Quote# 93956

If Congress wants to stop these tragedies, then it has to address the government’s own hostility to the institution of the family and organizations that can address the real problem: the human heart. As I’ve said before, America doesn’t need gun control, it needs self-control. And a Congress that actively discourages it–through abortion, family breakdown, sexual liberalism, or religious hostility–is only compounding the problem.

YOU are compounding the problem.

It may also help when the US as a nation would endeavour to cause less people around the world to hate their ass.

The human heart ?

No, fuckwit, actually homosexuals and atheists AREN'T responsible for whackos building and detonating bombs.

No one is hostile to the 'institution of family', we (as Americans and citizens of the same country as yourselves) simply want to be able to decide for ourselves what family is and then either create one (or not) and raise our families as we see fit.

We do not need christians to babysit us, hold our hands or otherwise direct us in making decisions that impact our families or dictate how we raise them. We truly do not need you to guide us or manipulate the law to reflect your own narrow worldview.

If you can't understand that, you are in for a very rude awakening. People are sick of you and the control you have had over our government.

The only ones who are hostile to families are fundies such as... you.

You and your ilk are trying to destroy families that already exist because they don't neatly fit into your own bigoted notions. It is not your place to force your brand of morality on anyone. We don't like your God, we don't like you or you're attempts at making America into a theocracy.

Oh, And it's ironic that the demographic who screams the most about family breakdown also has the highest divorce rate, that is rich!

Shorter version: Blame America.

Mister Spak

We need more guns to kill people who kill people with guns. That will solve the problem.
Then we can shoot doctors to solve the abortion problem.

Every time. Every goddamn time some tragedy occurs, these vultures swoop in to lay the blame on whatever it is that gets their goat. It's a wonder anyone listens to these clowns.

Doubting Thomas

Mass shootings and terrorist attacks are not being done because people are pissed off over abortion.* Nobody is shooting up schools because of the 50% divorce rate. Nobody's planting bombs at public events because people are having sex without being married. While it's true that a lot of Islamic radicals hate America because they see our culture as decadent, they more likely see America as an evil Christian state. But they're not planting bombs because their parents got a divorce or their sister had an abortion.

*Except for those fine, upstanding Christians who shoot abortion doctors or bomb abortion clinics, of course.

The real villain of the piece is Lord Sky Ape. His true purpose is to be an encouragement for those twats who are intent on being jerks by way of developing their self entitlement to the point of narcissistically embracing their own hearts which are mostly located up their own arses right next to their main organ of cognition.

Because everyone knows crazed gunmen or terrorists have all been single mothers, pregnant teens, homosexuals, or atheists.

Nothing like a good shag to make a person feel mindlessly violent....

Problem of the heart? Lets just call in the Care Bears, they can fix that.

Don't know how "self control" has anything to do with Congress and... all those other things. Laws should be made to restrict legal abortion, divorce, and GLBT rights because otherwise people will go bananas with that stuff? But religion gets free reign to do whateves because don't tread on Jesus! Oh, and no gun legislation. Never touch the guns, most important thing!

The Family Research Council is a shit box of intolerance and ignorance so they can go fuck off.

4/25/2013 6:17:21 AM

GigaGuess

Yes. Gun violence is because gays want to marry, and totally not because lunatics can get semi-automatic weapons easier than getting a car.

4/25/2013 6:21:36 AM

dionysus

Or maybe its caused by all of the divisive hatred in this country which, unfortunately, stems from you and your ilk. In many European cultures where there isn't as much public hatred of gays, atheists, and other minorities there are also less such tragedies. Do they still exist? Of course. But we're on a whole different level. Despite being more "righteous" and "holy" than western Europe.

Maybe, if these immigrants had been made to feel welcome and appreciated for their unique experiences and knowledge, they might never have felt the inclination to build bombs. It has very little to do with abortions or gun-control, but with tolerance, respect and inclusiveness.

If America doesn't need gun control, it also doesn't need control of women's fertility.
If people are responsible enough to own guns, then they are definitely responsible enough to decide for themselves when and how often to get pregnant.

A government telling its subjects how their families ought to be, sure isn't promoting self-control...

"Religious hostility" - hmm, that's something the Family Research Council knows how to deploy like nobody else. Perhaps it needs to look at its own dark heart.

First off Adam Lanza learned a lot of his hatred from his mother, whom he killed before going off on his own shooting spree. Although this is an anecdote about what can happen within a family, it refutes your argument that the family is the sole source of having people be good.

But let's back up a little bit. There's a link between testosterone and anger, that much is true. Go without sex for too long and you're going to get angry (or at least, men will. The jury is still out on how this impacts on women). Maybe the solution, if we want people to chill out, then, is more sex, not less....

farpadokly

That's some outside-the-box thinking right there. Me, I never would've connected abortion and guns. But it seems there is a connection. Why, if we outlawed abortion, no one would ever shoot anyone.

4/25/2013 6:56:29 AM

Seeker Lancer

Because it's all of these gays and sexually liberated people who are shooting everyone up!

Your plan to increase self-control is to impose it upon people ? Do you ever stop for a moment and listen to yourself ?

"If Congress wants to stop these tragedies, then it has to address the government’s own hostility to the institution of the family and organizations that can address the real problem: the human heart"

The heart is a blood-pump. Nothing more.

PROTIP: In ancient Egypt, in the process of mummification, the heart - among other important organs - were placed in Canopic Jars; in their culture, the heart was the centre of feeling. The brain was removed through the nose with hooks, and disposed of.

In ancient Japan, the stomach was considered the centre of feeling. Thus - in the process called Seppuku - a Samurai slit open his belly; he was decapitated by another Katana-wielding Samurai.

Better start saying 'Let Jesus into your brain', fundies, or you're gonna commit Seppuku too: and not just metaphorically, due to your own obsession with 'metaphor' (especially Biblical). One word: Perception.

It's that word which ultimately did for you fundies in the last US elections. And not just inside the US, neither.

@rubber chicken

"Your plan to increase self-control is to impose it upon people ? Do you ever stop for a moment and listen to yourself ?"

Apparently not. That word springs to mind again: Perception.

the human heart.

The perfect sacrifice to the Gods, just like the Incas did.

America doesn’t need gun control

It needs a complete ban on bullets.

FRC was doing good up to this point; America doesn’t need gun control, it needs self-control. After that...total fail.
