Dog eating (and cat eating for that matter) is not a normal thing even in the cultures where it happens. Poor people will do this in some parts of eastern, southeastern, and central Asia when the population of strays explode out of control and meat is otherwise scarce, it’s not like they’re doing this as some delicacy or out of cruelty. Well, not the vast majority of the time; “shock tourism” is a thing, albeit a *very* niche thing. Once the explosion ends, most of the animals are going to die of starvation anyway, leaving the houses and streets filled with rotting corpses - including the corpses of at least a few humans who also died of starvation. This is making the best of a bad situation, since the government rarely bothers with preventing this kind of mess from happening, and the poor aren’t in any position to fix things themselves.
Like, it’s a valid thing to respond with “I don’t care, people should be willing to suffer and die based on my personal principles” but it’s really douchey if you never have to face the reality yourself.
