[About this comic:]

The difference between atheists and theists is on the "why" not the "how". Religious people know full well that scattered light causes the sky to appear blue, in fact, theistic scientists originally came up with the idea. A fairer, more logical cartoon would have the Atheist dad replying "The sky is blue, just cause it is"

Look, fundies, how many times do I have to explain it: If a theistic scientist discovers something unrelated to religion, that's great, it doesn't prove the existence of God.
Also, Cectic (the comic) is really good.
No the difference between a theist and an atheist is that theists only care about the who, even if there is no who.
Where did the world come from?
God did it.
Why is the sky blue?
God did it.
What causes earthquakes?
God does it.
Theists answers are basically content free answers, because they don't give you any useful knowledge and they don't help you understand why the Universe works. Why did God make the world and how did he do it? Answer me that theists.
"A fairer, more logical cartoon would have the Atheist dad replying 'The sky is blue, just cause it is'"
But isn't that basically just what "Goddidit" amounts to? Who ever came up with the original scientific explanation is not pertinent to the basic premise of the comic: that atheists explain their world through natural, scientific phenomenon and SOME among the religious community will settle for "Goddidit" instead.
ROFL!! As IF all atheists are a)intellectuals b)possess a scientifically endowed vocabulary. What cracks me up is if atheists think, hey we live, we die...why on earth do they care so much about science anyway?

Because it's nice to be able to comprehend and understand how the universe works while we're here. It's also useful for making the lives of our fellow human beings, both those currently alive with us and those in the future, a better place.
You didn't think that question through too deeply, did ya?
Hmm... No, sorry, I can't picture ANY theist saying that, especially one who has their nose in a Bible all day. I doubt the Bible says the scientific reason for anything at all. Everything is "just cause it is" and God made it so.
(heh--and I just realized that the Atheist dad has a friar or monk hair cut... irony is blessed :P)
Some cranky little segment of my brains does agree that the generalizing is a bit too broad, because most theists DO understand that the sky being blue is scientific in nature.
I say "most" because there are idiots who really do believe that the sky is blue because God, apparently, really likes blue.
The rest of the comment, though, is so full of bollocks that I feel like laughing and rubbing the comic in his face out of spite.
Someone got their asses hurt it seems.
He told in detail why sky is blue, but these retards didn't even understand what atheist dad was talking about.
-Dad, why is the sky blue?
-God made it that way.
-Dad, what causes lightning?
-God.
-Dad, is it possible to cure cancer sometime in the future?
-No, we can only pray for God to cure cancer.
-Dad, can we stop global warming? What can we do for the environment?
-Nothing. We are at the end-times and Jesus will return soon, so we can do nothing to stop it.
-Dad, in school, the teachers don't say anything about God in science classes, and they are much better at answering questions than you are.
-BE SILENT! do not EVER doubt that which is the word of the almighty God!
Religious people know full well that scattered light causes the sky to appear blue eh? Then, why did it take SCIENCE to figure that out and explain it to them? My atheist dad didn't know why the sky was blue so we went to the library (it's a big building with lots of different books in it) and looked it up. So, I suppose, unless the atheist dad was really really lazy (or he was talking to a four year old who asked a million questions per second) he's probably try to give a decent answer rather than "just 'cause it is." Either way, I prefer anything an atheist dad would say over "goddidit"
It's generalizing of course. The agnostic could very well gave any of those answers and "ask your mother" could be because she knows more. I know, overthinking it.
The belief that all scientific knowledge comes from Theists is true fundie brainwashing
You only say that because the bible doesn't give an alternative explanation for the appearance of the sky. Fundies are perfectly happy to follow scientific thought, and can be entirely competent at it, as long as it doesn't contradict their religion. As soon as it does, they utterly reject it.
There is no "why." There is no purpose for the sky being blue. It is because the net result of billions of years of natural forces acting on particles resulted in this planet with an atmosphere that scatters blue wavelengths of light.
This explanation is not the same as saying "just cause it is." You just want our explanations to sound as lame as your "God did it." Not going to work, sorry.
Confused?
