Most modern political philosophers are left-wing. Probably the most influential is John Rawls, as liberal as they come. Care to sift through his work a bit? I'll wait.
Also, it should be noted that it was the Republicans who recently put out a party platform officially opposing the teaching of critical thinking skills in public schools. Now either those Republicans are somehow liberals, or you're full of shit, and I think we all know there hasn't been a liberal Republican in decades.
Lastly: I read articles by conservatives all the time. Great way to prevent overeating, since they make my stomach hurt. Not my head though.

They read EVERYTHING, and if told to read something in particular, they investigate why. (who tells them what to read anyway?)
They tend to be leery of Islam, because it is somewhat authoritarian.

As I'm a socialist, not a liberal (even though I am aware that to these people, everything to the left of Bill O'Reilly is liberal), I don't know whether they read the details or not, but I would guess they do as they mostly seem well-informed.
I love words, and I read a lot, both fiction and non-fiction, and my brain seldom hurts from reading. Watching horrible tent-revival-like political conventions with American politicians tend to make my brain hurt, though.
Nobody has ever told me what to read, beside school work of course. Even when I was young, my parents took us to the library, where we were allowed to pick whatever books we wanted from the children and young-adult room.
I don't particularly like Islam, any more than I like Christianity. They seem pretty similar to me, and none of them seems based in reality. I don't think I have ever met an Imam, and I don't really hate anything, although the feeling for people who deliberately hurt other people, physically, mentally or financially, and people who limit other people's human rights, lies very close to hatred.
I would never hump little boys, I prefer grown-up men, who know what they are doing, and for the last 25 years I have only humped my husband.
