(Why oh why are so many feminists transphobic? WHY!!??)

Might have something to do with feminists being more likely to see through men's bullshit, and trans ideology is another iteration of men's bullshit.

Might also be that feminists recognize a misogynistic male when we see one, and a significant number of trans women massively hate women and let it all hang out online.

And, don't forget, feminists are likely to be the least self-sacrificing of women, at least when it comes to sacrificing our rights and our attention and our labor for the benefit of males, and it just so happens that the trans movement wants us to sacrifice all three for their benefit.

But, yeah, it's a total mystery.

You know that trans women have to face *greater* persecution and oppression than you do, from both you and the men you claim are aligned with them?

I've always found the 'Trans women are just misogynist men' argument to be unintentionally hilarious. Newsflash: trans men exist too. By your own admission, you're equally guilty of...whatever it is that trans people are supposed to be doing? That, or you think women hating men is OK. Either way, it's a massive double standard, and you're pretty much just an MRA with better publicity and a couple of bits flipped.

Actually, from what I've seen, it's mostly the moderate feminists who believe that gender is just a social construct and the only major difference between men and women is bodily. 'Radical feminists' like this seem to be perfectly fine with gender-based discrimination and stereotyping as long as it doesn't negatively effect them.

The problem with the world is that humans always see things as either-or. NEWS FLASH: You can still have a society full of sexy model photos and superficial heartthrob stuff and still have a society that value's a person's inner worth! It's not hard to try and make that mental shift!

* Power does not always have to corrupt.
* People can learn to remain Liberal, Progressive and free-wheelin' even during tough economic/social times, rather than suddenly fall into wingnuttery as a coping mechanism. You notice how when things go crazy, people and governments tend to go right-ward whereas Progressive and/or permissive societies thrive when things are well? Why does it have to be that way? Why not keep the "Flapper-Party" going throughout the "Great Depression", so to speak? Hey, humanity, learn to feel inner security so you don't feel you have to run into the arms of the next Reagan/Thatcher/Putin/etc. in times of uncertainty. Don't keep falling for propaganda!
* Porn, erotica & prostitution can be streamlined, regulated and make more gender-equal and safe.
* You can still oogle a person and still believe in sexual equality!

It doesn't have to be either-or. Humanity must see both sides, think in shades of gray and marry opposites. We need to expand our minds. That's how we evolve.

There's still a definite Good & Evil but there's still shades of grey. Order & Chaos can work together! Capitalism & Socialism can work together! Feminism & Porn/Sexy Model Pics can work together!

Male & Female can work together.

Finally, I take back something I said a long while ago. Femininity & Masculinity are 100% equal....Femininity is not better than Masculinity. There is a big difference between Masculinity & Machismo. Real Masculinity is not brutish, macho, crude, smelly, etc.

Shiva may be a corpse without Shakti but Yin is a corpse without Yang.

I hope you can understand what I'm having a hard time trying to articulate.

I'm not sure if this will make sense to anybody else, but...
I think the problem with talking about masculinity and femininity is that there's a lot of cultural baggage telling people that there's only one right way to be a man or a woman. In my opinion, it would help if there were an easy way to describe 'masculine'
and 'feminine' that doesn't imply that masculine and feminine have to be male and female. Personally, I think the masculine ideal can be just as positive in a woman as it is in a man, and vice versa. Does that make sense?

Really? I suppose that makes sense. It seems to be one of the phrases that has shifted in definition. I was trying to refer to the current situation, at least as far as I understand it. I'm sorry if I caused any confusion.

While I have some issues with the base concepts of masculinity and femininity (considering they change by culture, sometimes drastically and even to the point of inversion), very well put.

As a pseudo-addendum, never understood why discipline, morality, or principle of most sorts somehow keeps getting tied to or conflated with prudishness. Is it really that hard to compartmentalize the various aspects of one's life? Or are those of us that do just crazy?

TERFs are their own worst enemies.

I went to dinner last night with a friend. She asked if she could bring a friend along because they were from out of town and she didn't want to leave them at home.

When she shows up with this guy he immediately starts making derogatory comments about the waitresses. When he cat called one I called him a prick. All of the sudden I'm a feminazi, transphobic bigot.

I was unaware, until he said it, that he was a transman.

He spent the entirety of the (blessedly) short meal screeching about how all feminists are transphobic and evil man haters. So of course I was picking on him for being a transman instead of calling him out for his own disgusting behavior.

So, yeah, good job, TERFs. You gave him a shield to hide behind by crying wolf on all the perfectly nice trans individuals.

Epic rant, Spook. I couldn't agree more, and I have to say that it puzzles me how many people who suffer from discrimination are often only too eager to discriminate against someone else in turn, instead of learning and maturing from the experience, and doing their best to combat discrimination altogether.

The same goes for the either/or mentality that seems to plague most people around the world. Not just when it comes to something as complex as human sexuality, either, but (apropos of nothing) even with something as basic as subjective tastes in music, literature, etc. You can like one thing or another thing best. You can't like two or more simultaneously and equally. To paraphrase the peerless Mr. Izzard, "Two favourites in one head? No-one can live at that speed!"
