[crossdressing day during school spirit week]
We used to have the school spirit stuff back when I was in high school as well. I didn't see the harm then but today I do see it as satan's way of sneaking it in as 'innocent' fun. Also homosexuality was very much frowned upon back then and if someone were to even hint at possibly being homosexual they were instantly a social pariah. Of course because of the slow eroding of our senses with 'innocent' play this is now almost a normal part of our society today. We as Christians do need to set a higher standard.

GigaGuess: We had it at my high school, and that was in the se- uh, a little while ago.
But we didn't have tacky-tourist day. Ye gods, I'd have killed to be able to participate in that one.
"Also homosexuality was very much frowned upon back then and if someone were to even hint at possibly being homosexual they were instantly a social pariah."
And they would've probably had the living snot beaten out of them, and/or suffer imprisonment. Ah, the good ol' days.
There is nothing wrong with cross-dressing. I personally would not do it, but it doesn't bother me if other people do. I will, however, have hot sweaty man sex.
To reiterate:
Cross-dressing =/= Being gay
I wore mens flip flops today, I guess that makes me a lesbian.
As a parent of 4 children, I am offended schools have decided to introduce children to alternative lifestyles.
lol what. I think these nutters are actually thinking that the school is FORCING the kids to dress in drag or something. omg the persecution!!!!
Also:
Actually, when I used to hang out in gay bars every weekend after Rocky Horror I wore three piece pinstripe suits and fedoras. Dang I looked cool. I also used to watch men who looked better in dresses than I did lip synching to bad disco and broadway songs. Should we do THAT in schools, too?
When you consciously make it a day when you are supposed to wear the clothes of the other gender, as a conscious and deliberate act, then believe me, honey you're moving into the territory I used to hang out in.
As for how I know it's a sin, I used to think it was fun. Now I that I'm saved I find it repugnant.
this shit is bananas.
<< As for how I know it's a sin, I used to think it was fun. Now I that I'm saved I find it repugnant. >>
onions: Egad, it's official: Fun = Sin.
No wonder fundies are usually so bitter.
Oh, and you totally should submit that quote to the mainpage if you haven't already. That's even better than the OP here.
~David D.G.
one year in highschool (this was a few years ago obviously... starting to feel old just mentioning this) the entire dorm managed to borrow kilts from the girl's dorm, and went in as the 'cast' of braveheart wearing nothing but those and facepaint.
... it was fucking cold that day.
@Doctor Whom
Dating yourself a touch there? :p
@Michael
Canadian. We may have our crazies up here, but mercifully, I have a border separating me from a good few of them.
That said, I am in the most conservative province of the lot, joy of joys, so I still get to hear a few...ah...special comments.
"if someone were to even hint at possibly being homosexual they were instantly a social pariah."
Don't tell me, let me guess. You think this is admirable, right?
You all are freaking morons. Lisaann is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She would do anything to help anyone in any situation. Even the losers that post on here. Christians do need to set a higher standard. She is exactly right in what she said.
I almost never defend people on here, but you seriously are misguided in your character assassinations on her.
@mamacags: Maybe she's nice to you because you're heterosexual. But she sure isn't nice when she suggests making homosexuals social pariahs. For goodness sakes, they're PEOPLE. You may not agree with their orientation, but they're still human beings, like it or not. And for you and lisaann to suggest otherwise, for you to view past mistreatments of homosexuals as proper and justified is sickening.
"You all are freaking morons. Lisaann is one of the nicest people I have ever met. She would do anything to help anyone in any situation."
In the fundiverse where homosexuals are not actually human beings and deserve to be treated WORSE than animals, this may make more sense.
You have no idea whatsoever how Lisaann treats homosexuals. You are reading things into this quote that are not there. Just because you disagree with a person's lifestyle doesn't mean you treat them different or hate them. My 2nd best friend is into wicca and wishes she could be a vampire. She hates Republicans and thinks GWB is the antichrist. She has also been known to make out with strippers at the nudie bars. That doesn't make me love her any less. I think you all would be very surprised at who are friends and families are and how they are treated.
Go ahead and generalize though if it makes you feel better. Kinda like how Fred Phelps generalizes all the time, or skin heads.
You do realize that the majority of crossdressers are straight men, right?
