There's been debate in Canada over whether these fundies are more likely to abuse children. Case closed?

...Okay, yeah. Stuff like this? It makes me highly disturbed to be inside the same set of borders as Bountiful and its cultists. This is a new high order of crazy. Indoctrination through abuse, fear, and crude violent discipline does not make a stable individual. It makes a cult-droid out of a child. Or worse, a cult-droid that sooner or later will snap, and kill. No criminal law exemptions for the faithful; I have been watching very carefully what the courts have done about Bountiful's polygamist issues. I think it's time for intervention. Polygamy is one matter between consenting (if slightly deluded) adults. Child abuse on an industrial scale is another.

I thought it was horses that needed "breaking in", not children.

I live in BC and work at a grocery store, when I'm at the register and there's no one there I tend to check out the headlines; I had to reread the one this appeared on 4 times before I realized it was true
2/8/2011 1:00:23 AM
You sick SOB!! Reading this is like a hangover
2/8/2011 2:11:33 AM
Damn, I don't like babies, but that's pretty crazy. Can a baby even learn? Wouldn't they just cry again later on no matter how many times you dunked their face in a faucet? :/
2/8/2011 10:12:27 AM
OK WTF is this shit?
How the hell do a group of people beleieve that torturing babies by waterboarding is fine yet homosexuals and atheiest are bad?
Why aren't these people burning in a fire?
2/10/2011 7:44:49 PM
@1253281: "Spare the rod and spoil the child" is a VERY mainstream idea, at least in the religious circles I grew up in. Waterboarding was unheard of, of course, but swatting a child for daring to bite the mother's nipple while feeding, bare-bottom leather belt whippings for speaking out of turn, all of this bullshit was fully endorsed and seen as healthy ways to raise proper children.
Just because your parents weren't sadistic fucktards it means the mainstream CAN'T be? Fuck you.

Late to the party, but this had to be said.
@Fundy church: You are horrible, and any god worth worshiping would condemn your behaviour.
@madtheswine: what HazelHolly and others said. My Christian parents never once laid a hand on me in my entire life, and don't believe in corporal punishment at all.
@jesus-face tortilla: Why do you assume that these people aren't out there condemning this kind of practice-- or, for that matter, that they're Christians? I'm not, and if they haven't stated that they are, then you have little basis to assume.
@DpD: "Fuck you" is a little strong for someone who just disagrees with you. Besides, what makes your anecdotal evidence more valid than anyone else's?
2/12/2011 1:27:29 PM
Just so everyone is clear, this is not mainstream practice in any way for Christians.
2/18/2011 6:16:26 PM
Let's kill doctors with families to save fetuses.
Then we can run their fucking heads under water and drown them!
What fucked up plane of thought are you on dude? FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK You Fucking stupid ass fundy mormons.

One of these days they'll actually outlaw religion in a Western country.
I don't support that in the least, but - and I hate to say this - Stalin's motives for doing so are now actually starting to become understandable, if evil.
I mean, even he thought it was evil.
Religious groups are going so far now that if the government is particularly reactionary it will feel the country's liberties are being encroached upon and motivated to outlaw religion as a knee-jerk reaction.
Either that or "miliant atheist" groups will emerge and start blowing up churches, etc.
Probably because the Government wouldn't do anything as it would be against the group's "human rights".
Can I blame them? Yes.
Is it a good thing? NO.
But can I see their point of view? Yes.
I'm genuinely a little worried.

Sounds like the breeding ground of the next future Jeffery Dahmer.
4/24/2011 10:05:38 PM
A fuckton of people beg to differ
"...there doesn't seem any shame attached to the practice."
Ha ha HA, ha. I don't think so. Sick fucks.
5/2/2011 8:02:46 PM
Cruel mother fuckers, CPS is needed. Poor little kids...:(
5/3/2011 11:50:59 AM
If I ever come to talk to one of the fanatics I would give them a bit of their practices...
5/24/2011 2:33:02 PM
I don't say this often, but these people need to burn to death slowly.
6/1/2011 2:33:13 AM
goddess of hellfire
wow. that explains the people on this site.
6/9/2011 8:39:27 AM
This has been said before, but now I mean it.
Die. In. A. Fire.
6/11/2011 12:06:17 AM
That made me feel sick. Parents are supposed to protect their children from harm, not be the ones who cause permanent harm.
Thank God I live in a country where it is illegal to hit and otherwise intentionally harm children.
"Children have a right to care, safety and a good up-bringing. Children should be treated with respect for their person, character and individuality and may not be subjected to corporal punishment or other abusive/offensive treatment."
6/11/2011 1:15:49 AM
I'm just wondering how this case got from Canadian polygamy laws to baby torture.
7/5/2011 4:45:40 PM
If you are implying that this happened because child abuse is somehow legal
in Canada (as opposed to Sweden, where it is illegal and therefore children are safe):
This is totally illegal in Canada too.
"Physical abuse includes beating, hitting [...] holding a child under water [...]"
Just because these barbarians are doing it doesn't mean it's legal, common, or accepted.
If that was not what you meant to imply, disregard this post.

And atheists are violent and immoral?
Aah, what logical train of thought them religious folk have..

"VANCOUVER — Water torture of babies is one way some members of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day instil fear of authority, a former member testified Wednesday.
"It's quite common," Carolyn Blackmore Jessop told the constitutional reference case"
(*One day, the leader of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is chloroformed from behind, and is bundled into a van and taken away...*)
INT: A windowless room. Tiled, with blood & gore caked on all four walls, floor & ceiling. Racks & tables display all manner of hideously lethal surgical instruments & 'appliances'.
Said leader is naked & strapped to a bench in the centre of the room. The one heavy steel door creaks open. A man walks in, wearing surgical garb (coat, cap, mask); snapping on rubber gloves. The steel door clangs shut behind him. Walking to one of the surrounding tables, he picks up a long-bladed and lethal scalpel. Then turns to the bench with a now terrified and screaming man...:
'Oh, it's quite common', says the medical-garbed man in a calm voice. 'Torturing of subhuman fundies is more than justified, because of what they did to innocent and helpless babies.'
8/18/2011 12:22:10 PM
Waterboarding babies, that's a new low.
