First of all, I don't think you know what the word slander means. It is a legal term and doesn't mean disagreeing with you and being unafraid to voice the fact that your cult is a bunch of bullshit.
I'd agree with you on the stalking though, because a couple of Saturdays a month I go out and knock on some Christians' doors and try to read to them from the book of Atheism. Oh, wait, it's THEN knocking on MY door.
I would hazard that property theft is rarely, if ever, religiously motivated so I really don't know what the fuck you're getting at there. Theft is pretty much an opportunity crime commited by, you know, thieves, most of whom are Christians.*
I'd agree there are crazy atheist psychopaths, but mental illness is an equal opportunity disease. Being that in the U.S. 80 percent of Christianity, roughly 80 percent of the crazy psychopaths are logically going to be Christian. And yes, Fred Phelps is in your camp. According to your book all one has to do to be a Christian is mumble the magic words to Jesus and "presto," so you can't disavow yourselves of his crazy.

Often? I doubt it even qualifies as rarely. given the low percentage of atheists combined with the extremely low percentage of psychopaths in the general population.

a few points

- fundies are so called because that is what they are. It's not really being spiteful, just realistic

- They often are moronic and idiotic, denying reality and embracing a malignant and lying book in favour of seeking truth for themselves. Worse, they cherry-pick from this book and take what suits their personal prejudices, blithely ignoring what does not suit them. This is hypocrisy.

- They also have no qualms about insulting and attacking Muslims, Catholics, Atheists, Jews, Gays etc, etc.

- They too have been known to slander and stalk, like that assistant lawyer who lost his job over stalking a gay student

Unfortunately the atheists i have met are often about as hostile, in terms of verbal and condescending insults as the fanatical Christians they criticise, which i think is ironic because many atheists i have met demand tolerance for atheism, yet call my religious beliefs moronic and ignorant. I think its asking alot when you demand respect for your beliefs while insulting those of the person you are demanding respect from. However, i dont get the solen property thing...are atheists suddenly going around stealing stuff?

Rude, arrogant, in your face atheists, are one of the only reasons i dont fully embrace Communism, and why i cant call myself a true Communist, and not to try to piss anyone off, but there are an awful lot of very harsh insults about people who hold religious beliefs (not just "fundie" beliefs) ont this board as well.

Would you kindly care to explain to me, what atheism has to do with communism? It's an irritating, common misconception. Firstly, Stalin was actually raised Catholic, and he carried on with it while it was a useful political tool. It was set aside not because he himself became an atheist, but because it lost its political usefulness and church organizations stepped in the way of the Party.

Secondly, please explain to me why I have any obligation whatsoever, to be kind to individuals that threaten me with eternal torture, earthly death threats over my sexual orientation, foolish legislation that damns science to perdition over their popular, errant opinion and far more egregious crimes against humanity. They don't deserve any respect, because they do not approach the rest of humanity with anything even resembling respect. The vast majority of them spit contemptuously on anything even slightly perceived as against their creed, they reject intellectualism and make a farcical mockery of any attempt to impose real world concepts.

Is it any more honest to mollycoddle them with flowery rhetoric about their destructive habits and schizotypal issues? Call a fundie a fundie. Call an idiot an idiot. I won't deny that some atheists have said nasty things to Christians who don't deserve it. But this is the internet. People call each other much worse names than "retards," "idiots," "morons," and "fundies" all the time for the most trivial of reasons. Most atheists don't go around claiming that all Christians are stupid.

However, in my experience, most atheists simply stick to the claim that stupid people are stupid. And some stupid people happen to be Christian.

Navaros may well be called a retard, an idiot, a moron, and a fundie quite frequently. But, judging by this and several of Navaros's other posts, that's because this description is accurate. I think Navaros has drawn the conclusion that because he gets called all of these things, therefore atheists call all Christians these things.

That extrapolation is incredibly unfair both to atheists and to Christians. Because Navaros does not represent most Christians.

For one thing, I doubt that the atheists you've met is actually a fair representation of most atheists if the atheists you've met are actually that hostile. For another, note that the hostility you've seen from atheists is entirely verbal. It consists of criticizing people's beliefs. Atheists aren't trying to deny people fundamental rights. Atheists aren't trying to stop science from being taught to schoolchildren. Atheists aren't bombing abortion clinics. The problem atheists have with fundamentalists is usually not the strength with which fundamentalists voice their beliefs or the tone fundamentalists take when voicing their beliefs. The problem atheists have with fundamentalists is that their beliefs are wrong and that these beliefs are used to justify doing bad things.

