I've known people who were raised in that sort of environment, where they were born with a disorder. One was mental, one was physical. They were borderline neglected, and showed all the signs of being unloved and resented.
One was almost taken away by CPS, but the family managed to hang on to her. The other, I heard after I moved away, committed suicide. And the family just laid that on the dead kid, too. From what I heard, they had more of a "good riddance" attitude than anything else.
These sort of people make me sick to read about, and even more sick to be anywhere near. These are the very same people who informed me that my gap in my teeth was a sign that I was evil devil-spawn and was going to hell.
Fortunately, not all Christians are like that. My father isn't. Most of my family isn't. (My mother treads disturbingly close to the line, and as far as I know, I'm the only one she's crossed it with). I don't know what makes these people this way, but it is sickening and infuriating.
Worst part is: I'd say it's VERY un-Christian-like behaviour that has become acceptable in certain communities as Christian.
aargh....gone on too long. /rant
