When books were rare, they were taught to read using the bible because every family had one. It was the only way to do homework.

Andthere IS prayer in schools. Always has been. Just not led prayers. Not coerced prayers.

And there is prayer in school. Likely more earnestly with the overabundance of shootings, but even then, you can pray in school. No one is stopping anyone. But in public school, as a function of a government that can not establish a religion, can't mandate prayer to any religion. It also can't limit the free exercise thereof, and that includes not forcing people to pray if they don't want to.

I love how these idiots claim to adore both Jesus and the Constitution while gleefully going against everything both of them stand for.

You merely cannot force it on others. Is forcing others to adhere to your rituals an “important and sacred” part of your religion? You can pray all you want, assuming you’re a student at a given school but you are NOT fucking allowed to force your sick beliefs on others by “leading” others in prayer.

Unfortunately it actually is. You’re supposed to try to “spread the good news” to everyone. Most average Christians understand this is stupid and wrong and outdated but unfortunately the fundies believe they are supposed to do this. They come up with all sorts of wrong interpretations of the first amendment to convince themselves this is ok, like the idea that it only protects Christians or that it just means the government can’t force religion on anyone but they can. They believe their rights trump everyone else’s.

I wouldn’t trust government to deal with the religious outlook of my progeny.

Thanks for the verses. Those are considered important in the theology of the Jehovah's Witnesses, as well as not to always recite the same words. They do public prayers at meetings though and are otherwise known to proselytize a lot... Although ultrafundamentalist literalists, interestingly, they don't want forced prayers in schools, as it wouldn't be their own doctrines (but evil pagan Christiandom :)

And even if they get prayer back in school, the MINUTE they hear about people “disrespecting the Bible” or disrespecting their adolescent, creepy little missionaries, they’ll whine and bitch and complain.
