<< Again with this site.. how are all of you?
I have no excuses this time, so I'll just reply. Science =/= Evolutionary theory. Science has done much, no arguing that, but has the theory of evolution really improved your lives? I'm interested in your responses. Something more interesting than telling me to kill myself or insulting me or my ignorance of science. >>
Uyru Ishida: The contempt we've shown is well earned when you are so deliberately and willfully ignorant in the face of mountains of evidence.
And I can hardly believe you have the temerity to ask, "has the theory of evolution really improved your lives?"! Egad, man, how many references to antibiotic-resistant bacteria do you need? Let me spell this out: Bacteria populations evolve resistance to specific antibiotics if not wiped out completely by them, and recognition of this has enabled us to come up with better antibiotic therapies with which to treat diseases. The fact that you're alive today is quite possibly due in part to such discoveries.
And that's just one example. The fact that humans are evolutionarily related to other mammals, especially other primates, also greatly facilitates medical research that directly benefits billions of people every year, including YOU. If it weren't for that biological connection, animals would be useless as test subjects for drugs and myriad other products.
Finally, if nothing else, the cumulative knowledge pushing back ignorance does have a beneficial effect overall as different ideas connect with each other, such as the application of evolutionary theory in computer programs to run simulations; even if it were completely mistaken for biology, it has proved its usefulness there for many people directly, and for society at large indirectly.
On top of all that, just knowing the facts about things is just a good idea in general, even when there isn't a direct practical application of it -- replacement of ignorance and superstition with evidence and knowledge is ALWAYS a good thing, if only because we might stop doing something particularly stupid that we didn't know was a bad idea. Some people inevitably cling to certain outmoded ideas, such as astrology or creationism, but at least those ideas lose some of their hold on us collectively.
Now, let's turn that around: What has the dogma of creationism done to improve people's lives? A darn sight less than evolutionary theory, that's for certain! If anything, it has had only a negative impact, not a positive one. Let go of ignorance, superstition, and childhood fables. Learn about the real world and how it actually works. Believe me, there's wonder aplenty to be found in that.
