Today, [IL candidate for Congress] Ian Bayne called Phil Robertson, star of the A&E series “Duck Dynasty,” the ‘Rosa Parks’ of our generation.
“In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians,” said Bayne.
Parks, famous for refusing to give up her seat on a bus for a white person, as was the rule of her day, provided inspiration for a movement of equality of black people and white people in America.
“What Parks did was courageous,” said Bayne. “What Mr. Robertson did was courageous too.”
Bayne believes that the Duck Dynasty star knew that going on GQ would result in the current controversy going on surrounding his suspension, as well as his suspension.
Bayne added that this exposure of Robertson’s situation is an eye opener for many who may have been previously in disbelief that the bible is fast becoming considered “hate speech” by the media and society.

I know all fundies love to see themselves as "persecuted", and normally I just laugh it off, but when they try to align themselves with true persecution victims, it's just appalling and offensive. Grow up and get over yourselves people.
News flash: most of the attitudes embedded in the Bible *are* hate speech by today's standards. Killing disobedient children, killing adulterers, killing homosexuals, and killing rival tribes to take their women are generally frowned upon at the dawn of the third millennium CE.
No one has a right to not be offended. No one has a right to use somebody else's media channel to offend people, either. That A&E caved so quickly is a testimony to the power of ratings to sweep aside principles.
Oh no, you didn't go there, did you? Phil whatshisname is the very opposite of Rosa Parks, asshole! He's like PW Botha, Vladimir Putin, Nikolaos Michaloliakos, János Áder. He took a stand against progress, tolerance and respect, and he spouted hatred at a persecuted minority group.
Christians are neither a minority, nor persecuted, in the US. Go to Saudi Arabia, Iraq or Afghanistan, Ian, if you want to experience real persecution of Christians.
Like someone else here said: "Is it persecution of Jews, when Christians are allowed to eat bacon?".
No? Then it's not persecution of Christians, when gays are allowed equality.
There's one significant difference Ian: Unlike Rosa Parks, Robertson is on the losing side of history.
That being said, leaders among the conservative movement have acknowledged the difficulty they have in attracting members of racial and ethnic minorities. Do you think that comparing Phil Robertson to Rosa Parks is going to help that situation? If you do then, well, let's just say that your being on the losing side of history will be a distinction you have well and truly earned.
Next Bayne will advocate eliminating the Qu'uran because it promotes "hate speech" and not see the inconsistency.
@Anubisdevil -- the Romans were very accepting of multiple religions. The reason Christians were persecuted is because they were insisting that only Christianity should be allowed. Kind of like today.
Phil Robertson, star of the A&E series “Duck Dynasty,” the Rosa Parks’ of our generation
So now all it takes to be Rosa Parks is to be any random jackass with a stupid opinion? I think conservatives are made of literal shit. I'm Rosa Parks!
Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians
If you consider being anti-gay to be the only important tenet of Christianity. How much do you want to bet that most of the people working at A&E (like most of the people in the country) are Christian and simply don't want their network associated with hate (because in their opinion it affects the bottom line). Besides I'd bet my year's salary you're one of those "right to work" people who also want companies to be able to fire gay employees if homosexuality is against the owner's beliefs.
“What Parks did was courageous,” said Bayne. “What Mr. Robertson did was courageous too.”
Championing human sacrifice would also be a courageous stance to take. Simply having the courage to stand against the majority of people does not automatically make your stance right.
Robertson’s situation is an eye opener for many who may have been previously in disbelief that the bible is fast becoming considered “hate speech” by the media and society
I would have hoped people would have realized that the bible is full of hate and horror BEFORE some nobody on TV opened his big mouth. Sadly, I know my hopes are in vain because very few people actually read the Bible.

After all the racist, homophobic things this guy said... Rosa Parks? Seriously? It's always gross and sad when US Christians whine that they're soooo persecuted, but this is a special kind of disgusting.
“In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people , and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians,” said Bayne.
Wait, I'm confused. I thought Mr Robertson told us that there was no "unjust societal persecution of black people" ? Then what was Rosa Parks taking a stand against? And if she hadn't anything to take a stand against, why would Robertson similar to her?
FFS, Rosa put her self at risk of being put into jail by her actions. She was in direct violation of a a law (an immoral law).
Phil did not break any laws, was not at risk of losing his liberties by being sent to jail. All that happened was he voiced an opinion and his employer suspended him for a very short time.
No comparison at all. Rosa was a hero, Phil is a douche bag.
Oh, no, no, no, Kuno - Robertson said blacks were all happy "before entitlements and welfare." And thus also before the Civil Rights movement, which every good goat-fucking inbred swamp-dweller knows was instigated by "outside agitators," buncha Yankee college kid Commies. See, whatever discrimination and persecution existed was only an unavoidable reaction to that provocation. Them interferin' carpetbaggers made the nice boys in the Mlan do those awful things! Why, they even instigated formerly cheerful and compliant people of color to smash their heads into billy clubs and ax handles that perfectly innocent bystanding whites just happened to be holding, and to assault hapless police dogs by sticking their appendages into the dogs' mouths!
Every time a politician in my state says or does something that's actually good for humanity, another one says or does something incredibly stupid.
Oh well, I'm content in the knowledge that despite much of Illinois being a pretty red state, Chicago's overwhelming democrat and progressive majorities keep idiots like this from getting too much power.
You are right, Ms. Parks was courageous for standing up to injustice. Robertson took a stand against homosexuality based on a bigoted opinion and backed by the Bible. You do not know persecution. It does not mean others have the same rights you do. Quite the opposite. In essence you insulted Ms. Parks and what she suffered to stand against.
Yes yes, just like Rosa Pars, Phil Robertson had the courage to stand up to the ''horrible'' social injustice of allowing gay people to be together.
He proudly stands for the rights of the gays-are-icky crowd.
"Bayne believes that the Duck Dynasty star knew that going on GQ would result in the current controversy going on surrounding his suspension, as well as his suspension."
I've watched enough of that show to know these people don't have ANY concept of what will happen if they do something. They're all a bunch of stupid spoiled kids. A&E merely turns the cameras on after setting up some stupid premise and can use less than 10% of anything that occurs. Even what's used is staggering mundane and stupid nonsense.
That simple is seen as wise, bragging of nonexistant skills, fictional past, overbuilt egos as humbleness, and bitching about everything with everyone all day as Family Values,,,,It's no damn wonder the South is fucked and continually votes in loud-mouthed stupid racist garbage to high office.
I think it's funny to that all them long-haired hippies were the scum that the South needed to clean up, whip into service but now they love the "individualism" of the Robertsons.
60 years ago, you'd have been one of the ones calling for Parks to be lynched.
Now you lot claim her as one of your own because it's convenient.
@ Tempus
They've done it with Martin Luther King Jr. Why not Rosa Parks?
And, 40 years after marriage equality becomes the law of the land, they'll be pointing to GOProud and the Log Cabin Republicans to prove that it was the conservatives who were the champions of marriage equality.
do not claim you are being prosecuted you piece of privileged shit. For over 1000 fucking years if people didn't believe in YOUR beliefs, in YOUR laws, they were raped and MURDERED. Don't you fucking act like you're the scapegoat of the world.
Confused?
