Are there any athiest that have gone to church and know the Word and yet deny it still?
Because from what I can see on YA, the athiest are athiest because they simply do not KNOW the Word. Little understanding.

Then you know a lot of wrong stuff, s many people became atheists just because they lookes closer at the word of god and really read the bible instead of only a few passages, selected by your preachers. ;)

How do you know if you haven´t studied other religions as well. Maybe you are christian and no buddhist because you just don´t know the buddhist scriptures ;)
The 'Word' is the best way to recruit atheists.
The Book of Genesis, for example, is clearly nonsense from start to finish. Most of Leviticus is completely irrelevant to anyone other than bronze age nomadic goatherds. The Book of Joshua, hate-fueled vengeance fantasy from end to end. I defy anyone to find any 'good' in the Book of Job. Endless books of imagined histories no more true than the genealogies appendixed to 'The Lord of the Rings'. Third-hand stories of miracles, written generations after they supposedly happened. Five conflicting accounts of the resurrection. The fundie favorite Revelation: pure psychotic fantasy.
Get my drift?
74 years old. Doctor of Theology, translator of ancient scripts and texts, archeologist.
51 years a dedicated christian and now in my 23rd year of being an atheist.
I've lived under Adolf Hitler, Josef Stalin and several US Presidents.
The worst enemy of christianity is the christians.
As for god - there are over 2500 of them - all "one true", "all-powerful", "all-seeing" - and ALL man-made.
Oh, me! Right here! Spent the first half of my short life at a pentecostal, rapture believing church. Didn't believe it then, don't believe it now.
I'm pretty tired of this. There seems to be so many of the "convert the heathens"-kind of Christians who truly believe that people in the modern world actually haven't heard about Jesus.
We have. People knock on our door with silly little books and tracts. They pester us on the streets. They have tv-shows and radio shows. So even the atheists who haven't read the bible or any other holy book have certainly heard the message. And no, for rational people that doesn't make you instantly convert.
Are there any athiest that have gone to church and know the Word and yet deny it still?
Yup. I still go to church every Sunday (christian family, don't have the heart to break the news to them). Still very, very atheist.
Actually English is the only language, therefore the only one I have studied.
Correct grammar
English is the only language I have studied therefor English is the only language.

Are there any athiest that have gone to church and know the Word and yet deny it still?
Right here. I spent my entire scholastic career in Christian schools of one stripe or another. I was taught the precepts of your religion by professional theologians, pastors, and other Bible experts. In fact, it's largely because I do know the Bible so well that I became an atheist. I was sickened to my soul by the constant threats, bloodshed, and villainy demonstrated by Jehovah and all His favorite guys like Moses, David, etc. And it's spelled "atheist", numbnuts.
And I think Christians have failed in general when we have this many athiest running around claiming there is no God.
What a shame you can't torture or burn us like in the good old days, eh?
"Are there any athiest that have gone to church and know the Word and yet deny it still?"
I've been to Sunday School, and did RE at school, been to church for weddings & funerals. I've read the Bible, and the answer is YES.
Because I've determined that the 'Word' is a load of bollocks. Now how hard is it for you to deny that the Word is a load of bollocks too?
"Actually Christianity is the only religion, therefore the only one I have studied."
And yet I studied (in RE) Christianity. And Islam. And Judaism. And Hinduism. And Sikhism. And Zoroastrianism. And Jainism. And so on (including after I left school). Even $cientology. You must have either missed a LOT of classes or been 'hoemskuled', Elaine. Either way, this proves your ignorance.
"And I think Christians have failed in general when we have this many athiest running around claiming there is no God"
Hallelujah! She's seen the light of Logic! If only more fundies would realise this, then maybe they'd be on the right path of Reason. One more step would be changing 'claiming' with 'knowing', then that's half the battle won.
Wrong. I went to church regularly as a child and then again for several years as a young adult. I even got confirmed when I was in my 30s. It was during a church service that, while reciting the Nicene Creed, I realized I didn't believe a word of it. I never went back.
And yes, I have read the bible.
Well, I've read the bible several times.
Thats why I am an atheist.
Try it. Read the damn thing.

