God first created the earth before he created the sun, moon, and stars. logically, the first thing that is created is naturally the center of the creation and everything else revolves around it. if the sun is the center of our galaxy, then God would have created the Earth and just have it stationary until the sun came into existence. he would have had to jump-start the earth's rotations and orbit once he created the sun. obviously, God could do this, but it doesn't make sense.

Yeah, but, no, but .... the sun isn't the centre of our galaxy.
And the universe doesn't have a centre.
Before I bake my tater-tots and hot dogs in the toaster oven, I sometimes make a salad. The damndest thing is that the salad always ends up in the center of my kitchen table, with my dogs and tot satellites revolving around it. Although this makes the application of condiments more difficult, it happens infallibly, and I am forced to accept as a universal law that whatever is made first just ends up in the middle of the other things. So to my thinking, Nicodemus has a point.
I have a feeling that this guy's knowledge of cosmology falls somewhat short of a second grade level. Seems like he doesn't even realize that our galaxy is quite a bit bigger than our solar system.
Also, judging just by the small bit of universe we've poked around in already it would seem that 'God' has a thing for TONS of extra crap, so I wouldn't put it past him to not make the Earth the center of all creation.
No, seriously, just no. To claim that the earth is the physical center of the universe represents one of the highest forms of denial. It's not a faith issue, because we can prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the earth revolves around the sun.
As for the earth as the "spiritual center" of the universe, I suppose you could make that claim, but it would rely on the earth being the only planet on which there is life of any sort.
That the earth would be totally dark despite the fact that, according to the Bible, the first thing that God made was the LIGHT, because there were no sun or stars, doesn't make sense either.
How small we really are
I was waiting for an excuse to post that.
For being the most important thing in the universe we're pretty small. And is it just simpler to say that your holy book was written by people who just didn't know how vast the cosmos is and just assumed that they were the center of the universe. I just can't get over how arrogant that is.
Open your danm eyes and look around. Do you see how things work? Do you have a hard time grasping this reality just because it doesn't jive with what you've been told? Say, there might just be a reason for this! Hmmmm, what could it be?'
Maybe . . . . Satan?
"obviously, God could do this, but it doesn't make sense."
If making sense was important you wouldn't have posted this tripe in the first place.
The sun is not the center of the galaxy and neither is the earth.
Both of these are observable facts.
The rest of your post is simply bullshit.
I pity children who are homeskooled these kinds of "facts".
It makes me wish there were standardized exams even fundie homeskoolers would be forced to pass to get any kind of credits for homeskooling.
It might prevent this kind of tragedy.
Even the Bible disagrees with you. Taken from your precious KJV:
1:2 Genesis
The earth was formless and void , and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.
1:3 Genesis
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
Note the bolded section.
Speaking of making sense:
Any point could be plotted as the centre of the universe, but that would give...
- the planets of our solar system some bizarre orbits
- the most distant galaxies unimaginable velocities
Makes sense to you?
"but it doesn't make sense."
Neither does taking 7 days to do something he could do in a second, and then have to spend a day resting.
Wow, a genuine geocentric universe believer! *snaps photo* He must have been dragged here from the 1300s due to some bizarre quantum time flux!
Oh, and to borrow a lovely insult from Neil DeGrasse Tyson: You, sir, are inexcusably egocentric .
@Kristoffer - obviously light exists without the sun because the sky gets light before the sun appears over the horizon.
Apollo needs the light so he can see where to drive his chariot - oops, wrong mythology.
DER! We arez senterz of univerz cuz gawd saiz soez!!
I mean seriously. Even if your just accidentially flipping channels you can hit a station that says something along the lines that everything you just wrote IS FUCKING STUPID!
I really wish there was a human hunting season....
"Obviously, God could do this, but it doesn't make sense."
Are we playing "I understand infinite beings" again? Many would say the entire concept of God doesn't make sense, but that's likely to be out of the question for you. But why do you assume that what makes sense to you, as a mortal just as your peers, has any more baring...?
You could be the chew-toy of a massive dog god and entirely deny it (indeed, never even think up the possibility), simply because this god had no use for you thinking something specific. Still, you have thought and sensibility as an ignored side-effect (if such terms can even be used to describe such a thing), and you'll contemplate existence potentially for eternity, all for naught.
Makes sense? Not to most. But that's entirely irrelevant. Most dismiss such a truth as too dismal and frustrating, even if they don't name those reasons. Personally, I relish the thought of an unknowable truth - one obscured for reasons also unknowable - and having any such truth makes perfect sense to me. Not that I usually do anything about it... But that doesn't make it less true.
So, do you really want to delve into what "makes sense" when dealing with the divine...?
Confused?
