Here's the thing: homosexuality is a CHOICE! There is not one shred of credible evidence to suggest that people are born that way...if there were, then the Bible wouldn't be telling the truth. In other words, God wouldn't be against something that he allows people to be born with. I also think that to equate gay marriage with the Civil Rights struggle is most bogus and really stupid. Black people couldn't help the color of their skin and they should never had been treated the way they were in this country for so long. They needed and certainly deserved civil rights. Gays, however, do not deserve civil rights for what is basically a lifestyle choice. This is just getting more nuts all the time

Well jb777, you can easily prove it is a choice.
Make the choice to become gay for a year and find yourself a boyfriend suck some dick and take it up the rear for a year or so, then make the switch back to being straight again.
Since it is a choice, you should have no problems doing so, right?
"In other words, God wouldn't be against something that he allows people to be born with."
I thought your god allowed everyone to be born with sin and is generally against anyone who doesn't suck up to him because our anscestors ate a piece of fruit.
And here we arrive at the crux of the fundy mindset.
If A(born gay) is true, then B(bible) is false
A is true
Most people would take these premises and say, well then B is false. But Fundies say
"The whole world is in a conspiracy and all science is a LIEEEEE!!"
"Here's the thing: homosexuality is a CHOICE! There is not one shred of credible evidence to suggest that people are born that way...if there were, then the Bible wouldn't be telling the truth. In other words, God wouldn't be against something that he allows people to be born with."
Almost there...
Can you recall the day you chose to be straight? Didn't think so.
And like someone already said, God doesn't tolerate sin, and yet he allows everyone to be born as sinners, and then expects THEM to beg for forgiveness for something that HE caused.
Maybe since the bible isn't telling the truth about homosexuals, it's not telling the truth about God either. Or a world-wide flood. Or people coming back to life. Or people being strong 'cause their hair is sexy. Or dragons. Or giants. Or leviathans. Or centaurs with scorpion features. Or you.
BTW, the bible doesn't say anything about whether people are born homosexual or not, just that committing homosexual acts is sinful.
Do you know what, I couldn't care less whether being gay is something you're born with, something you choose, or influenced by any one of a thousand things; bottom line is there's nothing wrong with it regardless, jb777 is a jerk, and all human beings deserve rights.
There is not one shred of credible evidence to suggest that people are born that way...if there were, then the Bible wouldn't be telling the truth.
Okay, the Bible isn't telling the truth. Was that so hard?
Here's the thing: homosexuality is a CHOICE! There is not one shred of credible evidence to suggest that people are born that way...if there were, then the Bible wouldn't be telling the truth.
The Bible is loaded with errors. As for "shreds" of evidence, there are several:
a) there is a well-known correlation between being a gay male and having a gay relative on his mother's side. This suggests either something on the X chromosome inherited from the mother or a genetic defect in the mother that causes an in utero development problem.
b) there is a well-known correlation between being a gay male and having older brothers. The more older brothers a person has, the more likely he is to be gay. Again, this suggests a genetic defect in the mother that causes some sort of autoimmune reaction to the presence of a male fetus.
c) given the way gays are discriminated against in the US, no rational person would deliberately choose to be gay.
OK. There's credible evidence. Now what evidence is there that it's a choice?
In other words, God wouldn't be against something that he allows people to be born with.
Leviticus 21:17 "For the generations to come none of your descendants who has a defect may come near to offer the food of his God. 18 No man who has any defect may come near: no man who is blind or lame, disfigured or deformed; 19 no man with a crippled foot or hand, 20 or who is hunchbacked or dwarfed, or who has any eye defect, or who has festering or running sores or damaged testicles. 21 No descendant of Aaron the priest who has any defect is to come near to present the offerings made to the LORD by fire. He has a defect; he must not come near to offer the food of his God. 22 He may eat the most holy food of his God, as well as the holy food; 23 yet because of his defect, he must not go near the curtain or approach the altar, and so desecrate my sanctuary.
You god is a straight up psychopathic, hate-filled dick that gets money shots on his creation either way.
"There is not one shred of credible evidence to suggest that people are born that way...if there were, then the Bible wouldn't be telling the truth."
this is so very telling.
and actually, the evidence you claim does not exist actually does exist.
