Teach her strict obedience. Other chapters stress the fact that obedience is the most necessary ingredient to be required from the child. This is especially true in the life of a girl, for she must be obedient all of her life. The boy who is obedient to his mother and father will someday become the head of the home; not so for the girl. Whereas the boy is being trained to be a leader, the girl is being trained to be a follower. Hence, obedience is far more important to her, for she must someday transfer it from her parents to her husband.
This means that she should never be allowed to argue at all. She should become submissive and obedient. She must obey immediately, without question, and without argument. The parents who require this have done a big favor for their future son-in-law.

How will someone trained to be constantly obedient not simply fall apart when such self-determination and responsibility is finally thrust upon him?
Yes, let's bring back female hysteria then christian doctors can start perscribing vibrators as cure-alls, again.
Gah, I just had a vision of what an el-cheapo NHS vibrator might look like! Hand cranked, with visible rivets...

Hey I saw a picture of one of those yesterday!

And Jack Hyles: Fuck off and die.
Well, I thought I had seen it all... To be quite honest (well, almost anyway...), I thought this kind of asshattery had died out sometimes during the dark ages.. Wow... Misogynia deluxe.
Yes, and when the future son-in-law (if there is one at all) realizes how boring his wife is, and cheats on her with a bolder, more assertive woman, it'll naturally be his wife's fault. Not the fault of the selfish, uncaring parents or the cesspit of stupidity and misogyny that is Jack Hyles, of course. How I wish the Amazons could come and wipe the floor with scum like you.
So basically you want them to be weak and spineless. Neither of which are admirable traits. Now intelligence, commitment, fidelity, opinionated, independent. Those are some qualities one should look for
Checking Century-Meter...
still checking...
holy shit, it's winding further back than I thought...
wait, it's slowing down...

Way to go, Jack!
Jack, Jack , Jack. You poor blind fool.
Obedience is not a necessity for childhood. It is a tool used to train children to be adults and to survive in the world.
This follower-leader dichotomy is both foolish and naive. You should have outgrown this when you became an adult.
Take a battlefield analogy: You can't just be a leader or a follower whether you are a general or a buck ass private when the bullets are flying.
You are a soldier. You lead, you follow, you interact with your teammates, you plan, you obey, you instruct, and you act all at the same time.
In a less frenzied and desperate fashion, you also do so in the modern world.
Why is this so difficult for you to understand? You've left your childhood behind. Grow up!
So, if there's a molester in the circle of family and friends, who tells her to do things and keep quiet about it...
Or a stranger who tells her to get into his car...
Nice one, Hyles. You moron.
Die in a fire. As a martial arts instructor, I teach ALL my kids to be leaders. We don't train followers, we train leaders. In fact, one of my top students is a girl.. and.. well, then there's ME. The Sensei.
@Tempus
Surely you know such ungodly allegations are nothing more than anti-Christian perseCUUUUUUUUshun!
@HeathenAngel
Do the world a big favor, and keep training those kids. The more children that are confident enough to stand up and think for themselves, the better it is.
@Tempus: Good find. Hope he rots in a cesspit somewhere.
@HeathenAngel: You, madame, rock.
I don't know how you women keep your tempers in check, having to put up with crap like this. This arsehole might be an extreme example, but lately the outright misogyny and blatant contempt for women coworkers I've encountered in my workplace among the "old boys' network" has utterly shocked and depressed me.
I always knew on some level that it was there just under the surface, but recently it's bubbled to the surface in a very ugly way and it's actually really shaken me.
And then try to explain, from this premise, the role of responsability, free will and sin, without falling into slippery slope.
This guy never heard of Mary, Mary Magdalaine or the nuns or any single woman. Or widows and divorcees, for that matter, who never remarry.
Congratulations for ruining your daughter's life. Your future inbred son-in-law may be getting the doormat wife of his dreams, but that still won't stop him from cheating on her with the more confident, self-assured barmaid. Sure his ego might be temporarily satisfied at times, but he's still going to get bored. And no, it won't be your daughter's fault, it'll be yours. (And his)
This means that she should never be allowed to argue at all.... ...She must obey immediately, without question, and without argument.
Bullshite. If I want to argue with someone I'll do it and there is nothing you and your sexist god can do about it.
If there is a hell, Jack Hyles is burning in it.
Didn't one of Jack's daughters, Linda I think, denounce him as a "cult leader?" I use quotes, because those are her words, not mine.
Oooh, so you're saying that girls should never stand up for themselves?
The Victorian era has just called...and they want their conservative backwardness back!
Anyway, that quote is completely sexist and if I'll ever be a mother and then be lucky enough to have a daughter, then I'm going to teach her to stand up for herself!
I'm pretty sure that Jack Hyles' daughters must've had cold, unloving parents who believe that women are sordid, vile creatures who should be punished for being women.
Also, I wonder if that would make Jack happy if the girls stopped standing up for themselves and let themselves be doormats instead?
I'd say it must be very boring, and possibly dangerous, to have an obedient "robot" at home. If she's never been allowed an independent thought, how the heck is she supposed to manage her children? And if all she says is "yes, dear", the husband must die of boredom just a few years into the marriage.
My husband trust my judgment, he asks my opinion, he take it for granted that I handle the finances. He would not like to have been the son-in-law of Mr Hyles here.
Confused?
