(CNN) -- A Boston, Massachusetts, police officer who sent a mass e-mail in which he referred to Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. as "banana-eating" and a "bumbling jungle monkey" has been placed on administrative leave and faces losing his job.

Re:last most
No, it's "Gross Misconduct", and is a immediate sacking offence, in private companies...
In addition, it's libellious...
It's so much fun when idiots like this send out mass emails to an entire corporation when they meant to send it only to a select few.
Not sure how they actually do it, but I've seen it get someone fired often enough that I just assume it's a depth of human stupidity that I'm not aware of.
Nobody's job has ever been covered by freedom of speech.
88: Call your boss a fucking retard then claim you pig-spit penetrated his wife in a biker bar. There's no way you'd get fired for that, freedom of speech, right?
Nope. Racism is racism. Someone discriminates against you or insults you for being white, it's racism. If I called you a stupid goy, that'd be hate speech. If I just called you stupid, it'd be descriptive.
Hate speech, by itself isn't illegal and no criminal charges were filed. You don't have to break state or federal law in order to get sacked from a job.
Hate crime legislation is an extension of the legal system's long standing need to determine motive. Did you ever wonder why judges would give different sentences for different crimes? Every crime has a person that committed it, a means by which they committed it and a reason for committing it. Someone thought certain motives were getting lighter sentences than they deserved. Whether or not they were is open to debate.
If a black police man showed an attitude as equally racist and dick headed he'd also risk get fired.
We tend to require quite a lot from police officers; they should be shining examples of behavior to the public, they should be helpful and kind to most, and stern but fair to those who deserv it. They should NEVER lower themselves to this pre-school name-calling level, then they have forfeited the respect that is a primary asset in their vocation.
88, I agree with you completely, bro. Unfortunately there is a double-standard in this country, and the cards are stacked against white people. Notice that the white guy is the villain in this story, not the black negro who was caught breaking into a house.
It's good to hear from a fellow 'angry white man' who has the guts to stand up for his rights, regardless of what other people think. If you're ever in the Gillette, Wyoming, area, drop me a line and I'll give you directions to my ranch. I'm sure you'd be welcome in this part of the country. We're having a 'hats and chaps' party this weekend, and I can guarantee there won't be any niggers there.
"Hats and chaps" party is another name for a formal-dress country western party, asspipe. It's a fun time when cowboys get together on the ranch to catch up at the end of summer. There'll be kareoke and a barbecue, and we'll spend the night at the bunkhouse. There'll be some fun outdoor games and activities, such as fishing, hunting, a roping contest, etc. The only game that we'll be playing that could possibly be construed as 'gay' is "Saddle Up," but as far as I know that's an old western tradition that goes back way before gay was even an issue in our culture. Get your mind out of the gutter, twit.
Confused?
