Quote# 83388

For 40 years, this country has endured a social movement that has been relentless in its goals. Women on the left believe the feminist movement is responsible for liberating women from constricted lives; women on the right see things differently. Feminists are consumed with their place in society; conservative women are not. They are especially uninterested in fighting a gender war. That's why the Submission Question could be asked only of a conservative female candidate. It's women on the right, we're told, who want to keep women in their place. Conservative women are anti-woman.

So what to do when faced with a female candidate who's conservative and popular? Why, portray her as a religious nut and a doormat, of course! Indeed, feminists know most women won't identify with that kind of woman. And they're right: they won't. Women on the left don't appreciate that traditional values, even Biblical values, are not at odds with female empowerment. No matter what you think of Bachmann or Sarah Palin, these women have proved this in spades. No one gets to their position by being oppressed or mousy.

For the first time in decades, the liberal feminist establishment is up against something new: outspoken conservative women who undermine the feminist agenda. Conservative women are supposed to stay home! Conservative women are supposed to lead nice, traditional lives: raise a gaggle of children, be subordinate to their husbands and stay out of the public sphere. Why are they asserting their independent minds?

The implication that Michele Bachmann is a Stepford wife in disguise was a pitiful attempt to bring down a female conservative candidate who has sinned in the worst way possible: She does not carry the feminist torch. And, yet, she still won the Iowa straw poll.

Perhaps feminism really is dead.

She IS a religious nut! She IS a Stepford wife! She is also an idiot!!

First of all, what disguise?

Second, lol at the idea that misandry doesn't exist among conservative women.

It doesn't take a liberal feminist to harbor male unfriendly thoughts and feelings.

Percy Q. Shunn

lol!

Bachmann is even stupider than Palin (is that even possible?)

Why do conservative voters admire these stupid cunts?

You are equating that ALL Conservative Women are the same as Xtian Fundy Women. You can be conservative and not jump off of the deep end into Right-Wing Nuttery.

That's why the Submission Question could be asked only of a conservative female candidate.

No - it was asked because Bachmann brought this up. If you are going to run for the PotUS, expect to have your life & views vetted.

So what to do when faced with a female candidate who's conservative and popular? Why, portray her as a religious nut and a doormat, of course!

It is not because she is conservative - it is because she is a religious nutjob. If Condoleeza Rice was running, I expect you would not see this.

Women on the left don't appreciate that traditional values, even Biblical values, are not at odds with female empowerment.

There you are wrong. The Bible is very clear on the place of women. You are just trying to hand-wave away all of the misogyny found in your fairy-tale book.

The implication that Michele Bachmann is a Stepford wife in disguise was a pitiful attempt to bring down a female conservative candidate who has sinned in the worst way possible: She does not carry the feminist torch.

No - it was revealing what some of her core beliefs are. If a woman is supposed to SUBMIT to her husband (per the Babble) then that is something she needs to be grilled on. I heard her answer, totally BS. Unless she is lying for Jebus (which would not be unusual), what she said had nothing to do with what her holy book says.

And, yet, she still won the Iowa straw poll.

Which says a lot about Iowans. The straw poll is a long way from being the Rep. Nominee and is even further from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

The issue is not that conservative women are to stay at home while liberal women are to conquer the world. The issue is that liberal women are demonized when they do not adhere to the "traditional" female role of submissive wife, mother, and homemaker. Yet conservative women who do not conform are praised. It's hypocrisy at its finest.

Oh, and conservative is not capitalized you stupid cunt.

Hello, doublethink. We meet again.

Here's what's funny: feminism is what lets women like Michelle Bachmann run for president. Without feminism, there would be no conservative women, or liberal women, because they wouldn't be in politics at all.

So when you say, "Why are they asserting their independent minds?", the answer is "Feminism."

We want to stick to what the Bable says, unless it in anyway makes our lives too hard. /fundiebrain

Bachmann claims to be a Fundamental Christian, she thinks the Bible 100% true in every detail...and yet she is not doing what it says about a woman staying at home and not making decisions. A perfect thing to grill her over, it makes her a liar or a hypocrite.

Utter and total contradiction here. Only a liberated woman would be able to kill/shoot animals from a helicopter; become governor of a state; aspire to the US presidency. This implies someone who has fought, and won, the gender war. This is a contrary to the role laid out for women in the bible. St. Paul encapsulates it: let women be silent in the assembly. Palin and Bachmann are far from obeying the sainted Paul's command. Being 'outspoken' (Suzanne's word!) makes them rebels and lacking in biblical discipline.

Any woman who goies into politics, by definition is not able to look after her family. Politics demand every hour, especially the quest for re-election! For a woman this is a statement, clear as can be, of emancipation and feminism over traditional values of motherhood and home-making.