" homosexuality is a CHOICE!"
Capitalization makes it TRUE!
" then the Bible wouldn't be telling the truth."
Nahhh...couldn't be...
And "it's not civil rights because homosexuality is a choice" is fail, considering that we pretty much know that it is only a "choice" for a negligible definition of the word.
"Gays, however, do not deserve civil rights for what is basically a lifestyle choice. This is just getting more nuts all the time"
Just like Christians don't deserve rights for what is basically a lifestyle choice. You don't want to go down that road, fucker.
You could have your nose rubbed into all the data proving it's not a choice, and you insist it was.
Black people can't help the color of their skin, and homosexuals can't help being born with their sexual orientation.
Move on, you judgemental asshole.
If it is..then can you, jb777, choose to be gay right now?
Go ahead and say no and prove yourself wrong.
Does anyone have any real control over the people they are (1) attracted to, or (2) in love with? I have always been attracted to women, which makes me a straight man. I can't explain why that is, nor do I really feel like I should need to.
With that in mind, then, why should a man who has alway been attracted to other man have to explain why it is and/or feel like he should need to? It's not a choice; it simply is.
This sentence is very telling:
"There is not one shred of credible evidence to suggest that people are born that way...if there were, then the Bible wouldn't be telling the truth"
Let me translate.
"Homosexuality, although proven to be the way some people are born, even though science can prove that homosexuals do not choose to live that way, but are born that way, since it's not in the bible, I reject all credible evidence and proof, because the bible can't be wrong, even if all things point to it being so."
"Black people couldn't help the color of their skin and they should never had been treated the way they were in this country for so long. They needed and certainly deserved civil rights"
Curse of Ham, anyone?
Oh wait, THAT little bit of history has been shamefully pushed out of your christian teaching, hasn't it? Wonder what else will change in 200 years...
50% of monozygotic twins are gay if one member of the set is gay indicating a genetic and indeed a natural link. It's quite interesting. None of us are truly straight. (Think how "straight" animals behave in nature and how we do)
And even if we regarded as homosexuality as a choice. Imagine the responses if we replaced the word Gay with christians, muslims, hindus or people who break their eggs on the rounded end.
Unbelievable. In other words there is no credible evidence because if there was it would contradict the bible. So it doesn't matter what eveidence is found.
The fact of the matter is that science has found an allele of a gene that a large majority of gay people have, and that most straight people do not. Having this allele does not necessarily make you gay, but it increases your predisposition. Genes do not function as autonomous units. Let's be honest here, there are many people, some men in particular, that are just obviously gay. Being effeminate is clearly not something that one could choose...and I am not trying to be insensitive here either. It is what it is. It is mind boggling that people still have to use a 2000 year old book of Bronze Age myths and raise its truths above all others. Astounding.
Black people couldn't help their skin color? What an incredibly racist statement. Maybe its white people that couldn't help it.
if being gay is a choice, why not try it for a week, and then repent, I am sure your god will forgive you
There is not one shred of credible evidence to suggest that people are born that way...
Except, you know, THE TESTIMONIALS OF GAY PEOPLE.
"God wouldn't be against something that he allows people to be born with."
Someone has forgotten the curse on Ham in Gen 9:20-27, which was used for centuries as justification for racial bigotry.
What about the Egyptian firstborn then? Your merciful god hardened the Pharos' heart to ensure they would die. Your argument would be a lot more convincing if god, in his mercy, didn't kill innocents left and right all through the bible.
Gays, however, do not deserve civil rights for what is basically a lifestyle choice.
OK, for the sake of the argument let’s say that it is really a choice. How does it follow from that that they don’t deserve civil rights? And no, the US constitution says Bible quotes do not count as reasons.
"Here's the thing: gender is a CHOICE! There is not one shred of credible evidence to suggest that people are born that way...[...] I also think that to equate women's liberation with the Civil Rights struggle is most bogus and really stupid. Black people couldn't help the color of their skin and they should never have been treated the way they were in this country for so long. They needed and certainly deserved civil rights. Women, however, do not deserve civil rights for what is basically a lifestyle choice. This is just getting more nuts all the time"
Fixed that for ya, dearie. Do you see where the nuttiness is, now?
Confused?
