People for the American Way should be renamed People for the un-American Way
These are the goals of the People for the American Way , as quoted directly from their website:
"People For the American Way is dedicated to making the promise of America real for every American: Equality. Freedom of speech. Freedom of religion. The right to seek justice in a court of law. The right to cast a vote that counts. The American Way."
Yup, that's just about as un-American as it gets.
Equality? un-American!
Freedom of speech? un-American!
Freedom of religion? un-American!
Justice? un-American!
Voting? un-American!
Yes, People for the American Way should be renamed People for the un-American Way. At least.
[for the occasional dumb shit who doesn't understand the concept of irony, the above is irony, get it? (probably not)}
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"
That has been part of the Constitution, the highest law of the land, since it was ratified more than two centuries ago. Who's the un-American one here?
Really? You find PFAW to be unAmerican just because most of them are liberals that just happen to be fighting for the Constitution?
And where exactly does Atheism enter that equation? Like, at all? And I daresay my citizenship is just as valid as yours, repugnant though you may be.
He quotes the usual Declaration of Independence wording ("they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights") and goes on: "Thus, America was founded on the principle that the Creator God endowed men with certain unalienable rights."
These were intelligent men. They were issuing a document that was at best treason, and at worst, a declaration of war. You'd better believe they considered every word. They didn't choose "their Creator" out of thin air. They deliberately said "their Creator". They didn't say "the Creator God"; less did they say "our Creator" - they simply said "their creator". They left it open. It could be the Christian God, it could be one of the Hindu gods - it could even be the Flying Spaghetti Monster or some unseen force or physical principle. It could be a different "creator" for each person. It suggests that they were already thinking in terms later expressed in the First Amendment and the prohibition of religious tests for public office. Also, remember that they were writing the King George, who was nominally a believer in God, so they stated it in terms he would understand.
To be fair, nearly every one of the comments that are on the first page is completely destroying the idiot original poster.
On World Net Daily, no less. I was impressed.
I'm sure millions of people now hate you.
Luckily, I'm not American and don't really care.
But that's still clearly bullshit.
Here's his thought process:
1. PftAW operates Right Wing Watch
2. Right Wing Watch features some of the worst quotes from fundies, via YouTube.
3. The comments sections of those videos are full of idiots who think that religion is somehow responsible for all the world's ills.
4. Thus, PftAW hates religion.
5. Thus, PftAW hates freedom of religion.
6. Thus, PftAW is unAmerican.
This probably makes sense in fundie world.
"theists can’t be real Americans in the truest sense of the word...."
It's nice to know that my 20 years of military service defending your rights to spew your bile are all negated by my simple unbelief in gods.
Atheists can’t be real Americans
Excellent, we can now quote Joseph Farah as having said that Muslims, Hindi, Krishna, all flavors of polytheistic pagans, Jews, etc., etc. can be fine Americans. Anything, as long as they're not atheist.*
Thank you, Mr. Farah, we will start spreading the word about your love for Muslims right now. I'm sure your Tea Party friends will jump for joy!
Allahu 'Akbar! In your name!
*I know that this is invalid logic, but who cares? Rhetoric doesn't nourish itself on validity.
Atheists have served in the military for decades, dickhead, and probably for centuries before that. We're also dedicated to preserving the Constitution which many fascist right-wingers are trying to bring down. Now go fuck yourself.
People for the American Way should be renamed People for the un-American Way.
Damn, but that's some brilliant turn around on the atheists. Psych!
You could write ads for Madison Avenue with that big brain.
It's right up there with "I know you are but what am I?"
"Americans"
fled the old world because they were being persecuted and immediately started persecuting other Americans whose belief was slightly different.
You couldn't make it up
(P.S. - I know that was a blanket statement, but your noisiest are often your nastiest!)
Hey asshole! I believe very strongly in the U.S. Constitution, especially the First Amendment which guarantees freedom of religion for EVERYONE, not just Christians. Since you apparently don't, that makes me more American than you.
Hmmm, let's see-
-Born in America-check
-Butt firmly planted inside American borders at this moment-check
-Law abiding (most of the time, anyway)-check
-Tax paying-check
-Speaks American dialect -check
I don't know how much more American I can get than that.
Atheists can’t be real Americans in the truest sense of the word...
Yet the founding fathers included no religious test for citizenship. I think that tells us all that we need to know about where you are in relation to the American way, Farah.
I;m sorry, who appointed you supreme judge of who is American and who is not? Oh, that's right, no one. You're just spewing your hateful, untrue opinion on what you think an American should be.
Mr. Farah, are you now, or have you ever been an article of clothing known as pants, underpants, or an "ass hat"?
Think carefully before you give an answer to this committee. /Joe McCarthy
Is that the kind of "True American" that gives you a hard-on?
I am not American, but I love the concept of America. A land where thought is free and independent, where new ideas are accepted, where the mind is without fear. The land of the free.
It feels like a betrayal.
This is un-American: The will of the majority imposed on the minority to keep them oppressed, then screaming 'persecution' when the latter ask to be treated like human beings. And then it is said that conservatives, reduced to supporting such actions, are true Americans?
Notice how the fundies automatically assume that all Progressives are atheist? How do they know that folks from PFAW, SPLC, ACLU, The Democratic Party, The Green Party, etc. don't contain truckloads of religious, spiritual people?
Nothing wrong with being an atheist, but still....
"Atheists can’t be real Americans in the truest sense of the word"
You mean, like living on the American continent, and all that sort of things ?
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
