There is. Gay marriage had to go through all parlements in countries where this was approved.
This is political.
A lot of gay specific rights exist these days. This is political.
The LGBTQ movement is political demanding / pushing for and in a lot of cases getting special treatment and laws added or changed.
When people play games they do not want to be confronted by radical politics or any resemblence or representation of such.
They play games to escape this crazy world for just a moment.
People that oppose such inclusions in the game are just as much potential customers.
