Please read this entire post if you wish for this entire mess to actually go somewhere productive.
This will not cover just your comments here, but also the ones you made on Discord in our public channel. To that end, I’ll quote what you said there first.
@Your Clairy Godmother
I have a problem
Those people on your gossip blog are still taking my comments and making fun of them
I got this today
I was making fun of that cringey Swedish climate change girl because I think she's not doing an awful lot to help and she's very aggressive, and of course these guys have nothing better to do but to make fun of an Autistic teenager.
Now they're making fun of me and my opinions again
Whose coming to my page and taking my comments out of context?
What do I do?
Leave them alone? They'll still make fun of me
Or confront them, but at the cost of giving them attention?
First of all, which guys are mocking Greta Thunberg (the autistic teenager)? You seem to be saying that the people on FSTDT are doing that. Can you point out anyone who is? Because I sure don’t see them doing that.
In fact, you, by your own admission, were making fun of that very girl. That is what got you quoted here, and it’s something that the people here have taken issue with (so, they did quite the opposite of mocking Thunberg!).
Secondly, notice what you did in the lines I quoted above. In the very next sentence after admitting that you mocked Thunberg, you complain about yourself being made fun of for what you said.
Do you realize how hypocritical this seems?
If you wish to make fun of other people, you better be able to take the heat yourself when they respond in kind. Do unto others, as you wish to be done unto you.
Furthermore, as you seem to recognize is the case with e.g. Greta Thunberg, your opinions are not beyond criticism or even being made fun of. As an avowedly ‘anti-SJW’ person, I’m surprised you don’t know that. In fact, from what I’ve seen, ‘anti-SJW’ people tend to be free speech absolutists - meaning, they believe that all, or nearly all, speech should be legal and not infringed upon. They tend to criticize SJWs for wanting to limit others’ speech, even if it’s seen as hate speech or slander.
SJWs are often mocked as being overly sensitive and not being able to tolerate criticism, as well as barging into other people’s spaces demanding that the ‘offensive’ speech there is stopped.
Now, take a moment and think what you’ve been doing here. You came here, offended by what is being said about you - and not even on your own site (DeviantArt), but on ours. The moment anyone criticizes you or mocks you, you act almost as if they did a grievous crime against your family’s honor… and demand that they stop.
I have an entirely serious question: How does this differ from the way a stereotypical SJW would react to something they feel offended by?
Now let me tell you about how the people on FSTDT have managed this whole thing.
You don’t know this because you came after the site’s recent overhaul, but we used to have a more lenient approach to commenting. Anyone could come here, registered or not, and post whatever the hell they wanted. Sure, the moderators could later delete a comment if it went against the rules and the admin could ban a person (though some found ways to come back nevertheless), but whoever posted something, it was immediately visible to all.
We were plagued by trolls, bots and spammers for years. Ultimately, the new administrator decided that the new version of the FSTDT site would have a stricter commenting policy. All commenters would have to register before posting, and new members’ posts would have to be vetted by a moderator first.
What this means is that your posts here have actually passed a moderator’s approval. Even though you are the quoted person, and you responded to our people with a certain dose of hostility, we nevertheless respected your right to speak freely and make your case. Note that as a privately owned site we didn’t need to do that; the site’s administrative team has the legal right to choose how much they wish to limit the speech of people who post here. The only legal limitation we have to abide is that we have no right to allow things like calls to violence or do things otherwise illegal.
So, here on the main FSTDT site we specifically and knowingly gave you the opportunity to speak for yourself, even though we knew the people here would disagree with what you have to say.
And remember how we treated you on Discord? The moment you showed civility to us, our people generally responded in kind.
FSTDT is not a harasser’s site. We do not invade your space on DeviantArt and hound you with troll messages - even though we theoretically could do that if we wanted to, seeing as all it would take to do so is to register an account there.
FSTDT’s mission is to seek the verbal and written sayings of people we consider bigoted, intolerant, hateful, abusive or sometimes just ridiculously and damagingly ignorant in some way. If approved by the mods, these writings are posted on the site, and the members can constructively criticize them… or mock and laugh, if they prefer. Either way, FSTDT provides a way to face the dark aspects of humanity without succumbing to despair. To dispel a bit of the darkness with humor and levity… or to vent one’s anger in case the fundie is being particularly vile.
Now, you are right that this means that things can be taken out of context. This has happened now and then - with the way the site is conceptualized, it’s inevitable. In the same vein, sometimes a person submits a quote that, upon closer inspection, isn’t really bad. In that case, it is the moderator’s job to refuse the submission. Indeed, we often do delete such quotes before they ever reach the main page.
And if an innocuous or wrongly understood quote does make it through, commenters often ask things like “Why is this even here?”, and it tends to result in the quote in question being reviewed by the mods and deleted.
If you think something shouldn’t be quoted here, you are free to argue why. If the mod team agrees with you, it will be removed, and apologized for.
But do note that your posts have ended up here for a reason.
By the way, regarding my note how “FSTDT is not a harasser’s site”… remember that time a couple days ago when a submitter posted a bit too much information about a fundamentalist, and suggested actually full-on doxxing the fundie? You saw firsthand the process of how the FSTDT mod team agreed that this was not okay, and decided to delete that whole thread.
So, to summarize:
We quoted posts made by you, that you posted on a site where comments are publically viewable (DeviantArt), prompting you to come here to protest and request that we cease doing so. Despite the fact that it’s basically a matter of you being offended by our exercise of free speech, we let you come in and speak your case. In the course of commenting here on the main site, you have said things that people here disagree with vehemently, and you weren’t overly polite about it (granted, neither were the other commenters to you). Nevertheless, we let you speak openly and without consequences, despite the fact that you explicitly want to shut us up.
So tell me, @YourClairyGodmother: Who is the ‘SJW’ here, really?
P.S.: If you wish to discuss with us why we take issue with your views, that can be arranged, no problem - as long as you’re willing to repond with a minimum of civility (same goes for our people), and respond to things people are actually saying. I also think I’ll make another post here, to address a few things I haven’t yet.
