As a Scandinavian, I feel I can answer this question…
I think theyr portrayal is an attempt to “piss” on our heritage. Nothing less.
Their portrayal of Norse mythology falls in the same vein as everything else they do. They have an agenda, and it’s anti anything European.

I hear that Scandinavians are anything other than 'pissed on' by Kosuke Fujishima when he borrowed from Norse mythology in "Ah! My Goddess" when the Three Norns - Urd, Belldandy & Skuld - live in a Shinto shrine in Japan.
People like it when their culture is promoted like this, especially by those from other countries.

And the thing that gets me with this sort of idiocy is, whenever a “foreign” culture gets adapted in some sort of media they’ll cry about “wokeness” and “white genocide”, all that shit. Yet, whenever they adapt something they worship, like in this case the viking mythology of the “superior master nordic race” they will ALSO cry about “pissing in our culture”. There’s no way to please a fascist dickhead, continuously getting angry and always finding a new target to bring down is one of the pillars of their ideology.

You know, when Metallica went to San Quentin Prison, it was just visiting, performing for the video they made, in the Johnny Cash tradition. Slayer were only acting, when they staged a prison riot in one video, featuring only actors. But you were in a real prison, as a convicted murderer, or manslayer.
And you can’t expect everybody to read the classic sagas about the Norse gods, most people will have a fairly cartoonish image of Thor in mind.
