The article essentially uses a study taken to demonstrate the effects of a social media echo chamber and twists it into an enormous generalization, by labelling people as 'conspiracy theorists' with obvious negative connotations.
It's important to distinguish between people with low capacity for critical thought, people with mental disorders which blur their perceptions of reality, and people with suspicions and alternative thoughts on a given topic.
The people who believe that JFK was murdered by a magic, bending bullet, with space aliens at the helm are in a wholly different intellectual category to those that have suspicions based on evidence that the federal reserve had some involvement.