Conservative women are supposed to stay home! Why are they asserting their independent minds?"

Because of the success of liberal feminist women in forcing conservative men to allow the assertion of independent minds. Stupid Sarah and Mad Michelle are the result of 40 years of relentless liberal feminism.

"The implication that Michele Bachmann is a Stepford wife in disguise was a pitiful attempt to bring down a female conservative candidate who has sinned in the worst way possible: She does not carry the feminist torch. And, yet, she still won the Iowa straw poll."

In that case, if I lived in the US, I wouldn't want to live in Iowa.

No, Randy Travis won that straw poll.

And who knows why the Peggy Hills of the GOP get all the attention? Maybe it's because all those at-home Peggy Hills see something in their shiney mirror.

Sure, they seem to stand for what they believe in -too bad what they believe is batshit insanity.

Doubting Thomas

Women on the left believe the feminist movement is responsible for liberating women from constricted lives; women on the right see things differently.

Because most conservative women are doormats who think that their place is in the kitchen.

She does not carry the feminist torch. And, yet, she still won the Iowa straw poll.

Perhaps feminism really is dead.

You do know that the Iowa straw poll was Republicans voting for Republicans in a conservative state, don't you? Of course they're not going to vote for a liberal feminist. To claim that feminism is dead because of a Republican vote is absurd.

Oh and it's funny how conservative women decry the feminist movement, when it was a feminist movement which gave women the right to vote.

If Michelle Bachmann wants to follow her religion's dictates and keep quiet in the assembly, that's fine by me.

What say? She doesn't? Why, that uppity feminist!

sarah palin seems the same except tamer and dumber, although that might be a misinterpretation on my part.

I don't get this nut...at the end is she saying that Bachmann, Palin, etc. SHOULD be staying out of the public sphere and just playing the role of subordinate baby-factory?

The question was appropriate as she said herself that she is submissive to her husband. Her answer "submission = respect" sounds like something an abuse victims would say.

"No matter what you think of Bachmann or Sarah Palin, these women have proved this in spades."

The only thing they've "proved in spades" is that they're both a joke.

"No one gets to their position by being oppressed or mousy."

Maybe not, but apparently dumb and air-headed will get you quite a ways. It's also a bonus if you're hotter than your hillbilly target demographic's wife/cousin. It's obvious they aren't voting in women like Palin and Bachmann by using their brains, so they must be voting with some other part of their anatomy instead.

"For the first time in decades, the liberal feminist establishment is up against something new: outspoken conservative women who undermine the feminist agenda. Conservative women are supposed to stay home! Conservative women are supposed to lead nice, traditional lives: raise a gaggle of children, be subordinate to their husbands and stay out of the public sphere. Why are they asserting their independent minds?"

Why indeed. I used to think that conservative men wanted their women to stand there, shut up and look good because they were oppressive pricks. Now I know it's because their women say something embarrassingly stupid every time they open their mouth and it's better for everyone if they're seen and not heard.

"Perhaps feminism really is dead."

Yes, yes. Sure now.

You go rest. You must be tired after such a release of stupidity.

"Being 'outspoken' (Suzanne's word!) makes them rebels ..."

I think the word you're looking for is "mavericks."
In some thread back during the '08 election, a commenter who seemed to know something about cattle said that maverick is synonymous with stupid cow. A cow dumber than the average cow has to be really, really stupid.

JohnTheAtheist

Bachmann, like Palin, is most known for the things she doesn't know, i.e. for being stupid. And you think this is an admirable quality for a potential President. That astonishes me. Our political leaders should not be salt of the earth, they need to be exceptional. I am sure that there are intelligent conservative women out there and their voices would be listened to.

These two nut jobs aren't it and it is an insult to other women to suggest otherwise.

The usual line: liberal women are just jealous because they are ugly, unfilfilled, have penis envy, and aren't "real women". Now, if "real womanhood" is so fulfilling, why do people like Palin, Bachman, and Schlaffly seem to be advocating it only for OTHER women?

So, you won't be voting for Batscat Shelly (or Sarah Failin) then? Or even voting, period?

Hmmmmm, maybe there's something to be said for Teabagger thinking...?!

Reuters (London): The sun rose in the west toady, for no discernible reason. Scientists at NASA, along with Professors of Cosmology at the Royal Society and the Greenwich Observatory are analysing this unusual astronomical aberration. Cardinal Cormac Murphy O'Connor, of the Diocese of Westminster, has stated that Pope Benedict XVI has converted to Islam. Witnesses reported a bear entering the public toilets at Waterloo railway station today. Sarcasm meters nationwide exploded, causing massive amounts of irony fallout. Police have apprehended Doug Piranha, to help them with their enquiries.
