Why would you let them be the ones to stick a disease into your arm? I would never get a swine flu vaccine or any vaccine. I don’t trust the government, especially with my health.

"I don't trust the government ..."
Casting such a broad judgment of untrustworthiness upon your entire government is silly unless you live in, say, North Korea.
We have gone over this... BACK IN THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY.
Well, having an atheist be quoted on here is a nice change of pace, I guess. Disbelief in God is not moron-repellant.
I like Bill's satirical show, but I have to say he's just stupid on this issue.
Oh, and I loved Religulous.
Ah, Bill, you clever swine, you're trying to get the ignorant killed off, aren't you?
@Mike Sihl
Bill Maher is hardly the Glenn Beck of the left, if you mean he's just as stupid and loony as Beck. He's simply not. He is completely wrong on this one issue though, possibly more but it seems he's right more than wrong, something you can't say about Beck and people like him.
Usually Bill is pretty reasonable, but he must have an anti-government streak in him. At any rate, letting them stick a dead or weak disease into your arm is how you keep from getting said disease by building up your immunity. You'd know that if you paid attention in high school biology class.
When Jonas Salk created the first Polio vaccine, and it was used in a huge vaccination campaign across American and it turned out to be both safe and efficient, he became pretty much a hero. Politicians wanted to arrange a tickertape parade for him, sometimes when he was flying, the captain would come on the speakers and announce they had onboard the man who defeated polio, and the other passengers would cheer and applaud, and some hotels offered him to stay for free.
I wish everyone could appreciate vaccination that much today.
If it wasn't for vaccinations we would all still be dying from diseases like cholera, rubella, polio, diptheria and so on. So why do these idiots want to ban vaccinations?
If it wasn't for vaccinations we would still be dying from diseases like polio, diptheria, rubella, typhoid and so on. So why are idiots like this against vaccinations that are designed to save lives?
Because we know what we are doing while you are a complete moron whose platform lets you spread idiocy?
Because we exterminated smallpox and would do the same to polio if not for douchebags like yourself?
@Mike Sihl: Nah, that title belongs to Keith Olbermann.
Beware the ones who end their names with a double 'n'
I had immunotherapy shots for years as a kid, to treat my hay fever. Granted, I hated shots, but the end result was worth it. And the end result is? I'm used to shots, and my hay fever has gone from insufferable to negligable.
In the words of Paracelsus: "All things are poison, and nothing is without poison; only the dose permits something not to be poisonous."
Also, these two gentlemen would like to have a word with you.
Oh FFS what conservative, teabagging conspiracy fuckwi-Bill Maher?
Seriously? I swear I stopped watching his show when he started...being himself. tbh I think I wathced maybe 2 episodes before getting extremely sick of his smug grin and hypocritical antivaxing
Bill Maher, START LISTENING TO THE EXPERTS It's what you tell everyone else on ever other fucking issue.
Then don't. That's your choice as an adult. It's a stupid, poorly-informed choice, but you're welcome to it.
Oh, Bill, and I thought you were one of the smart guys.
Actually, i don't think it is his choice as an adult not to take a vaccine. Vaccines are not 100% effective, and by not taking one, he makes it more likely to infect other people, even ones who did get vaccinated. Which is why several countries make it mandatory. Economists would call it a positive externality, meaning that getting vaccinated has a positive effect on others, even if you do not benefit from that. This implies that left to themselves, selfish individuals will do it less than what is socially optimal.
I don’t trust the government, especially with my health.
Well, apparently (at least I haven’t heard anything about you talking about them) you trust them with
- setting and controlling regulations for the safety of cars
- setting and controlling regulations for the safety of airplanes
- setting and controlling regulations for the safety of food
- setting and controlling regulations for the safety of drinking water
- setting and controlling regulations for the safety of electric appliances
- setting and controlling regulations for the safety of heating devices
- setting and controlling regulations for the safety of medical drugs
It seems that you trust the government with quite a few aspects of your health, Bill. What makes vaccinations so different?
Confused?
