[another logical YEC explanation for stars' being billions of light-years away]
That's because astronomers erroneously assume that the light which the stars reflect is the light from the sun. They then base their calculations on that. But read the 2nd paragraph in Genesis and you'll notice that God created light before he created the sun. So guess which light the stars are reflecting? ;)

Dr. Major, not only are stars black body radiators, ie you can estimate their temperature by their peak emission; but also they have spectral lines that determine how much of which element is present. One star has so much sulfur in it, that is is called the Rotten Egg Nebula!
Carico doesn't produce quite as many science-atrocity gems as dad or JohnR7, but they're easily just as potent when she does. It is hard to be much more wrong than this about astronomy. What's most annoying about that is that I was better informed about this stuff when I was 6 years old! That Carico can be ignorant enough to even have this kind of viewpoint boggles the mind.

MK, I don't think such an award would be appropriate, because I don't think it is possible to get any worse at science than that shown in posts by JohnR7. However, this certainly is right up there with it: stars reflecting light that was created before the sun, and concluding that this model reduces the size of the universe instead of, as it actually implies, doubling it -- wild!
"Fundie Science Expert" Award would be appropriate, however, and I hereby nominate the post for that "honor."

"That's because astronomers erroneously assume that the light which the stars reflect is the light from the sun. They then base their calculations on that. "
No they don't
"But read the 2nd paragraph in Genesis and you'll notice that God created light before he created the sun."
And later on, God created the stars after the sun. Genesis may have been a good guess for the ancients but it is still way off.
"So guess which light the stars are reflecting?"
Like the star closest to us, the sun, the stars are not reflecting any light.

My clue meter just hit a new low. I'm not sure merely calling this "wrong" would do it justice.
Stars don't reflect light, they produce light via fusion.
It constantly occurs to me how my understanding of science at 6 years old seems so advanced compared to these Fundy postings. How did they ever graduate from 6th grade?!!
Ditto. Then again, I wasn't raised in a household that thought science was the devil (thank the nonexistent God for that).
Since when do stars reflect light?
Since always. Not in the way the fundie idiot thinks, but reflect it they do. Obviously, the reflected light is drowned out by stars' own vast light production, but it is measurable by today's most sensitive instruments. You can read about this at jpl.nasa.gov.
Does the bulb in my lamp also reflect light...?
Of course it does. Why wouldn't it? Just because the bulb itself is a bright object, should it absorb all external sources of light? As far as we undestand it, Black Holes are the only known objects which do not reflect light.
How some people manage to access the Interent without doing themselves serious bodily harm is a source of constant wonder to me.
Yet people like Carico use electrical appliances every day, they drive and they vote.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
