First of all, he didn’t.
Second of all, you really can’t recant a theory. I mean, you publish it, it’s out there. part of science forever more. Might be disproven, or discarded for a better theory, but you can’t recant a theory.
You MIGHT be able to admit to having falsified some test results. But if other researcher did their own experiments, they might have sufficient results to support the theory in spite of discrediting your results.
To get a theory discarded, you need to provide a better theory, with better test results, observations, that sort of thing. MAYBE Einstein might have said that he was wrong, Charandesckar was right, and reference the formula that proves it.
But unlike a relgious figure saying that his revelation is a lie, saying that science is a lie is just thestart of things. People wil lrush o either confirjm or deny the claim.

There were reasons people accepted his theory, he needs to provide reasosn for us to abandon it. His sayso was never sufficient, either way.
