It is about legal matter that all couples need to have tidied up, especially those of us who are advancing in years. We want out affairs in order. I want my partner of 38 years to inherit and have hospital visitation rights. Where does religion enter here?

Let's see if this rings any bells: The Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, justification of torture and murder in the interest of the greater good; meaning the priviliged few, denial of any assistance to the poor, needy and starving because it smacks of "socialism", indefatigable defense of the Death Penalty despite mounting evidence that it doesn't reduce crime, delusions of a reward in the afterlife leading to countless atrocities commited in the name of an invisible friend in the sky..

Well, I guess that if you define a fertilized egg as a living human being, typically more eggs are fertilized than actually implanted for in vitro fertilization, you know, so that the doctors can choose the embryo with the best chance of survival when it's implanted and as back-ups in case something goes wrong. In the past I've said that if you truly believe life begins at conception, you should be against in vitro fertilization and not just abortion and stem cell research.

But when I said that, the point was to show that this idea that a fertilized egg is a living human being is utterly ridiculous. I wasn't suggesting that anyone actually start opposing in vitro fertilization.

I'm all for not looking like a complete and total idiot when I attack complete and total idiocy. I know that there have been times when I've failed at that, but I try to avoid being an idiot. Having read through the comments here, I agree that we probably shouldn't be bothered by the fact that Falconspeed is using Latin. I agree with you there. I also agree that saying that the Rapture is part of Catholic dogma is an incredible statement in idiocy and/or ignorance. So I went back and read through the comments several times. The only person who ever mentioned the Rapture was you. One person mentioned the that there was hypocrisy in saying other people live in a Culture of Death when you yourself are eagerly awaiting the End Times. But the End Times doesn't specifically involve the Rapture. I know that the Catholics aren't, as a whole, as obsessed with the End Times as certain Protestant groups. But a lot of Catholics believe in the Second Coming and the End Times as far as I can tell. Maybe I'm missing something here. Maybe you are Catholic or come from a Catholic background and know a lot more about this than I do. If I'm wrong here, I welcome any corrections because I'd like to know. But as it stands now, can we not confuse the concept of the End Times in general with the Rapture when we accuse other people of being retards?

No, I think their opposition to both are one of a piece. They see both contraception and abortion as allowing people to have sex for fun (with someone else instead of ME) without being punished for it. That's their real complaint and why they oppose both. They don't give a rat's butt about babies. The same people usually also oppose Medicaid and welfare paying to keep the same babies alive after birth, too. For them, the possibility of unplanned-for pregnancy is the sword hanging over peoples' heads to prevent them from having sex for fun (with someone else instead of ME) without consequences Abortion and birth control take away that sword. Medicaid dulls it.

They want people who have sex for fun (with someone else instead of ME) to suffer being stuck with a child for 18-20 years, and if they can't afford to feed them or pay for medical help and have to watch them suffer or die, so much the more well-deserved is the suffering ... that'll teach the little sluts (to screw other guys instead of ME)!

Given that Latin pray I can safely assume you're Catholic. Well allow me to break down your stance of these issues so we can see who is more evil.

Ultimately the Catholic stance on all these issues isn't one of pro-life. The pro-life movement has spent millions of dollars invested in stopping abortion and the use of condoms, but has never given a cent to help people who already have kids. Given how so many conservatives are also against social programs like, they don't give a flying fuck what happens to the kid, so long as it's born and raised Christian. At it's base, the pro-life movement is really a pro-natal movement, and it comes not from the Bible, but from the Catholic Church's insatiable desire for power.
Pro-lifers are against abortion because they want every conceived fetus to be born, and they are against birth control because they want every possible act of sex to result in conception. The Catholic church adopted this policy because believers are the core of it's power, and if more people are born and raised Catholic, then they have more power, and more filled seats giving into to the donation bin. This is also why Catholics insist on sex after marriage, to ensure that every conceivable act of sex results in a child who will be raised Catholic. This is also why condemning homosexuals and gay marriage is also so strong, despite being mentioned only in one single part of the Bible. Because a gay couple isn't going to have kids, therefore the must be either pressured into having a loveless marriage with the member of the other sex, or killed.
It's as simple as that. You're whole belief on this issue is based around giving your Church more power. It has no place in the modern world, and has repressed gays and women for countless centuries, all so the Pope can sit his fat, wrinkled ass in the most opulent building on the planet. Your beliefs are evil, and have allowed greater evils, from the Crusades to the Inquisition to the suppression of scientific knowledge to exist.

First it was forcing people to believe in a deity who would smite, punish and kill anyone who disagreed with what a cabal of priests and scribes told them. Then the enslavement of women, then wars, torturing non-believers until they converted, executing people branded as witches because they had something their accuser wanted such as land, money, etc., allowing the poor to die from starvation and disease because those in power believed these people were being punished for something and denying life-saving medical procedures because the people in power decided that these procedures didn't fall in line with what their book of fairy tales told them.