And mamacags, fuck off. No one here gives a rat's ass.
"Just because you disagree with a person's lifestyle doesn't mean you treat them different or hate them."
"if someone were to even hint at possibly being homosexual they were instantly a social pariah."
There is something that clashes between those two sentences, dear. I don't think you need to be Einstein to figure out what it is. Her (apparent) lack of remorse for the MISERY that was heaped upon these 'pariahs' is creepy.
"We as Christians do need to set a higher standard."
I really wish you and her WOULD set a higher standard, consider the logs in your own eyes, instead of chatting with each other on the phone lines reassuring each other of your own holiness, etc. A mutual admiration society, nothing more, nothing less. It amazes me to hear these people talk. I sat down for lunch with two managers in my company last month and they went on about some golf person touring in their stupid tournaments who was apparently transgendered or something, and how they didn't want to see such things, their faces showing their revulsion. I'm thinking, here we are all sitting in luxury and wealth, in a clean nondrafty building, eating fine food, and what are we talking about? Crapping on people who obviously had life problems that we will never even have to remotely deal with? Both those fools thought they were such standard-setting Christians too..
"My 2nd best friend is into wicca and wishes she could be a vampire"
Well, many people who read "Interview With A Vampire" wish to become vampires. I agree, it's odd, but how does it hurt me? How could I believe that God was so stupid and petty and SHALLOW that he could be annoyed by something as trivial as that? I LIKE to meet people that have quirks like that, they make life interesting. If God condemns them for daring to have sparks of life in them, I would condemn that God.
Illuminatalie.... she never said she made them into one. She stated that they were turned into one. You know that happens at every school in America. You know it isn't just Christians that do it too.
Delirium, you are so charming! Your mom must be so proud of you. Her big widdle boy can cuss. WOW. What talent and wit.
"she never said she made them into one. She stated that they were turned into ones"
She said that Christians should try harder, because back in the day they were treated as pariahs. Why would she mention they were pariahs, in that context, if she clearly didn't think it was more or less a GOOD thing? This is not very complicated. It's not twisting someone's words. Pretending they were words of tolerance and love, now THAT would be twisting things.
Do YOU think it was a good thing? SHOULD they be pariahs? Can you honestly answer "no" to those two questions? Hmm?
"You know it isn't just Christians that do it too."
The ONLY people in the world that believe homosexuality is a choice, and therefore *can* be a sin in the first place, are fundamentalist religious people. Science, common sense, and individual testimony, all contradict these religious people. And religious people simply don't want to give up objects of their hate so they say the science is evil - it's very transparent to anyone on the outside. And I have seen that equation one too many times to pretend it's some occasional aberration of the system. You seem like an overall decent person - why do you trust these religious people? I'm not saying to trust me either - do your own research.
I am a fundie. My point all along about homosexuals or anyone for that matter is that what you do in your bedroom is your business as long as it is between consenting adults. I just don't want to hear about it or see it. I honestly don't care if anyone is gay. I just hate when people use thier traits to become a victim.
I trust people who value truth and honor as much as I do. It doesn't matter which aisle of the religious theater they are on.
My whole purpose on this thread was to defend Lisaann since I know her personally. I think it is pretty shameful to bismirch someone's name that you don't know.
Those asking about judging someone. Do you judge fundies or other people just for who they are? Do you judge George Bush? You are doing the same thing you claim to hate in others.
We did a cross-dressing exercise at a Raelian seminar. I thought it was weird at first, but then ended up having great fun with everyone acting like stereotypical members of the opposite sex. And then we all went to a restaurant dressed up and ate a big meal with all the people staring at us wondering who the hell we were.
Bah, humbug! I always liked it when the guys at my (Catholic) high school cross-dressed for Halloween. Never saw anyone go as one of the Bravheart cast, though. I think that would have been a hit. Seriously, the only thing that would have made those times even better would have been if the guys all wore full makeup.
"We as Christians do need to set a higher standard."
Yeah, Like Jimmy Swaggart, oh wait, like Jim Bakker, no wait, like Robert Tilton, aw geez, like Ted Haggard, oh man...
Face it lisaann (and associated sock-puppets), the "higher standard" you Christians claim to set exists only in your own mind, and you have no one to blame but yourselves!
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
