I do wonder what these folks would think if they only knew female equality arose, and had succeeded, some 3,000 year ago with the rise of the Celtic culture on the shores of Lake Hallstatt in Austria.

While the patriarchal culture they so cherished in in the Bible was keeping women in a second class role, the Celts were being equally led by both men and women. Women owned their own property independent of their husbands, would accompany them in battle, and shared in the same duties that men performed in other cultures. You were as likely to see a Gaulish, Brigantes, or Breton woman forging iron implements, hauling in hunted game, or tilling a field as you were to see a man of these same tribes. Also, a Celtic woman's prowess in battle was not to be underestimated given her gender or build. As one Roman historian put it, and I paraphrase, "An entire legion could be held off by but a single Celt and his wife.."

It is sad to think that in response to what they perceive as "Extreme Matriarchy", they respond with a push for "Extreme Patriarchy", or at least a male advantaged society. Neither of these things work, really, as one party is always going to be "looked down upon". In my opinion, a society analogous to the that of the Celts, one that truly treats both genders equally, would be the best. Western civilization has many aspects of it already in place, but still has some steps to go before a true analogue would be achieved. I for one look forward to that day.
