Yea, Jefferson hated the first amendment. In fact, the phrase in context is, "And we must work together to tear down the wall of separation, for it was put there by the devil. In Jesus name I write, amen."
Because, you know, when Jefferson wrote:
"I contemplate with solemn reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between Church and State."
...he was really condemning the evil separationists as the heathens they are.
Perhaps Caitlin doesn't know the meaning of the word "reverence". I admit, it's a toughy. However, with a 5th grade education and a little elbow grease, I'm sure we can overcome this obstacle.
Ow. This hurt to read.
Given the abysmal quality of writing found in Caitlin's post, her appearant lack of reading comprehension (Jefferson was against the seperation of church and state? What the fuck? Seriously, people!), and her ignorance of history, I sincerely hope she failed not only the paper, but the class. Hopefully, taking the class a second time, she might actually learn something.
Where to begin? I do think it's not really fair to say the student can't talk about creationism in a presentation, but that's where the agreement ends.
Our forefathers (there were considerably more than four) did not found this country on God (most were deists, actually), they WOULD be appalled to see it today (if only because the enumerated powers given to the federal government have been stretched beyond all recognition - not because of the decline of religion), the exact words "separation of church and state" do not appear but the idea they embody is clearly implied in it, and Jefferson was promoting the idea of separation of church and state. Hell, look back through all of history. When religious leaders begin to meddle in the affairs of the state or kings and presidents in the affairs of the church, both church and state are invariably corrupted.
F for grammar, F for accuracy. Not often you see the double-whammy like that.
I think your "four fathers (sic)" would be "appailed (sic)" to see the shocking level of education their state is providing.
On another note, does it seem to anyone else that getting "saved" is like the new losing-your-virginity to these teenage Jesus fanboys and fangirls?
It's like 'Oh, have you done it yet?' 'Yeah I did it in the hallway at school'
Here's a thought
Work/Time = Power
We all know that Knowledge is Power...
Work/Time = Knowledge
And that Time is Money...
Work/Money = Knowledge
Cross-multiplying, we get...
Work/Knowledge = Money
That's it! That's why there are so many of these people! As knowledge approaces 0, money approaches infinite... so they keep getting money! That's why there are so many fundies! They're being funded (N.P.I.) almost infinitely for their work!
Treaty of Tripoli. In Article 11
"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion; as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion, or tranquillity, of Musselmen; and as the said States never have entered into any war or act of hostility against any Mehomitan nation, it is declared by the parties that no pretext arising from religious opinions shall ever produce an interruption of the harmony existing between the two countries."

<<There's no way around it. Christians are simply stupider on average than persons of the agnostic or atheistic persuasion. >>
What about the Non-Christian religions? Or people who don't follow a religion or believe in a God-like being of sorts?
And don't lump everyone together.
In regards to the topic- I think Caitlin's probably from NC. In my experience, this is the average intelligence of highschool students in North Carolina.
"There's no way around it. Christians are simply stupider on average than persons of the agnostic or atheistic persuasion.
I'm not suggesting that Christianity makes one stupid, rather that it attracts the worst of humanity like a giant bugzapper."
Alternatively, it could be that in an 80% Christian country, 80% of the country would be raised Christian. Based on the growth rate of non-belief in the US (just shy of double in 11 years) a large number of nonbelievers would be former Christians. The people who don't think much/very well are probably most likely to stick with the religion they were raised with. In the case of atheism vs. Christianity, we have the advantage because so many atheists had to be able to rethink their beliefs. Assuming this is the case, we probably have our fair share of idiots as well, and would probably have just as many as Christians if most atheists were born/raised rather than deconverted.
there are more spelling mistakes than mentioned...through instead of threw, for one, s instead of is, seraration instead of separation etc etc....more than 28 either way
Wow. How pathetic. I am just about Caitlin's age, and I, um, happen to employ much better grammar than that. What a nut.
Those poor, persecuted Christians... At 80% of the United States's population, they really ARE a squashed minority. Yeah.
*eye roll*
>>"Is "seraration" a word? It's not red-underlined."
The AHD doesn't recognize it, for what it's worth.<<
Oh, my bad. My word processor must have been set by default to ignore words in all caps, so it probably interpreted "SERARATION" and "AHD" acronyms rather than real words.
"you know why there are so many comments on this one? casue people see a message with a bunch of spelling mistakes and think "O boy, someone else to make fun of!" thats pretty darn sad."
No, we're making fun of the sheer ignorance shown by her... and the fact that she cannot write to save her life.
A bit like the ignorance you've just shown, really...
This girl is fifteen? Goddamn. I may not have always gotten the spelling perfect, but I could form a cogent simple sentence when I was six, and I have the writing samples to prove it.
There should be a rule about not using clauses if you don't understand them.
This girl needs to be in some sort of home.
Hot dang, *everything* in that letter comes up wrong in the spelling and grammar check.
:)
That is hilarious. It's some of the most senseless drivel I've seen in a long time.
Thank you, Caitlin.
I think.
Caitlin hasn't entered the year of her birth in her profile, but I feel certain from reading what she has written that she's quite young; too young to be quoted here, in fact.
I've noticed that many of CF's Christian members not only very much enjoy reading FSTDT, but are also proud of being quoted, but I doubt that any of them are very young girls. Please could you give the younguns a break? I would now hate to have many of the most confident assertions I made at age 20 quoted anywhere at all, and I would have wanted to crawl in a hole and die from embarrassment had I found myself quoted here (much less nominated for an award) at 15.
Plan 9, I think if people message Yahweh to say they don't agree with their own quotes on here any more, and ask him politely to remove them, he will.
And as for her being too young to mock, a lot of people quoted on here I've noticed seem so stupid that mocking them is often cruel, uncool, and uncalled for. But the way they mix in arrogance with their ignorance I feel makes them deserve it :)
Are you sure she's in Arkansas or North Carolina? Because this looks depressingly like the average Californian high school student's writing ability (yes, I live in California, and it wasn't too long ago that I was in high school, so I know very well the kind of horrible crap these kids can spew).
Confused?
