"The Tories want to do cuts"
- Good evening. I'm the Minister of Cuts. We've cut the armed services. And here is the new streamlined Army brigade: two men. One to fire the gun and the other to ask for the bullet back! What's more, we're putting the Army on a one-day week! So unless the Russians attack on a Monday, we'll be closed! This ticket here is British Rail's new Stay Away day. You travel to a secret destination and we close down the line before you come back! And we'll cut education! Eton and Harrow will come down to half size and merge with Sandwich College. So we'll get a narrow Harrow and a half Eton Sandwich!
Interesting idea of voters eating the consequences of their votes directly without dragging in all the people who didn't want that shit.
Would be cool to use that in the US for the healthcare bull that has just come out.
I can't imagine how a system in which the government knows who voted for them could possibly go awry. Also, Corbyn's politics is supposedly built on compassion. You lose that image if you start blackmailing and demanding harsh retributions for those who think differently. What happened to the old idea of the workers being manipulated into voting Conservative, whilst retaining sympathy for their plight, as believed by many an old leftist? I guess that after decades of the proles failing to come to their senses to see socialism as the only answer, the only path is to punish them for it.
Look; I hate Right-Wingyness as much as any Progressive but YOU'RE STOOPING TO THEIR LEVEL!
Here's an idea; Get Labour to work on their reputation and strategy and become more united! That'll get people voting more!
@Malingspann
That was clever and funny.
You guys sure this is serious? It's a pretty common joke on the left that awful policies should only apply to the people who voted for them.
@Yossarian:

The workers have the Internet now, and can do their own research. At this point, voting against your own interests is a sign of stupidity.
@Demon Duck of Doom:
I don't think berating the masses for being idiots is a winning strategy for the left, somehow. Besides, you assume that the position of the current left is what's best for the workers. It may be, but there are clear concerns that Corbyn isn't able to alleviate worries over economic competence, such as through Diane Abbott's mismatch over the figures, or security. Labour and the left should examine itself for flaws in its approach to matters held dear by the public, instead of assuming a position of intellectual superiority and dismisdimg those it professes to want to help as morons deserving of what's coming to them.
@SpukiKitty :
The tories in red clothes claim is commonly made by those furthest to the left of the party who want to dismiss the authenticity of Labour MPs and voters who are deemed ideologically impure. It's not a realistic assessment of Labour people who happen to have different views to Corbyn and the red Labour types, it's just a smear designed to implement cynicism and mistrust to those they disagree with.
Yes, this is an opponent of the Tories suggesting that the party actually punishes the people who voted for it. Yeah, that would really work.
Incidentally, the vast majority of Tories are not maniacal enough to want to abolish the NHS. They're not like the USA's Republicans.
Governments that view voting records and judge people accordingly are usually on the level of Zanu-PF who murder and terrorise the people who didn't vote for them.
@Yossarian: Can't speak on Corbyn, due to lack of knowledge (not British); my point was about economic leftism in general, and I'm tired of coddling people who can do their own research and choose not to. If somebody's genuinely new and needs a little bit of quick info, fine. But the left's insistence on answering every question asked every time just leads to rightist trolls JAQ'ing off as a distraction tactic.
Jeremy Corbyn Leads Us to 2017 Victory
Well, even rightists are saying that the left-wing will emerge victorious by 2025, so what does that say about you ?

...but then, Donald Fart says he looks forward to working with the Strogg... er, I mean the French's new leader Le Makron: a Centrist , so there y'go. [/"Quake IV"]
@SpukiKitty
So many Londoners voted for Sadiq Khan - who is a member of the Labour Party - as Mayor of our capitol, so there y'go II.
That's not how it works in a democracy. You vote people into power, and they make decisions for EVERYBODY (unless you're an American congressman who votes himself exempt from the health care law they're about to pass), not just the people who voted for them. For example, we in America voted in the Republican party so they get to deny rights and benefits for all of us except their 1%'er buddies who can afford it anyway.
@Demon Duck of Doom:
I'm not saying that we should pander to the ignorant in a debate, it's more than reasonable to stop engaging in debate with those who are ignorant and too stubborn to reconsider their position. However, I don't believe that all people who haven't voted for the leftist or liberal candidates in an elections are hopeless, I think we can win them over if we address their concerns. The left's failure to do so has opened the door to populist right wingers to pander to their concerns with nonsense. I think that a leftist political party should always reach out to those it professes to care about, not ignore them, and attitudes like the one above are only going to alienate. I've used Corbyn as an example, but I've seen this attitude towards the working class who've voted across the left and it pre-dates him; many of the 1980s leftists were dismayed by working class folk who voted Thatcher and they saw them as traitors.
@Musicalbookworm:
Such attitudes are not uncommon in the European left, particularly among the hardcore Corbyn fans.
@Yossarian: Oh, yes, do outreach. But don't be all nice about it. Be angry alongside the working class, lots of them are just as pissed.
Honestly, I kind of agree with this guy. For example, red states in the US should be cut off from federal disaster relief, healthcare benefits, or pretty much any other beneficial endeavor if they or their representatives are voting against these benefits, and especially if they voted to deny other states these benefits.
Let Kansas wither, starve, and die until the Kansans vote Brownback and his ilk out of office. Let Texas deal with their own floods and such until Cruz is voted out, and his replacements doesn't try to deny the same help to New York and California. And let coal miners die at age 30 of preventable illnesses, if they are attempting to deny healthcare coverage to people on the ACA. Good riddance.