"Are there any athiest that have gone to church and know the Word and yet deny it still?"
Me!
I went when I was young because I was dragged there. I even went once with my Catholic aunt. That was... bizarre to say the least.
Anyway, yes. I "deny" your bullshit just like I "deny" all other religious bullshit so no, you're not special or anything.
"Because from what I can see on YA, the athiest are athiest because they simply do not KNOW the Word. Little understanding."
How can you people possibly think there are still some out there who have no fucking knowledge of your half-ass cobbled together bullshit religion?
"Actually Christianity is the only religion, therefore the only one I have studied."
Uh... how do you know if you haven't actually looked anywhere else?
"And I think Christians have failed in general when we have this many athiest running around claiming there is no God."
Isn't that a shame?
Ok, let me see if I can work through the grammar puke here.
Most atheists are atheists precisely BECAUSE they used to be christians, and know the bible backward and forward. If you think christianity is the only religion in the whole world, you seriously need to get out of your parents basement. When you said "And I think Chrisians have failed in general", you should have stopped right there. As a matter of fact, that's all you should have said. This post would have been more accurate and made more sense. And you wouldn't have looked like a dumb ass, since that is the only part that is grammatically correct.
Wow.
Well, yeah, I was a christian for sixteen years, and I've been studying Christianity for longer than that. I'd say I know a bit about it.
Also, how do you know that Islam isn't true if you haven't studied it?
I'm an atheist who endured twelve years of relentless Christian education. In college I even survived the Jesuits with my mind intact. And, Elaine, I know way, way, way more about Christianity and the Bible that you even know exists.
"Christians have failed in general"
If that was the full extent of your post, it would have been far more accurate.
1. I have been to church as a girl. I know some lines of the Bible. I can recite the story of Man's creation and subsequent fall probably more accurately than you can. It's crap.
2. Christianity is NOT the only religion. Get that through your head.
3. I think you are an idiot. Free will, remember? That little thingy that your god gave us which lets us think what we like? That's me excersising my free will, baby.
...And here I thought atheists examined the God argument, thought it was bullshit, and so then decided to be atheist. Silly me, here I thought they were making arguments out of something. Thank you, good samaritan, for reminding me that in the fundamentalist Christian mind people don't actually have to base arguments on anything.
@#1307873
"No, athiests are just athier than ordinary atheists."
...as Biggus Dickus would say. Translated: 'No, Ace ists are just Ace ier than ordinary Ace ists'
...ace! b^_^d
After all, you cannot spell the phrase 'right-wing Fundamentalist Christian' without the word Mental .
Fundie = Mental , thus inferior .
Atheist = Ace , therefore Superior .

>> the athiest are athiest because they simply do not KNOW the Word. <<
Yeah, It's because WE are the ignorant ones.
And I think Christians have failed in general when we have this many athiest running around claiming there is no God.
It's all your fault and God's gonna get you for it.
How the fuck can anyone, brought up in a western country, possibly fail to be aware of the Christian message ? Our language, metaphors, idioms, media and educational services are saturated in Christian imagery. Our history is steeped in stories of individuals and institutions whose every action and pronouncement was predicated upon their belief in the Christian God.
WE KNOW THE FUCKING STORY!!!
We don't fucking believe it!
Get that through your pointy little head and leave us the fuck alone.
( Sorry about that folks, lost my temper a little)
"Are there any athiest that have gone to church and know the Word and yet deny it still?"
Apparently most Atheists here were raised in it but still don't believe, some once did too.
Me? Never indoctrinated, by the time I heard/read about it it made fairy tales seem more likely. Liking myth I've looked into it more then most Christians, especially most Fundies, some who confuse fairy tales and legends with Biblical stories.
So,,,,it's not like you church/family raised Christians can change an Atheists mind with "the Word". You've failed to do that with many immersed in it.
To all you that have broke that delusion, I appreciatte the effort and input.
"Are there any athiest(sic) that have gone to church and know the Word and yet deny it still? "
I was seven and I could spell.
You're miserably stupid and would be dead before puberty in a functional society.
This pile of morons is toast.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
