the joy of taxing the poor
the poor should be taxed more heavily than the rich
and the ultra rich shouldn't be taxed at all
yes, in the long-run, taxation should be eliminated altogether (as i've said many times)
but given that we're going to tax some people, those people should be poor people
the poor should subsidize the rich for 2 main reasons:
1) it incentives the poor to become more productive and to become rich, which in turn increases societal wealth
2) it decreases the burden on the rich--who tend to be society's most productive people anyways--which leads to faster economic growth
if we want to eliminate poverty sooner, we need to soak the poor!

The rich aren’t productive, their employees are. And poor people don’t need incentive, they need help. Besides, there’s no reason to start doing it that way, because we’ve been doing it that way for decades, and it hasn’t worked.

Right, right, because the only thing keeping me from being rich is motivation. And being six feet under is just a matter of my productivity. Of course, being more productive at another man’s factory makes HIM rich, not me.

If the rich are productive, why is there a worker shortage? We haven’t lost any rich people in this pandemic, have we? Not in enough numbers to matter. But if a bunch of those ‘unskilled’ workers stop flipping burgers, everyone is inconvenienced.
Great idea. Since April 15 is coming up, your tax rate (assuming you’re not ultra rich) is now 50%. If your 1040 won’t let you do that, feel free to list any excess money you have on the “Voluntary contribution to reduce the public debt” line.

Some wealthy consider those trickles as leaks. Those leaks are costing them. A cousin of mine is a plumber who has provided services to households of varying levels of income. He has had customers who were angry about the bill. These customers tended to be people who could well afford the bill.
On the other hand, lower income people tended to be grateful, even though the bill took a big chunk of their income.
First, the poor works their butts off and are still poor.
Second, you can’t squeeze blood from a stone.
Third, this is the equivalent of demanding a paraplegic to get up and walk.
Fourth, WHAT IN ALL THAT IS GOOD AND HOLY IS WRONG WITH YOU?!
Hey remember when Britain was divided between an upper crust that did not work a day in their lives while pretty much everyone else was so poor even children worked 12 hour shifts and came home to cabbage soup and squalor? Remember how many people fucked off to the “New World” because this and the attitude that their poverty was a personal moral failing rather than a ludicrously broken society was bullshit? Remember when America fought a war because the idea of those same twits continuing to call the shots made them sick? (Or at least, that’s what the robber barons sold the public on.) Or else if not voluntarily abandoning their homes for greener pastures got exiled to a penal colony and shockingly turned a land thought to be absolutely inhospitable to human life (you know, except the people already living there but when have they ever counted?) and surprisingly merely the absence of their “betters” reaping the fruits of their labours allowed the “unproductive drains on society” to build a country of their own?
… No. I guess you only remember that nice things are your birthright and everybody else needs to keep your birthright from slipping through your fingers, step one being they can’t have nice things because if they do it’s a nice thing you don’t have.
Confused?
So were we! You can find all of this, and more, on Fundies Say the Darndest Things!
