Human bodies are "designed" to efficiently extract protein from animal sources.
Until science comes up with meat grown in vitro I am going to keep eating animals for my amino acid and B12 requirements
4/28/2011 6:02:18 AM
lol, this is the reason why my vegan colleague hates his fellow vegans - they're all crazy! There are many, many more like that one out there.
4/28/2011 6:03:33 AM
I'm hoping this is a sarcastic take-down of the old gays should keep it in private thing....
4/28/2011 6:19:24 AM
4/28/2011 6:23:51 AM
I'm all for animal rights and sternly against animal abuse but dude. Humans are omnivores after all
4/28/2011 6:23:53 AM
Did Bea really just equate having a cheeseburger with raping a child?
4/28/2011 6:24:48 AM
the best hamburgers are the ones where you can see your reflection. Militant vegan = fail.
4/28/2011 6:27:56 AM
What a boring place the world would be if we couldn't eat meat or have barbeques. If you don't want to eat or use animal products in any way, then good for you. But since man evolved to be omniverous, I'll eat meat along with my vegetables.
If animals weren't meant to be eaten, they wouldn't be so darn tasty!
Oh, and animals tend to eat other animals for nourishment, too. It's completely normal & natural to eat other animals. So whenever you're successful at getting lions to eat grass instead of gazelles, I'm going to continue eating cows, chickens, pigs, and fish.
4/28/2011 6:29:08 AM
Gotta admit, this is refreshing. We don't get that many non-religious fundies here.
4/28/2011 6:29:35 AM
Okay, let's get serious. There is absolutely no evidence in the palaeoanthropological record to indicate that Homo sapiens has ever been anything other than omnivorous, eating both meat and vegetation. In fact there is considerable evidence to suggest that early hominids were only kick-started down the road of evolution to become what we are once they relinquished a total or primarily vegetarian diet and started to get more animal protein through scavenging and/or hunting. Meat made you what you are, respect it.
4/28/2011 6:30:26 AM
Bea, you may not be aware of this, but just as not every woman is capable of breastfeeding, not every human body remains healthy on an all-veggie diet.
I have gone this route twice and both times was made very sick and weak by it. This was with the support of my doctor and a nutritionist. I did everything right, adding lots of soy and green leafy veggies to my diet, and even learned to love tofu (which I still eat every chance I get). The last time I was a vegetarian I became so depleted and anemic I was risking permanent nerve damage. After I began eating meat again my health improved dramatically.
So no, I'm not doing anything I feel needs to be hidden. Would I rather not have to do it? Absolutely! As an animal-loving Pagan I'd feel a lot better if I weren't eating meat. However, I have two young children with autism and I can't allow myself to get seriously ill from a nutritional deficiency just to avoid offending your tender sensibilities. It is my joy and my responsibility to be able to keep up with my children.
Get over yourself. Being vegan does not give you the right to force your lifestyle upon others or condemn them for not sharing it.

4/28/2011 6:32:34 AM
I'm going to have to ask you to look up the song "Beef and Broccili" kthanx.
4/28/2011 6:34:00 AM
I think that I am going to have some veal tonight.
4/28/2011 6:34:37 AM
So in other words, limit the freedoms of others to pretend as though society at large did not evolve as an omnivorous species.
If I can't see it, it's not wrong! >.>
4/28/2011 6:35:31 AM
So I'm taking a wild stab here that Bea probably wouldn't like our annual butchering in the backyard just after deer hunting season. String those bucks up, skin 'em and start filleting out the steaks and back straps (tender loins).
There is nothing better than butchering on a cool, crisp, sunny fall day with a hot plate, skillet and butter for quick cooking up the scraps for a tasty snack. Just gotta keep the dogs from nibbling at the carcasses!
4/28/2011 6:45:21 AM
Another sad case of someone's belief wanting to be everybody else's as well. It seems that belief naturally wants to drill down to a fundamental bedrock of obdurate malignancy, where it will encounter on its downward journey the thick ooze of slavering idiocy and the shifting sands of canting codswallop.
4/28/2011 6:49:30 AM
Humans are Omnivores. Deal with it.
4/28/2011 6:57:28 AM
I say that it should be compulsory for right-wing Fundamental
ist Christianity to be practiced in the closet. And only
there; not even in other parts of the home, nor even churches - least of all anywhere else.
Matthew 6:6 orders you to
see paedophilia openly practiced by right-wingers of their ilk:
With not a single word of condemnation, nor show-trials & witchhunts by Repubicans, GOP, Teabaggers, Religious Right et al, to purge their ranks of these subhumans.
...oh yes, that's right. If they did
, there'd be no right-wing left in the US; as not only would their image & reputation be irreparably damaged, there'd probably be no Fundamentalist religion left to believe in.
And now, this is the part where you explain to me what the fuck does the perfectly innocuous & completely legal practice of eating meat - even in the form of a burger/hot dog etc in public - even remotely have to do with the infinitely more hideous crimes of paedophilia and murder, eh Bea?
So people eat meat in public. Cry more, emo kid.
There's occasions when, coming home from the pub, I've bought & eaten a kebab from a takeaway. With emphasis on coming home.
Deal with it, Bea.

I've known precisely two vegans I could not argue with. One had a genetic flaw and couldn't digest protein. The other just didn't like the taste.
The vegetarian couple who were leatherworkers, though, kind of bothered me.
4/28/2011 7:11:56 AM
4/28/2011 7:21:25 AM
Here, we see proof that the bigot mindset is not limited to religious fundies and right-wing privileged assholes.
4/28/2011 7:24:26 AM
I'm vegan - and I think this is just stupid! I'm sorry, but there is a fairly high number of "holier than though" vegans!
The rest of my family eats meat! My husband is a hunter! Live and let live ....
4/28/2011 7:30:49 AM
on the other hand - I get a lot of grief from my father in law for my lifestyle choice. He doesn't even try the cookies I bake because they are vegan! Just as stupid!
4/28/2011 7:31:50 AM
> on the other hand - I get a lot of grief from my father in law for my lifestyle choice. He doesn't even try the cookies I bake because they are vegan! Just as stupid!
Wait - there are cookies with meat out there? Or do you include no-eggs into your vegan lifestyle?
