I have read some science fiction, and I have watched a little of the science fiction movies that have been on television. I believe that the Lord impressed upon me that this is Satanic. I refuse to read it, or watch it. I heard a conservative movie critic on radio, telling about the movie, Return of the Jedi. He thought the Star Wars movies were great, along with some of the other science fiction movies. He thought they were fine for children. He is an interesting man, but he is an unsaved Jew. I would warn parents to keep this stuff out of your home, and out of the minds of your children. Many, if not all, of the "Heaven's Gate" cult were believers in UFO's, flying saucers, etc. According to Newsweek, they loved the Star Trek movies. On March 3, just a few days before the mass suicide, the cult members went to see "Star Wars." Later they watched the sequels.

Ok, following your stupid logic, I won´t care about you, because you´re an unsaved fundie who hasn´t bothered to read his own Bible, gives no quotes on reliable sources to support his opinion and, the funniest thing, doesn´t differentiate between reality and fiction.
And richard ramirez the night stalker, listened to AC/DC's 'Highway to Hell' at some point during his killing spree. If I listen to it, will it make me shoot, stab, mutilate, rape, humilate, defile and torture people, or did ramirez do the things he did because he was a corpse-fucking, raving psychopath?
I'd say it's stretching it a bit to call Star Wars science-fiction - it's mostly space-opera and a bunch of spiritual mumbo-jumbo. For real speculative science-fiction, you need somebody like Asimov - things like Psychohistory are more believable, and more interesting as you go into detail and explore the ramifications and possible scenarios.
Indeed, David D.G. Legend has it they're working on a film of Foundation, but that rumour's been going around for a while, and even if it's true they'll have a hell of a time not screwing it up. Personally, I'd be happy if the BBC would do a sequel to their most excellent radio series of the first three books - they were superb, even with the slightly OTT '70s sound effects.

Brain_In_A_Jar: Lord of the Rings managed to be mangled only moderately; we can hardly expect to get that lucky on a sci-fi/fantasy epic twice in the same decade.

Oh man, this reminds me of my childhood as a Pentecostal child. EVERYTHING was the devil. Even Care-Bears, Batman, Power Rangers, Barney the Dinosaur, etc. People like this should be taken seriously in that I mean as a threat. They should be watched because they are a dangerous breed who will do fanatical things.
So, just because a fellow nutjob whom you happen to disagree with watched it, makes is Satanic? Doesn't that rather put any credence in their court, if you bow to their tastes?

Sorry, Chan, but I wasn't actually talking about the hitchhiker's guide - that said, however, I've read the HHG books and heard the radio series, and I personally prefer the radio series (although it was one hell of a blow when the third series effectively wrote the entire second series out of the storyline by saying it was just a hallucination of one of the characters!), if for no other reason than the fact that Marvin's voice was spot on in the radio version :-)
