Our life nowadays is worse than that cavemen or apes. Cavemen needed to survive, it gave excitement and meaning to our primitive brains.

You don't get bored or depressed when survival and feeding your family is your top priority.

Their life was exciting. It was what our brains have evolved to do. The world was also new and mysterious to them, they didn't have a boring routine they must follow day in, day out.

Sure, they could die of many things. Many of them died prematurely. But for the short time they did live, every day was a new adventure.

What do we have now, however? We work many more hours per day than they did. There's nothing new or exciting in our lives, just a grind and a routine and drudgery. Life in these big societies is alienating, meaningless, full of many hostilities and traps, lies and deceit.

**This post does not apply to rich people. They have it better than ever before. I didn't even want to mention the words Chad and Stacy, but of course these shit for brains live better than any caveman could dream to.

He ought to find himself having been time-transferred to 1822 years before the rise of the first civilization and get a taste of life at that time.

Living hand-to-mouth in a situation where you don't know where your next meal is coming from is not an adventure. What the fuck is the matter with you? Talk about first world problems: Boredom because he has modern Medical Care, modern sewage, modern food processing, modern entertainment and so on. Jesus fucking Christ give your head a shake.

To live in constant worry if you will live to the other day is not exciting. It is stresful and exhausting, mind-crushing.

To the one who lives in constant worry, the Unknown is not “new and mysterious” - it is a source of fear and danger.

Our time is perhaps the most precious thing we have. It is irreplacable and none of us knows just how much of it he will have - only that one day, it will run out. Our prosperity and technology finally reached the point where, for a significant portion of the population, a noteworthy chunk of time is freed up for our own use. We finally get agency about our careers and our relationships, no longer bound by immutable castes and estates. We have finally have the liberty to define our purpose, to the Pursuit of Happiness.

But you refuse to do so. And then, you complain about having no purpose in life.

You complain that there is “nothing new or exciting in our lives”… on the Internet. The greatest wonder in the history of communication and information sharing. You have virtually the entirity of all human knowledge and art at your disposal. You can come into contact with people at any other spot of the world in instants… or with local people with whom you share interests, but who you may have walked by countless times obliviously because you are not a social and talkative fellow, and neither are they

You are an ungrateful and unimaginative brat unwilling to appreciate his fortune, a sorry excuse of a human being. All these words I am writing here are just a scratch on the surface of my disgust at you.

But if you really hate your safe and comfortable life in the First World so much, why don’t you swap place with one of the countless people living precariously in less advanced parts of the world who risk, and far too often, lose, everything, up to including their very lives, in the attempt to join us?

Something about this post makes me think this guy has never gone hungry or without heat.

Had it just been created and they plopped in from a time machine or something? How on earth could it be “new and mysterious” to them? They were born there and grew up there, it was all they ever knew. Their world was just the same to them as ours is to us: it was their normal everyday existence, even if it wasn’t “boring”.

You make it sound like they suddenly walked into some Disneyland exhibit or parachuted into Jurrasic Park.

You get stressed when survival and feeding your family is your top priority. Stress can bring on depression.

You can have an equally exciting life now. Nothing is keeping you from growing your own food, creating your own tools and clothes and utensils.

Their lives were probably pretty much as routine and boring as our lives, just with other chores.

We can also die of many things. Some of us die prematurely. Every day CAN be a new adventure, if you just decide to love life.

No, you work much fewer hours than they did. They worked from sun-up to sun-down, day-in, day-out. We only work about 8 hours per day, and only five days per week. Sure, there’s a bit of unpaid work at home before and after work (cooking, cleaning, shopping, mending, ironing, vacuuming, washing, etc*.). But it’s much, much less now, when we have machines doing most of it for us, and we can buy produce instead of producing them ourselves.

There was probably a bit of that “hostilities and traps, lies and deceit”, back then too. People are sometimes petty, evil and selfish.

I haven’t gone hungry, but I have had periods in life when I had to restrict the outlay per day to about five dollars. It’s pretty far from an adventure, but you’re free to try it any day you want to, dork.

*Notice how many of those chores are considered women’s chores, dearie. How many hours per day do you devot to any of those, anon?

Because spending every waking hour of the day making sure there’s going be enough food to eat, and protection from the elements and predators, that isn’t work. Anyone care to tell me why every time some group of hippie wannabe dumbasses insists on trying to go out into some wilderness to live off the land, they always end up giving it up within two years? The only people who stick to it, they were raised like that or close to it. Try to go there from a comfortable life with internet access, yeah, forget it, you’re not doing it either.

There was a reality show that did a future vs prehistory comparison and it was horrible to watch. They didn't have medical treatment, they couldn't make a fire because the wood was too wet and since they weren't getting enough sleep, it affected their performance at the various tasks.

I work in an office, in a cubicle.
The worst goddamned day in my cubicle is LOADS better than the ‘excitement’ of being deployed on a submarine with 1.3% of the nation’s nuclear arsenal.
When there’s a fire, here, i leave.
If there’s flooding, here, i leave.
If i get hurt, here, there’s no corpsman with a medical office HOWEVER, i can leave and go to the ER for much better medical care than an enlisted who has some medical training.
I have been in ‘EXCITING’ situations where i was sure we were going to die. I’d rather be twenty steps from the vending machine.

You’re romanticizing the state of being on the edge of survival. Been there, it sucks.

I wonder if OP decided to forego technology, shelter for adventure. Living in a cave.
