[Sophie had to write a paper for her psychology class]

[...] If people like Noah, who claimed God told him to build this massive boat in the desert, and Abraham, almost sacrificing his son because “God told him to do so”; Moses spending all those years out in the desert, eating bugs; not to mention Jesus, talking in parables, stating the dead will eventually arise and claiming he was God, had been diagnosed, I’m sure they would have been put on heavy medication, if not committed for a time.

As I stated earlier, I believe psychology has its place. In certain cirumstances, it should be up front and center. But in most cases, it should be after God. He is the Great Physician! God has not stopped healing! He is there if people will just “open the door and let Him in.” Admittedly, going to God takes humility first, and work second. It seems today’s society would rather consult man than their creator. They’d rather have the quick fix of a little pill, than take some time to work it out with their heavenly Father while having a clear head. I wonder if they even think they may be going through their disorder in order to bring them to God? Or that there is some beneficial knowledge to be gained and used in the future, by having gone through the disorder and come out whole with God’s help. The phrase, “Refined like silver” comes to mind! I believe sometimes, these “disorders” can be a gift from God.

I end with this thought: Had Abraham, Noah, Paul, or the prophets been diagnosed as crazy, mentally ill, or insane, would their confidence in themselves and God; with what He was instructing them to do, have been diminished? Would they have believed the clinical psychologist if they had been told the voice they were hearing wasn’t real and it was all just inside their heads? What if Abraham and Paul, being convinced of their diagnosis and on medication, had not listened to and followed God’s plan; would there be any hope today for Gentiles? If the prophets; being convinced of their diagnosis and on medication, had not listened to and followed God’s plan, would we have any way of knowing that God is Who He says He is and can do what He says He can (and will) do? If Noah; being convinced of his diagnosis and on medication, had not listened to and followed God’s plan, would there be no animals today? I shudder to think.
