Plate tectonics are a man made ideaand geologist use it to try and prove that the earth is millions and millions of years old. It's not. The bible says it is only 6,000 years old and if the bible says it I believe it.

Only, the problem is, depending on which fundy to talk to, the age of the earth is either 10,000 years, 8,000 years, 6,000 years or 4,000 years--none of which are in the babble or align with the "begats" or correctly interpret the Hebrew calendar (i.e. Year One is just the first year of the calendar--it never claims to be the 1st day of creation).
You people are just making this stuff up out of whole cloth. N00bs, as they say.
Measurable plate movement is 'man made' idea?
BTW, the earth is millions and millions of years old. Try reading something else that wasn't written by highly superstitious desert dwellers who did the 40 days and 40 nights in the desert to get visions.
No! plate tectonics is not used to prove that the earth is billions of years old. That would be radiometric dating.
Seriously, don't these people ever studi anything.
Even if the Earth were 6000 years old that has nothing to do with plate tectonics. Now, granted, one of the main sources of evidence for plate tectonics is the fact that there similar fossils in South America and Africa, that come from the same strata. But God could just have easily made the plates move, even if he created the Earth.
Wrong! Plate tectonics is used to explain earthquakes at fault boundaries, volcanism at subduction zones, island arcs, and hot spots, and why some places like Hawaii are moving over a hot spot. Sea-floor spreading proves that the Americas are moving away fom Europe and Africa. Most of this movement happens about as fast as your fingernails grow. So, no the Loma Prieta quake, the Indian Ocean tsunami, and Mt. St. Helens were not caused by an angry God, but by movements in the Earth's crust.
So earthquakes are what then.....
The great turtle moving?
The carp the world sits on shaking it's tail?
The earth farting?
And I think PTK was a complete idiot. These are a year old and he only ever made 16 posts on RR. Don't think he was a Poe though, just to fundie for even those nut jobs. Maybe it was AV trying to move in.
"Plate tectonics are a man made idea [...]"
No shit. Just like all the other ideas.
"and geologist use it to try and prove that the earth is millions and millions of years old."
Not quite pal.
"It's not. The bible says it is only 6,000 years old and if the bible says it I believe it."
And you're quite welcome to believe any damned fool thing you'd like to. Just don't expect the rest of us to agree with you.
"Why is this incredibly absurd tidbit of information an undeniable fact?
Well, it is because

That sounds like an excellent grounds for what reality is, in my humble opinion.
And the fact that America is separating from Britain at a rate of a few centimetres a year (and if people like you continue to breed it won't be fast enough), which is measurable, doesn't concern you?
Plate tectonics are directly observable. The quake that caused the Indian Ocean tsunami gave the island of Sumatra quite a shove -- something like 100 feet, IIRC.
There's a gigantic wet region under China. Only makes sense if it's associated with ancient ocean floor.
There's a huge ragged slab of something in the mantle under North America. It's cooler and transmits shockwaves differently than the rock around it. Scientists believe it's Jurassic-era oceanic crust. If it's not that, why is it even there in the first place?
There's a big hole in the crust under the North Atlantic. Why?
This guy's lucky he wasn't given the illustrated Bible I'd used the year before in school Religion class. The one with a biro doctored picture of Jesus wearing Ozzy Osbourne style sunglasses, smoking a large joint, sticking his thumbs into a man's eyes and saying 'Take THAT you bearded prick!' as blood spurted out all over the place.
The post leading to the quoted post is fstdt-worthy, too:
"I believe it's [hell] in the heart of the earth. I suspect that earthquakes happen because hell is enlarging itself. But's that's my opinion."
Yeah, I guess those GPS-based measurements we've been taking of actual continental drift are just a big geologist conspiracy.
EDIT: Oh, wait, lemme guess. The continental-drift measurements we've been making over the last century are just MICROtectonics. Because nobody's ever seen a dog give birth to a lava flow, you can comfortably deny the existence of MACROtectonics.
Right?
except the bible DOESNT say the world is 6000 years old.
maybe your pastor does. so you take the word of man over the word of men who actually know what the fuck they are talking about?
and you take his word for it because you believe he speaks for an invisible man who is all powerful but still needed to have his son killed as a sacrifice to himself for reasons that are not entirely clear?
you shouldnt smoke so much crack, its bad for you.
Im a devout Christian, go ahead and take a bible, either mine or yours, and show me WHERE THE HECK IT SAYS 6000 YEARS!!!!!!
Where? What verse says that the earth is 6000 years old. Don't point me to the begats. I'll wait...
Oh and while your there, point me out where lucifer rebels against God or where satan is actually described as a bad guy...
Just for fun: Pretend that in Job that God is in management and that satan is his golfing buddy.
Satan: Betcha' can't hit that ball boy.
God: How much?
Satan: Nothing.
God: Sounds good to me. (takes aim and swings)

Clicking on the quote link, it says 'No thread specified'. I wonder why...?
A nomination for the 'Too Stupid for even Ruptured Retards' award, anyone?
Religion is a man made ideaand fundies use it to try and prove that the earth is 6,000 years old. It's not. If all kinds of scientific evidence shows via multiple measurement methods that the earth is about 4.5 billion years old, I will accept this evidence.
Confused?
