(Supersport's take on nationalized medicine and charity)

I'm not against helping people who truly need help. The problem is there is no such thing as a "free" anything. I don't know about your country but THIS country promises its citizens JUSTICE. Justice means you get out of life what you put into it....in otherwords no free lunches.

I don't believe in free lunches unless you are starving. If you are starving you should not look to the government. There are thousands churches in this country that will feed you directly or point you to the food banks they stock. Then after you get some food in your stomach you can GO GET A *******G JOB!!!

Let's see.
1. Social justice in most civilised countries means you aren't disadvantaged from receiving essential services such as healthcare simply due to your socio-economic status (which is often purely an accident of birth or other circumstances beyond the individual's control). 2. I don't have firm statistics so I won't say most people, but MANY people who need welfare DO have jobs. It's just they receive such shitty pay that they can't reasonably support themselves or their family. This is mainly due to arseholes like you who want to cut or remove the minimum wage and strip them of whatever other entitlements they can. So they'll end up working three jobs and still not be able to send their children to a doctor when they're sick. 3. You are completely ignorant of whatever circumstances may surround an individual's unemployed status. The vast majority of them would gladly work. 4. Charity from most churches is just a joke as they're too worried about fancy services and giving their pastors comfy salaries. The government is far more qualified to provide nationally co-ordinated and non-discriminatory welfare anyway.

Lots of people on wellfare do have jobs, sometimes several. We ought to remove the "minimum wage", wich is often just a random number pulled out of a hat, and replace it with "living wage" instead.

"Living wage is a term used to describe the minimum hourly wage necessary for shelter (housing and incidentals such as clothing and other basic needs) and nutrition for a person for an extended period of time (lifetime). [... T]his standard generally means that a person working forty hours a week, with no additional income, should be able to afford a specified quality or quantity of housing, food, utilities, transport, health care, and recreation."

According to Wikipedia, this is a Christian concept, formulated in 1891 by Pope Leo XIII.

So, you have nothing against your taxes maintaining your police, fire departments, coastguard, armed forces, roadbuilding, armed forces etc. But the dreaded words 'Universal Healthcare' are spoken, and you shit not only bricks but your whole selves inside out! Let me spell it out to you, Stuporsport...:

If the health of a country's population is maintained, then more people are in work, contributing to it's economic health. If healthcare is restricted to only those who can pay for the hospitals' exhorbitant fees, then, you've got a hell of a lot of sick, infirm, and dying people. Who can't work. Who can't pay tax. Who certainly can't pay for medical insurance. And the whole country suffers. Ergo, the need for socialised medicine.

Most of Europe have been doing that for decades. We in the UK have had the National Health Service since the late 1940s. We're still here.

Cuba spends as much on healthcare as on the military. Just about everyone there gets free healthcare. And their medical research is right up there with the USA's.

So the next time you get toothache, I'm suuuure your local church will be able to treat you. By laying on of hands, amirite?
