. Go ahead.

You'll be helping in the annihilation of right-wing Fundamentalist Christianity in the US; certainly P.R.-wise: the traincrash that is everything fundies say, do, and think - and how such is perceived by the rest of the normal, sane USA & the world. And we Atheists won't even have to lift a finger, as you do our work for us (Examples: Lack of foresight in fundies, ensuring Kitzmiller vs. Dover destroying 'I.D.'/Creationism. Prop. 8 being overturned. And now 'DADT' in the US Military being reversed, despite you voting in a Repubican majority). Dance, our puppets, dance.

@Northumbrian

"I suspect that the man is clinically insane by now, and dragging his family down into madness with him (think Jonestown).

Let's hope they never get hold of tactical nukes, and that whoever has his finger on the button in North Korea never becomes as mad as Fred Phelps."

Read Northumbrian's post very carefully Troll4Life, then consider this: As you, and even the KKK, have dissasociated themselves from the WBC, on the other hand just ask yourself this question: what created the conditions for the WBC to come to be in the first place? You never hear of any other similarly insane hyper-fundie Christian 'attention whoring' groups existing in any other country (certainly mine, the UK), behaving the same way. Now, why do you never hear of, say, Amish (or Mennonite), Quaker, Unitarian Universalist, Buddhist, Wiccan, Agnostic or Atheist versions of the WBC, hmmmmm?! After all, you never hear of Atheist cults - armed to the teeth - holing up at a compound in Texas, having to be dealt with by the ATF. Or an Atheist planting a bomb in Oklahoma. Or an Atheist shooting a doctor outside a church - because he works at an abortion clinic. Not anywhere in the world - least of all the USA.

A clue for free, dearie. Three Words: Only. In. America. Another Three Words: Right-wing Fundamentalist Christianity. With the emphasis on Mental.

Curious how such events happened only after all the mental institutions in the US were closed by Ronnie Raygun. Who of course, ultimately ended up going loopy himself. And yet, several years ago here in the UK, the devoutly Christian owner of a coach company ('Good News Travel') in my locale was sectioned under the Mental Health Act, after he went all David Icke, and got the idea into his head (no doubt after a vision & message by the 'Holy Spirit') that if he transported all the Jews in Russia to Israel, the 'Second Coming' would happen. Fortunately, the staff (who lost their jobs due to the inevitable financial problems caused by their boss's insane behaviour) were re-employed by (and the coaches assimilated into) the UK's biggest coach firm, National Express. Whose CEO is an Atheist.

The equivalents of the WBC exist nowhere else on Earth. Not in Sweden, Denmark, here in the UK. Least of all in the Czech Republic, which (according to EU polls & surveys) is the least religious country in Europe. You do the maths.

Would the WBC have come to be, if all Christians in the US were more like the Quakers? Non-fundie?

Being a non-fundie Christian (like those here in FSTDT). It won't kill you. You - via your right-wing thinking - don't want to be associated with those hyper-fundie WBC filthbags. Do you?

If you & your ilk don't want to be associated with the subhumans that are Fred Phelps & the WBC, then surely the onus is upon you & your (slightly left of Fred Phelps) ilk to completely eliminate them (the kids might be salvageable, with proper psychological care, counselling & deprogramming) Or at least lobby the GOP to bring in laws to completely gag them - or force them to be hyper-PC. Like I say - they pose the greatest threat to Christian Fundamentalism. You don't want to be tarred by the same brush as they now. Do you?

Westboro Baptist Church Protesters Blocked by Residents at Mo. Soldier's Funeral"

To say nothing of their 'attendance' at this year's San Diego Comic Con:

(quote): 'There's four of them, and how many of us?!'

With an appearance by no less than Jesus himself. And guess whose side he was on?

Suffice to say, the WBC's own 'protest' didn't last long, thus they fucked off. Fred, Shirley & co.:

You fuck with Sci-Fi, Fantasy & Comics fans at your peril.

@nutcase

"I predicted this: The church tries to ramp up its message every couple of years to prevent media fatigue. I wasn't sure what more they could do to achieve fame after funeral picketing, but it sounds like they thought of something."

And mayhaps that, coupled with this 'incident' is that very 'something' you describe. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if the tyre-slashing act of 'vandalism' was self-inflicted, just to give them an excuse to stoop to this latest depth of depravity.

To reiterate what Giveitaday said, it'll eventually blow up in their faces. Especially if this 'vandalism' turned out to be fake after all.

Oh, they've been careful - so far. PROTIP: Desperation results in making a mistake, especially when one is running out of options (as the WBC clearly are). The one error of judgement that results in your own personal, social - or even physical - obliteration. This could be yours, Fred & Shirley.

Just keep it up.

A certain someone in Berlin, in 1945, eventually realised the game was up. This latest tactic of yours will hopefully be the metaphorical cyanide capsule between the teeth, and Walther PPK to the head, that'll result in your own elimination, WBC.