We aren't looking for tolerance of atheism so much as tolerance of atheists. We just don't want to be discriminated against simply because we don't believe in any God. We don't want to be treated as second-class citizens because we don't belief in God. And most of us think the same tolerance should be extended to people of all religious persuasions. You can criticize our non-belief in any God(s) all you want. The same goes for any religious position. We aren't asking for people to shut up. We aren't trying to take away anyone's freedom of speech.

Most of us are not asking you to respect our beliefs. We're asking that you respect our right to not believe in God. We're asking you to respect us as individuals if we've earned it. I can respect someone's right to belief something without respecting that belief itself. I can respect an individual even if I don't respect all of his beliefs.

Given that Navaros believes that humans lived alongside dinosaurs, I think that it's safe to say that Navaros isn't all that closely connected to reality. Don't worry about not getting it, I'm not sure that there's anything to get.

If you're upset because some atheists say mean things about religion, all I can do is tell you that you really need to get a thicker skin. And don't ever get into a conversation about politics with anyone. If you don't like some of the things some atheists say about religion, you wouldn't believe how harsh and insulting people can be when discussing something like politics.

Because the unflinchingly religious Christian right in this country have bought into the idea that everything is either conservative Christian or godless communism and have dominated the discussion on the matter, shifting the Overton window to such a degree that any attempt to even show why certain Biblical teachings might be consistent with communism over capitalism will get you branded as Unchristian. You don't just have the Communist party to blame, but the noisy members of your religion as well. You are member of two groups that desperately need to clean house.

Also, regarding respect: who gives a fuck about respecting beliefs? As long as we respect that, regardless of beliefs, we are all human beings, then who gives a damn if we point out why we think one another is wrong? It's rather inane to demand something called "respect" that is really being too much of a coward to state why we believe what we do and why we believe one another is wrong. It isn't respectful to believe that a person is profoundly wrong in private but to never bother to correct to them for fear that they are too much of a child to withstand criticism. It is instead a sniveling attempt to feel morally superior by avoiding conflict at worst, or, at best, a dispirited acknowledgment that opinions on the matter will never be changed and aren't worth addressing. Neither perspective is particularly popular, I dare say. But it sounds so much more appealing when you call such a thing "respect".

You may well be right in saying that atheists tend liberals, but there are a good few libertarian atheists out there as well, and even outright conservative atheists. Like I said, atheism is simply a lack of belief in any Gods. It doesn't necessarily say anything about one's politics. (That being said, most people would consider me a liberal.)

No. I don't criticize Christians for being evil. I criticize actions for being evil. All people do some good things and some bad things. No one is perfectly good or perfectly evil. Most people, Christians and atheists included, do some bad things and some good things, and try to make the good outweigh the bad. When someone does something evil, I call that action evil, no matter the religion of the person taking that course of action. If Christianity is used to justify an evil action, I may well point this out, the same with any other belief that is used to justify an evil action. And I doubt that there is any one perfect and truly ethical political and economic system out there. Communism might have been a nice idea in theory, but when played out in reality Communism has failed to be truly ethical. Although it was ultimately meant to help the workers who were oppressed by the elites, in practice it simply replaced one group of elites with another and the people were just as oppressed as ever.

I agree. Pure capitalism not only goes against Christian teachings, but it's fundamentally flawed. Just like Communism, pure capitalism doesn't work. I tend to support things like health care, public schools, and regulating businesses. All of these things could be considered socialist. I think that our best bet for finding the most ethical system of politics and economics is to combine different aspects of socialism and capitalism, so that we end up with neither in it's pure form. I doubt that there can ever be a perfect system, but we can certainly work towards a better one.

I basically agree with your thoughts on Christianity here. I think that there are some nice bits of social justice in the Bible. I think certain parts go to far, and others don't go far enough, but my opinion is irrelevant to what the text actually says. You do seem to follow you're Bible more closely when it comes to economic issues than most if the Christians I know.

Yeah, Communism does tend to incorporate atheism. I don't know what country you are from and I've never considered joining any Communist Party here is America, so I can't really speak on that issue. But given that you can find a lot of Communist principles in Christian scriptures, I'm surprised that there aren't more Christians like you.
