The police arrested Ernest Willis, 51, of Gilford, last week in connection with the case, accusing him of raping the [15-years-old] girl twice - once in the back seat of a car he was teaching her to drive in and again after showing up at her Concord home while her parents were away. He was charged with four felonies - two counts of rape and two counts of having sex with a minor, court records show.
[...]
The victim [Tina Anderson] said Phelps told her she would be put up for 'church discipline,' where parishioners go before the congregation to apologize for their sins.
She asked why. 'Pastor Phelps then said that (Willis) may have been 99 percent responsible, but I needed to confess my 1 percent guilt in the situation ,' the victim told the police.
'He told me that I should be happy that I didn't live in Old Testament times because I would have been stoned .'

Sadly, it's not a Poe.
You could see here other sheningans from this church - including an earlier sex assault incident by another adult where she was made actually to visit her victimizer in prison.
Let's bring the stones, the gasoline and the rope for the lynch mob.
EDIT:
-Deleted "by these poster boys for Lynch's law and mob justice." situated at the end of the main paragraph;
-Added last line.
A few years ago, Louis Theroux made a sequel documentary to his original one : "The Most Hated Family in Crisis", in which he revisited the Westboro Baptist Church - and discovered the usual solid facade of ol' Fred, Shirley & co. was falling apart; some members had left .
And considering this incident, it's not difficult to see why .
PROTIP: Even before Theroux's first documentary, Keith Allen did one about them, in which Shirley admitted on camera that her first child was born out of wedlock. Ah, feel that Christian hypocrisy .
In Soviet Topeka, God hates you Fred & co.
Any church that controls the movements of the flock should be under investigation, none of that immunity within religious convictions. These places operate for years, decades then it all comes out.
I realize the laws allow people to give themselves over to slavery but deep investigations into the leaders usually show they should have been arrested years before.
That´s not even true. The worst scenario was that she would have to marry him but not actually live with him if she didn´t wish to. Oh, and HE COULDN´T REPUDIATE HER. What an asshole, and a liar to boot.
Chuck Phelps has been accused to cover-up another rape by saying to the victim Cheryl to "forgive and forget".
Apparently treating rape victim as garbage at the Trinity Baptist Church passes for a divine command.
As for the positive news:
-Ernest Willis's conviction to 15-to-30 years has been recently upheld by the N.H. Supreme Court - hope he is getting some prison payback right now;
-The plan, by Bob Jones University, to nominate Rev. Phelps, former alumni, on the Board of Trustees has been thwarted by protests from the student corps - giving him more free time for reading Matthew 18:6 and the bit about children, a millstone and the sea.
EDIT:
-Replaced "will get some prison payback" by "is getting some prison payback right now".
"The victim [Tina Anderson] said Phelps told her she would be put up for 'church discipline,' where parishioners go before the congregation to apologize for their sins."
I hope Willis and the pastor go here after what they did to the girl.
Forget about biblical times. She should be happy that she does not live in a fundie Muslim country TODAY, or she would be stoned.
Perhaps her sin was not packing a gun and blowing the bastard's head off the FIRST time he tried to rape her.
They teach their women to be submissive to men and respectful of their elders then punish them for not having the tools to ward off such advancements. Non fundie 15 year old? Knee to the nuts asshole, and this will not be a secret.
In fact their insistance the victim carries blame, in front of the flock is a pre-emptive defense against procecution, reinforceing the cults power over her flock and setting up the concept she was willing and complicant.
Glad to see this one came to a conviction, most these offenders walk free when church affiliated.

You'll be the first against the wall when the revolution starts, monster.
If you want to kill him, don't use a firing squad.
Lingchi, being hanged, drawn and quartered or apremature burial are better.
Else you can still send him to Hepzibah House for the term of his natural life.
Myself, if I had him in front of me, New Hampshire would have to hang me for violating the RSA 630:1 with the circimstance given by the 630:5 VII(h)
Victim blaming, now ingrained into the structure of religious institutions.
How can Phelps and his ilk still claim that they are morally superior to everyone when they keep pulling crap like this?
image
You blamed them for their own rape, made them "Confess" for their "Part" in the rape happening, then claim God approves? What the... pardon my Google Translate, but où la baise avez-vous cette idée?
Also, glowy eyes Peter Gabriel disapproves of your bullshit, Phelps.
Tina is, of course, guilty of being born a woman. BAD her!!!
The pastor is right about the Old Testament; it's every bit as gruesome as Sharia Laws.
How is she guilty? WHAT EXACTLY MAKES HER GUILTY!?
Loosing her virginity?!!!!!
Where the hell in my bible does it say that? There was a piece in it where there was some raping, and it never mentioned 'and then we punished the raped'
Where the hell in my bible does it say that? There was a piece in it where there was some raping, and it never mentioned 'and then we punished the raped'
Not...exactly true.
If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days. -- Deuteronomy 22:28-29
Not quite. She's 15, so she's probably not engaged to anyone. According to "The Good Book," she'd only be stoned if she was betrothed but didn't scream bloody murder in a city. If she wasn't married or engaged, then she'd probably have to marry him. Yahweh's Word also says that you must chop a woman's hand off if she seizes a man's genitals while trying to defend her husband from the attacker, and prescribes stoning as discipline for disobedient children, so we should probably take it less seriously by now.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
