For a while, the Muslim world was well ahead of the Christian world in science. There is a reason why so many of our chemical and mathematical terms are from Arabic. But then the Muslim world sank into the sort of fundamentalist non-thought that so many people now want for America.
This rant was prompted by criticism of the Creation Museum in Kentucky. The fact that there is no science in the Creation Museum is the basis for the criticism but this is wasted on the OP."Thank God, for an America that was founded on a Judeo-Christian ethos."

Fundies support free-thought and inquiry? I didn't know that! So what's the whole deal with willful ignorance and attempting to change anything that disagrees with your religion, like history, for example?
My parents go to church twice a week and were pretty disgusted by the 'Creation Museum' due to the fact that they sidestep any and all scientific explanation in favor of ridiculous, convoluted explanations (like intelligent sorting and the like). I imagine they'll go under fairly soon unless the ridiculously high entrance fees help sustain that shit stain for a while.
Okay, first off, the schools in NYC are Arabic-language public schools, not religious schools of any sort. IIRC there are Hebrew-language public charter schools in some parts of the country as well, with some of the same controversy surrounding them.
Anyway, seems to me the Christian mentality is the one that created the line "there are things Man was not meant to know". Or am I mistaken in thinking that it was Jansenism that destroyed the potential of Blaise Pascal as a mathematician and scientist, or that it's the creationists who are pushing a view of science that wants us to shut down the search for information on our past and turn to a book?
