(Thread title: Atheism: a sign of psychopathy?)

Or is it willful rejection of reality?

The Facts are Atheists are more cold hearted and evil than theists especially christians:
And more likely to commit mass murders, such as shooting up schools.

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/seanthomas/100231060/are-atheists-mentally-ill/

I personally believe their is a link between Atheism and mentally illness, through it would be a stretch to say psychopathy as a large percentage of Atheists are capable of acting like normal people. Which Psychopaths can't do. How ever Atheists are more likely to have a skewed moral compass making them more likely to shoot up schools etc...

Do you, by any chance, have a Ph.D. in psychology? If not, GTFO.

"Or is it willful rejection of reality?"

The irony in this one question alone is staggering.

A skewed moral compass? I'm not the one following a god that advocates murder, slavery and forcing a rape victim to marry her rapist. My moral compass tells is such that I think it is immoral to own another human as property. Your god gives instructions on how to purchase, own, sell and pass to your children as an inheritance another human owned as property.

Here's what's not only likely but absolutely provable.

After a mass killing like Sandy Hook or the Aurora theatre incidents, the Fundy blogs, radio/internet shows will be calling the perp an Atheist ASAP, well before the news identifies the killer. They will shamelessly use any tragedy to start and continue the lie.

I've looked into these events and in several cases so much Atheist blaming was making the circuit that the police had to include in their statements that (as in the two cases above)that the killers were raised Christian and STILL had church ties.

I've got a feeling that they know most horrendous acts like these stem from their own Old Testament injustice and lack of empathy indoctrination. That they are raising these overly judgemental and Righteous God-Warriors so they're really quick to divert blame to Atheism or Liberal secularism.

It took me weeks on both these cases to see any info realeased that would indicate what type of person would do such a thing, I reserved speculation until then (the Sandy Hook killer had a long history of mental illness so I don't blame his religious upbringing, except to note it didn't help) I wish your lot would also do this. STOP LIEING.

Also note, long after the events with the facts in, they continue the lie.

Doubting Thomas

As a humanist, I put high value on life, unlike Christians who often approve of bombing countries full of brown people with oil.

BTW, Timothy McVeigh was a Christian terrorist who specifically blew up the federal building because of his screwed up beliefs in Christian Identity.

Scott Roeder specifically shot Dr. George Tiller because of his Christian belief that abortion is murder. So did Shelly Shannon years earlier.

Eric Rudolph planted bombs at the Olympics in Atlanta, GA as well as several abortion clinics. All because of his religious beliefs.

Remember Jim Jones? Do you really want to bring up mental illness?

I could go on and on, but what's the point? Christians will always get a free pass or have the "not a true Christian" card played whenever they do something wrong, but on the off chance one atheist does something bad then all atheists are immoral and evil.

The Crusades, the Inquisition, everything the explicitly insane Ivan the Terrible ever did to earn his nickname, witch hunts (which continue to modern times) and burnings, Westboro Baptist Church, Native American residential schools, and moving away from Christianity there is of course the Taliban and radical Islam being used to justify terrorism, habitual rape, and various other crimes against humanity.

But of course, none of these people are crazy; they're just doing God's work.

"reality"

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

'personally believe their is a link between Atheism and mentally illness, through it would be a stretch to say psychopathy as a large percentage of Atheists are capable of acting like normal people. Which Psychopaths can't do. How ever Atheists are more likely to have a skewed moral compass making them more likely to shoot up schools etc', you say...?

Schools were being shot to shit way before Atheism was so much a fringe philosophy in the US, was it not...?

Japan. Shinto/Zen Buddhist. Anti-gun laws far more draconian than post-Dunblane UK. No school shootings there. Explain?

'Facts are Atheists are more cold hearted and evil than theists especially christians', eh? Timothy McVeigh. Eric Robert Rudolph. Scott Roeder. Explain II. I can. After all, you cannot spell 'Fundamentalist' without the word Mental.

So I must be fucking up somewhere, re. my 'skewed moral compass', eh IW?! [/hyper-sarcasm] Oh yes, that's right: I prefer the GPS of superior Atheist morals, using the relativity of 'I wouldn't want to be killed/raped/harmed, nor would I want my property stolen/damaged, so why should I do the same to others?', based on the core programming of the Wiccan Rede: 'An it harm none, do what thou wilt'.

'Fundamentalist Christianity' indeed.
Your own 'morality' based on the worst hyper-psycho schizoid loony amoral nutpop out there.

Please don't imply that mental illness is the same thing as committing violence as the vast majority of mentally ill people are more dangerous to themselves than other people. k?

Citations? Who needs citations? When vilifying a group you hate procuring data from your colon is just as good as (if not better than) having citations.

Since the vast majority of those who perpetrate mass shootings are anti-social; it is unlikely that they would attend a large church. They become radicalized in isolation or as part of a very small fringe group or society. It's rather pointless to even consider how dogmatic the perpetrator is in most cases because it's a virtual certainty that any dogma the perpetrator may follow is warped beyond any fair description of most religions. Wait...

I just remembered that I was trying to make a logical reply to an utterly insane concept. What I meant to say is "bollocks".

Swede

So, it's the ones who refuse to believe in magical beings, despite complete lack of evidence, are the ones who are willfully rejecting reality? Must be opposite day again...

Sweden is one of the least religious countries in the world. We have never had a school shooting. We accept more refugees from Syria than most other European country do. We had a society based on solidarity and sharing (until the current right-wing government (including the Christian Democrats) started copying a lot of the things that are bad in the American society). Are these proof of our coldheartedness and evilness, and our skewed moral compass?

"Or is it wilful rejection of reality?"

The irony of it. We don't believe in an invisible man for whose existence, there is not a single scrap of verifiable evidence, but we're the ones rejecting reality.

Citation needed. Especially with history where people were killed for not being Christian, and not being the right kind of Christian.

12/6/2013 11:16:05 AM

That blog he links to as evidence? Nice how the only links the blog gives don't back up what the blog claims, and the studies it refers to by place/subject/year either don't exist, or don't say a fucking thing about either religion or atheism...

I love it when people believe any old crap simply because it matches when they already believe...

How many atheists have killed their children because they didn't believe in modern medicine--and still refuse to admit their guilt?

Personally, I believe there is a link between consideration others' points of view and the ability to express yourself coherently.

Meanwhile, in reality, atheists are reviled by psychopaths and other religious nutters for being impervious to their lame gibberish and other insane delusions, thereby causing much wah! wah! and boo hoo! among the dull witted twits.

That headline should say "religious belief. A sign of schizophrenia? Or a willful rejection of reality?" Between this quote and the one about other countries needing to adopt Christianity to lower their crime rates, I'm starting to dislike this guy.

NO! I'M NOT AN IMMORAL RAPING MURDERING SOCIOPATH! I HAVE MORALS! I WOULDN'T KILL A PERSON! I FEEL GUILTY OVER KILLING CHARACTERS IN FUCKING VIDEO GAMES!

Christ almighty, I wish they'd stop saying I have no morals. It is very, VERY annoying. And makes me REALLY want to hit them. (I may have morals, but that doesn't stop me wanting to hit morons in the face multiple times)
