TEHRAN, Iran -- Iran objects to the logo for the 2012 London Olympics, contending it is racist because it resembles the word "Zion" and warning of a possible boycott of the Games.

The secretary general of Iran's National Olympic Committee said Iran sent a letter to International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge. The letter claims the 2012 logo spells out "Zion," a biblical term widely recognized to refer to the city of Jerusalem.

Iran's women's soccer team may be sitting out the 2010 Youth Olympics in Singapore next month because of a dispute over their Islamic uniforms. The young athletes, all under 15, are at the center of a struggle over how to follow Iran's dress code and still compete in the international arena.

The uniforms had been a compromise; in 2007 FIFA, the organizing body of world soccer, had banned the old uniform because it included the hejab, or Islamic head scarf. The hejab violated FIFA safety regulations and a rule barring religious or political symbols on the field, Reuters reports.

If you think the above spells 'Zion', then you lot must be extremely illiterate (and no, 'It spells 'Zion' in Arabic' is no excuse!). If anything, it looks like 'ZOI2'. So what's your fucking problem, Iran?

One more thing. You lot have taken your own sweet fucking time in making said complaint - when the LOCOG bid started in 2003, and of course was ultimately successful in 2005; well over five years. So why didn't the Iranian National Olympic Committee say anything before now, hmmmmmm?! Or is MyMood ImMadInTheHead* just being the Fred Phelps-esque attention whore-cum-troll we've come to expect?!

This coming from a nation that uses a script so crazed that a broken slinky could spell out an entire legible paragraph. When people get insulted by a drawing of an ice cream cone, they can get insulted by just about anything with a couple of lines. ("Mom! My chicken noodle soup just insulted Allah! A fatwah against Campbell's!") (Off-topic, but that reminds me of the Family Guy bit where Peter sees a message in his cereal. "It says, 'Oooooo!'" It's Cheerios.)

I guess, if you read the numbers as letters, top-to-bottom and left-to-right, it reads ZIOZ, and if you rotate the second Z, it's sort of an N (it's hardly even a Z before rotating it). Of course, isn't that just how Hebrew is written?

With the previous protests in that country, coupled with what happened in Tunisia and Egypt, somehow that might give said anti-Islamic Revolution groups the impetus to try again: and succeed..

All it'll take is for the same to happen in Libya, and it'll be what the hawks in the US feared re. Korea, Vietnam etc - a 'Domino Effect' (of Communism) - but in reverse. Middle Eastern peoples rising up to crush their oppressive regimes.

Once Gadaffi has been overthrown (and it's just a matter of time; remember the fall of the USSR & allied countries?), it's time for Iran and Saudi Arabia's leaders to start shitting bricks.

A thought: Should such 'Reverse-Domino effect' come to pass, and we see generally democratic, secular governments in the Middle East, that should piss on the Apocalypse chips of the 'pro-Israel' fundies, eh?!

Or that simply you won't be arsed to have to get up early in the morning to watch the 2012 London Olympics. That's London, and not as in, say New York (whose bid for such games failed**). Yes, it's now we Brits' turn to not have to get up at ungodsly hours of the night/early morning to see events live. If, for example, there's an athletics event at, say, 10 AM (BST); you over there will now have to get up as early as 5 AM - or even 2 AM (UK time) to watch such live! And I very much doubt LOCOG & the IOC are going to listen to any requests by the US networks to reschedule such, just for the sake of their poor viewers, eh?! And why the fuck should they? You get what you're fucking given this time. SUFFER! >:D

And actually, I can kind of see how it could spell "Zion" -- if I kind of tilt my head and squint.

Okay, so the 2 on the top left looks like a Z, that one isn't hard. The letter beneath it is an i, only the dot at the top has fallen off. I guess it was squished off by the Z. The letter on the top right is an O. To be honest, I think it fails even as a zero because there isn't a hole in the center.

And then the symbol on the bottom right, that one is kind of tricky. Like the 2 on the upper left, this one looks kind of like a Z. But if you flip a Z onto either side you get something that looks like a capital N.
So I guess I can see how 2012 spells Zion, or rather, "ZiON" or "ZioN" -- I guess the government of Iran doesn't know how capital letters work in the English language.

It doesn't work very well. It's still an ugly image. And Mrs. Antichrist is right, it does look like "Lisa Simpson pleasuring someone." Damn it! I can't un-see that! The only reason I managed to find out how it said "Zion" was to do anything to keep that image from being the first thing in my mind every time I saw that image. But the whole "Zion" thing is such a stretch, while the Lisa Simpson image is right there. Now every time I see that fugly logo, I'm going to think of that. His4life has a point, that logo really does look kind of perverted. I'm just glad I don't care that much about sports and probably wasn't going to watch much of the Olympics anyway.

Come on, why did anyone think this logo was a good idea. It offends my aesthetic tastes. It was pretty close to making my eyes bleed even before the whole Lisa Simpson thing. It's not like everyone in Britain is blind. I'm sure there are thousands upon thousands of artistically talented Brits. So why does the logo look like it was designed with the sort of talent for art that Vogons have for poetry?
